Book Morgan Harrington

Download or read book Morgan Harrington written by Gil Harrington and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In her hands, Gil Harrington held both the abomination of her daughter's gap-toothed skull, and the mother of her daughter's killer, blessing them both. The phone rang that bright October morning: "Hello, this is the Charlottesville Police Department calling. We've found your daughter's purse on the ground..." For exactly 100 nights, Gil Harrington and her family stumbled, agonized, and learned to function in the uncharted hell of the Missing. Twenty-year old beautiful college co-ed Morgan Harrington, chock-a-block full of potential and promise, had gone to a concert and vanished. This is the story of a devastated mother crawling out of blind grief to become America's most skilled huntress. With love, eloquence, and social media as her only weapons, Gil Harrington pursued her daughter's murderer for five years until he was unmasked as the marauding serial murderer, the Back to School Killer who had hidden in plain sight as a genial, lumbering Charlottesville, Virginia cabbie. Morgan's mother was so crucial in the pursuit of the Back-to-School Rapist and Killer, Jesse Matthew, that Crime Stoppers recognized Gil and her non-profit foundation, Help Save the Next Girl, in solving what prosecutors called "the Super Bowl of Crime Cases." But Gil Harrington, this mother of a murdered precious daughter, is something very different from an investigator. Hers is one of the rare, intimate voices needed in our world right now, when fear and hatred are rampant. Her voice marries the pragmatism of an incisive oncology nurse and the originality of an authentic, raw prose-poet to give the world the tool kit we all need to forge hope. Harrington's voice is joined by artist, Jane Lillian Vance, who attended Matthew's trials. Vance's essays witness Gil's grace, and the stunning alchemy of darkness into freedom." --

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MURDER at Morgan Park Book 4 Whodunnit Series Loueva Jennings, who looked intently at Albert Thomas, was more than just beautiful. Her white skin was tinted with the faintest pink colors. There was, in the sober depths of her blue-gray eyes, a glimmer which would have cautioned a man less satisfied with his own intellect and power of persuasion than the proprietor of Albert's Department Store. He wasn't looking at her face. His eyes were running up and down approvingly over her perfect figure, the exceptional poise she represented, and the shapeliness of the slender hands. ***** "You don't understand, Loueva," Albert said. His voice was soft and gentle and held the hint of a caress. "Did you not read my small pamphlet?" he asked. "I guess you thought a man in my position, owner of this store and all, would take an interest in writing poetry. Am I right?" He didn't give time for the young woman to answer. "Most of it was written before I took ownership of this store…." Again, Loueva's lips were trembling, and yet, Mister Albert mistook the symptoms she reflected. "I didn't wish to discuss your poetry book, Mister Albert," she said with her indignation rising. "But, since it was evidently given to me for a purpose, I will only say that only a pervert could have written something like that. There's no way I could read your poems…." An elderly woman strolling through Morgan Park the next morning walked over and looked down at a body that obviously had been dead for several hours. Under the wintry light which lit the snow-covered ground, the corpse was utterly still and more than slightly frozen. The deceased person had been dead for some time. From their clothing, the person was well-to-do. One look at the shiny black shoes, it was apparent this individual worked in the big city. The woman who found the body backed up and knew there should be no touching to preserve the evidence. The murder victim had a story to tell! A close look revealed a wound on the left side of the chest just above the heart. The extraordinary feature was that the murderer must not only have composed the body but laid upon the deceased body's chest a handful of Amarillas. The authorities were summoned immediately. The coroner's office removed the body. The first bit of information the detectives of the police department derived was that the murder was not committed in Morgan Park, but somewhere else. In an emotionally charged investigation full of unforeseen twists and turns, Billy Bob Thornton will need to follow an elaborate trail of evidence, secrets, and hidden schemata to help solve a murder mystery that has connections to Beijing, China.

Book The Mind of a Murderer

Download or read book The Mind of a Murderer written by Richard Taylor and published by Wildfire. This book was released on 2021-01-21 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'An intricate and brilliantly written psychiatric perspective on the most perplexing of crimes' Kerry Daynes, author of The Dark Side of the Mind 'Beautifully written and very dark' Nimco Ali OBE 'Whodunnit' doesn't matter so much, not to a forensic psychiatrist. We're more interested in the 'why'. In his twenty-six years in the field, Richard Taylor has worked on well over a hundred murder cases, with victims and perpetrators from all walks of life. In this fascinating memoir, Taylor draws on some of the most tragic, horrific and illuminating of these cases - as well as dark secrets from his own family's past - to explore some of the questions he grapples with every day: Why do people kill? Does committing a monstrous act make someone a monster? Could any of us, in the wrong circumstances, become a killer? As Taylor helps us understand what lies inside the minds of those charged with murder - both prisoners he has assessed and patients he has treated - he presents us with the most important challenge of all: how can we even begin to comprehend the darkest of human deeds, and why it is so vital that we try? The Mind of a Murderer is a fascinating exploration into the psyche of killers, as well as a unique insight into the life and mind of the doctor who treats them. For fans of Unnatural Causes, The Examined Life and All That Remains. MORE PRAISE FOR THE MIND OF A MURDERER: 'A fascinating insight into what drives criminality - and a punchy polemic against mental-health service cuts' Jake Kerridge, Sunday Telegraph 'A fascinating, well-written and compelling account of the mental state in homicide' Alisdair Williamson, TLS 'A dark, fascinating and often surprising glimpse into the minds of those who kill, from a forensic psychiatrist who's seen it all' Rob Williams, writer of BBC's The Victim 'An excellent, engaging and honest book, full of interesting, powerful and important observations' Alison Liebling, Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, University of Cambridge

