Conditioned to strive for goodness, Sisi struggles between her natural wicked inclinations and the unnatural expectations placed upon her. One chance encounter with an unusual man, and all her inhibitions are thrown out the window. Two unlikely people tangled together in the waltz of death; they are one step away from falling off the precipice. And each choice they make brings them closer to the edge. But in the end, only they can decide - to stop or to jump? BLOOD LOST. BLOOD SPILLED. BLOOD WON. For blood is the beginning, and blood is the end.

Book Dangerous Speech

    Book Details:
  • Author : Javier Villa-Flores
  • Publisher : University of Arizona Press
  • Release : 2006-11-15
  • ISBN : 9780816525560

Download or read book Dangerous Speech written by Javier Villa-Flores and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dangerous Speech is the first systematic treatment of blasphemous speech in colonial Mexico. This engaging social history examines the representation of blasphemy as a sin and a crime, and its repression by the Spanish Inquisition. The Spanish colonists viewed blasphemy not only as an insult against God but also as a dangerous misrepresentation of the deity, which could call down his wrath in a ruinous assault on the imperial enterprise. Why then, asks Villa-Flores, did Spaniards dare to blaspheme? Having mined the period’s moral literature—philosophical works as well as royal decrees and Inquisition treatises and trial records in Spanish, Mexican, and U.S. archives and research libraries—Villa-Flores deftly interweaves images of daily life in colonial Mexico with vivid descriptions of human interactions to illustrate the complexity of a culture profoundly influenced by the Catholic Church. In entertaining and sometimes horrifying vignettes, the reader comes face to face with individuals who used language to assert or manipulate their identities within that repressive society. Villa-Flores offers an innovative interpretation of the social uses of blasphemous speech by focusing on specific groups—conquistadors, Spanish settlers, Spanish women, and slaves of both genders—as a lens to examine race, class, and gender relations in colonial Mexico. He finds that multiple motivations led people to resort to blasphemy through a gamut of practices ranging from catharsis and gender self-fashioning to religious rejection and active resistance. Dangerous Speech is a valuable resource for students and scholars of colonialism, the social history of language, Mexican history, and the changing relations of gender, class, and ethnicity in colonial Latin America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the end of the nineteenth century, a mode of painting captured instantaneity had come to be seen as an appropriate and characteristically Impressionist means of depictin its subject, when that subject was understood to be our variable perception in nature. In May of 1895, however, capriciously it seemed to some, to the facade of a Gothic cathedral. Struck by the curious choice a medieval monument as subject matter, critics, used to about instantaneity, continued to lay emphasis on a theme of temporality, and this was addressed in two but related ways. First, there was the matter of perception - the temporality that is involved in engaging visually with near impenetrable surfaces of individual canvases...

Book The Future of Blasphemy

Download or read book The Future of Blasphemy written by Austin Dacey and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-26 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the days of Moses, blasphemy was the mortal offence of failing to respect the divine. In an age of human rights, blasphemy is understood as a failure to respect persons, as insult, defamation, or "advocacy of religious hatred." The criminalisation of this personal blasphemy has been advanced at the United Nations and upheld by the European Court of Human Rights, which has asserted a universal "right to respect for religious feelings." The Future of Blasphemy turns respect on its head. Respect demands that we grant each other equal standing in the moral community, not that we never offend. Politically, respect for citizens requires a public discourse that is open to all viewpoints. Going beyond the question of free speech versus religion, The Future of Blasphemy defends an ethical model of blasphemy. Controversies surrounding sacrilege are contests over what counts as sacred, disagreements about what has central, inviolable, and incommensurable value. In such public contestation of the sacred, each of us-secular and religious alike-has equal right to speak on its behalf.

Book Moral Theology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Charles J. Callan
  • Publisher : DigiCat
  • Release : 2022-05-29
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 1440 pages

Download or read book Moral Theology written by Charles J. Callan and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2022-05-29 with total page 1440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles J. Callan's 'Moral Theology' stands as a magisterial work that delves deeply into the ethical foundations and implications of Catholic doctrine as synthesized by the Angelic Doctor, St. Thomas Aquinas. With an incisive and systematic approach, Callan elucidates the Thomistic principles that underpin moral action, providing a meticulous explication that weaves together Aquinas's rich legacy with biblical teachings. The book aligns itself squarely within the neo-scholastic movement, offering a literary style that is both rigorous in scholastic methodology and accessible to those seeking a profound understanding of Catholic moral reasoning. We find within its pages a framework that not only sheds light on moral conundrums but also remains relevant in contemporary discourse. Reverend Charles Jerome Callan, a man of profound theological insight and academic prowess, composed this comprehensive treatise to invite both clergy and laypersons into the depths of Catholic moral understanding. His scholarly background, particularly his expertise in Scripture and Thomistic thought, provided a fertile ground for this endeavor, as Callan sought to articulate and promote an orthodox yet dynamic vision of moral theology shaped by Aquinas's intellectual heritage. His purpose was not only to educate but also to inspire a lived moral experience aligned with the Catholic faith. 'Moral Theology' is thus an essential text for theologians, philosophers, and any student of Catholic moral teaching. It serves as a vital reference that compels the reader towards a deeper engagement with ethical questions, viewed through the lens of Aquinas's timeless wisdom. Scholars and practitioners of theology will find in Callan's work both a bridge to the medieval mind and a guide to applying enduring principles in a modern world. This book is especially recommended for those seeking an intellectually authentic and spiritually enriching exploration of Catholic morality.
