Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: « Learning French by myself » workbook collectionWorkbook 3a : Dictation, conjugation, grammar and sentence analysis This workbook, 3a, is an educational workbook that has been created to accompany a child's experience in learning French. Series 3 (a, b, c) follow the first of the French language teaching tools « Workbook 1, phonetics with pictures » and the worbooks 2 (a, b, c ). This workbook (3a), along with the next two workbooks in this series (3b, 3c), will cover all of the 62 phonetic sounds necessary to learn French. For the teacher, remember it will be necessary to obtain the "Workbook 3, corrections" to be able to exactly say each of the words and phrases. This workbook utilizes the same 62 phonetic sounds as Workbooks 1 and 2. For each phonetic, there will be a sentence for the teacher to say and child to write, a verb to conjugate and a sentence analysis. These materials are presented to the child progressively, such that the phonetics that were grasped in the previous level are re-utilized at that level. Together, the complete series (Workbooks 1, 2, 3) will allow the child of 7 years old and beyond to learn the basics of the French langua≥ the vocabulary of reading, writing, and spelling; and associated grammar and verb conjugation. We hope that these workbooks respect the needs of both right and left handers. We believe that both would benefit the most by using teaching tools that most closely match their needs. This complete collection is inspired by the Montessori philosophy and the Orton Gillingham method, the two most used methods in language learning programs in Europe and in the United States. This program was created by a team of teachers, speech therapists and Montessori educators. The workbooks have been tested by children in several schools, and settings (including homeschooling); and with speech-language therapists. These workbooks also conform with the standards of the National French Educational Programs. We sincerely believe that you will find satisfaction and enjoyment with our educational materials. Download or read book The Number Sense written by Stanislas Dehaene and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2011-04-29 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Our understanding of how the human brain performs mathematical calculations is far from complete. In The Number Sense, Stanislas Dehaene offers readers an enlightening exploration of the mathematical mind. Using research showing that human infants have a rudimentary number sense, Dehaene suggests that this sense is as basic as our perception of color, and that it is wired into the brain. But how then did we leap from this basic number ability to trigonometry, calculus, and beyond? Dehaene shows that it was the invention of symbolic systems of numerals that started us on the climb to higher mathematics. Tracing the history of numbers, we learn that in early times, people indicated numbers by pointing to part of their bodies, and how Roman numerals were replaced by modern numbers. On the way, we also discover many fascinating facts: for example, because Chinese names for numbers are short, Chinese people can remember up to nine or ten digits at a time, while English-speaking people can only remember seven. A fascinating look at the crossroads where numbers and neurons intersect, The Number Sense offers an intriguing tour of how the structure of the brain shapes our mathematical abilities, and how math can open up a window on the human mind"--Provided by publisher.

Book Values Education and Quality Teaching

Download or read book Values Education and Quality Teaching written by Terence Lovat and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-07 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some revision of public schooling history is necessary to challenge the dominant mythology that public schools were established on the grounds of values-neutrality. In fact, those responsible for the foundations of public education in Australia were sufficiently pragmatic to know that its success relied on its charter being in accord with public sentiment. Part of the pragmatism was in convincing those whose main experience of education had been through some form of church-based education that state-based education was capable of meeting the same ends. Hence, the documents of the 1870s and 1880s that contained the charters of the various state and territory systems witness to a breadth of vision about the scope of education. Beyond the standard goals of literacy and numeracy, education was said to be capable of assuring personal morality for each individual and a suitable citizenry for the soon-to-be new nation. As an instance, the NSW Public Instr- tion Act of 1880 (cf. NSW, 1912), under the rubric of “religious teaching”, stressed the need for students to be inculcated into the values of their society, including understanding the role that religious values had played in forming that society’s legal codes and social ethics. The notion, therefore, that public education is part of a deep and ancient heritage around values neutrality is mistaken and in need of se- ous revision. The evidence suggests that public education’s initial conception was of being the complete educator, not only of young people’s minds but of their inner character as well.

Book Tools and Mathematics

Download or read book Tools and Mathematics written by John Monaghan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-18 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an exploration of tools and mathematics and issues in mathematics education related to tool use. The book has five parts. The first part reflects on doing a mathematical task with different tools, followed by a mathematician's account of tool use in his work. The second considers prehistory and history: tools in the development from ape to human; tools and mathematics in the ancient world; tools for calculating; and tools in mathematics instruction. The third part opens with a broad review of technology and intellectual trends, circa 1970, and continues with three case studies of approaches in mathematics education and the place of tools in these approaches. The fourth part considers issues related to mathematics instructions: curriculum, assessment and policy; the calculator debate; mathematics in the real world; and teachers' use of technology. The final part looks to the future: task and tool design and new forms of activity via connectivity and computer games.