Book The Journalist and the Murderer

Download or read book The Journalist and the Murderer written by Janet Malcolm and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2011-06-22 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A seminal work and examination of the psychopathology of journalism. Using a strange and unprecedented lawsuit by a convicted murder againt the journalist who wrote a book about his crime, Malcolm delves into the always uneasy, sometimes tragic relationship that exists between journalist and subject. Featuring the real-life lawsuit of Jeffrey MacDonald, a convicted murderer, against Joe McGinniss, the author of Fatal Vision. In Malcolm's view, neither journalist nor subject can avoid the moral impasse that is built into the journalistic situation. When the text first appeared, as a two-part article in The New Yorker, its thesis seemed so radical and its irony so pitiless that journalists across the country reacted as if stung. Her book is a work of journalism as well as an essay on journalism: it at once exemplifies and dissects its subject. In her interviews with the leading and subsidiary characters in the MacDonald-McGinniss case -- the principals, their lawyers, the members of the jury, and the various persons who testified as expert witnesses at the trial -- Malcolm is always aware of herself as a player in a game that, as she points out, she cannot lose. The journalist-subject encounter has always troubled journalists, but never before has it been looked at so unflinchingly and so ruefully. Hovering over the narrative -- and always on the edge of the reader's consciousness -- is the MacDonald murder case itself, which imparts to the book an atmosphere of anxiety and uncanniness. The Journalist and the Murderer derives from and reflects many of the dominant intellectual concerns of our time, and it will have a particular appeal for those who cherish the odd, the off-center, and the unsolved.

In the body of our narrative we have spoken of the effort made to bring the Morgan aoductors to punishment, as an " abortive attempt." We cannot better justify the use of that language, than by giving in full the report which follows: -- REPORT, &c. The President of the Convention (Mr. John C. Spencer), from the committee appointed on that subject, remarked, that the convention had done him the honor, by a special resolution, to place him at the head of the committee, probably from the circumstance that his official connection with the prosecutions in question had given him ample opportunity to become acquainted with the proceedings, respecting which the convention had desired information; and that a report had accordingly been prepared, which would now be submitted: -- "A history of the judicial proceedings had in the State of New York, to discover and punish the offenders concerned in the kidnapping and murder of William Morgan, seems at this time to be required, in order to preserve, in an authentic shape, facts of the utmost importance in the history of our country; and to present in the most simple form that series of evidence which establishes the agency and combination of members of the masonic fraternity in impeding inquiry, baffling investigation, and defeating the ordinary administration of justice. It is a melancholy picture of folly and crime; but the sooner and the more extensively it is known, the speedier and more effectual will be the remedy which the intelligence and public spiril of a free people will apply. Those events are rapidly receding from our minds, and giving place to others of greater novelty, but of inferior importance; and of those which remain, many become confused and indis-tinctin our memories. Book excerpt: Why? Two unforgettable names, Adam Walsh and Jeffrey Dahmer, one tragic case: The author's goal is justice for little Adam Walsh. A wall of evidence points to America's most notorious serial killer and pedophile Jeffrey Dahmer murdering and decapitating Adam. Accordingly, the author wants the Hollywood Police Department (HPD) to reopen the case and close it correctly. This will finally bring proper closure for the Walsh family, which includes Adam's father, John, who channeled his rage by becoming the crime-fighting host of the popular TV show America's Most Wanted. Who? The author describes how he encountered Dahmer at length near the time and place little Adam was abducted. This book has consumed well over three decades of the author's life, with at least one decade investigating and writing this book. He has appeared on many TV shows and in numerous print publications as a witness. In 2010 he filed a lawsuit against the HPD, State Attorney's Office, and one of the detectives involved in the Adam Walsh case. What? As much as this book is a case for Dahmer being Adam's murderer, it is equally a study of how the HPD conducted the homicide investigation, becoming the greatest ally and defender of America's most notorious serial killer. I have a problem with facts that don't fit, with witnesses not called or used, with bungled investigations, and with cover-ups after the fact, the author writes. The author presents many, many witnesses who know they saw Dahmer. Packed with charts, diagrams, photos, and letters, this is the most extensive collection of records to date of the Adam Walsh case.
