Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With this book we try to reach several more-or-less unattainable goals namely: To compromise in a single book all the most important achievements of Monte Carlo calculations for solving neutron and photon transport problems. To present a book which discusses the same topics in the three levels known from the literature and gives us useful information for both beginners and experienced readers. It lists both well-established old techniques and also newest findings.

This book was released on 2006-04-18 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The editors have pleasure in presenting this volume of our review series. We have specialised in three areas: perturbation Monte Carlo, non-linear kinetics and the transfer of radioactive fluids in rocks. These contributions are linked, however, in the demands for optimising complex systems that are a feature of the scale of nuclear power production. Kuniharu Kishida’s account of Japanese thinking in the application of modern non-linear theory to reactor kinetics and control comes at a time when the community of control scholars is seeking how to apply the new ideas that have led to the prominence of chaos theory to our field. Pr- lems of maintenance in power reactors are as severe as ever and must be solved for credibility to characterise any new program. As much as 30% of unanticipated down-time, for example, is due to the failure of motor op- ated valves. We need a theory to provide for preventive maintenance. This in turn depends heavily on on-line monitoring to anticipate failure as well as expert systems to schedule preventive treatment. Noise theory with its promise of on-line interpretation of information from inchoate breakdown is the key. It is all too likely that the need to deal with major departures makes a non-linear theory of noise essential. We can be grateful that P- fessor Kishida has provided us with such a consistent account.
Download or read book Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology written by Ernest J. Henley and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology, Volume 9 provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of nuclear science and technology. This book discusses the safe and beneficial development of land-based nuclear power plants. Organized into five chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the possible consequences of a large-scale release of radioactivity from a nuclear reactor in the event of a serious accident. This text then discusses the extension of conventional perturbation techniques to multidimensional systems and to high-order approximations of the Boltzmann equation. Other chapters consider details of probability treatment of the conventionally assumed loss-of-pressure accident to a modern gas-cooled reactor. This book discusses as well details of reliability analysis of a typical electromechanical protective system. The final chapter deals with the computer applications and the need for standardization as both computing and nuclear energy shifted from research and development to industry status. This book is a valuable resource for reactor physicists, engineers, scientists, and research workers.

Download or read book Modern Simulation and Modeling written by Reuven Y. Rubinstein and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1998-03-09 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A step-by-step guide for today's modeling and simulation practices This new guide for modeling and simulation of discrete-event systems (DES) demonstrates why simulation is fast becoming the method of choice for the evaluation of system performance in science, engineering, and management. The book begins with the basics of conventional simulation, then proceeds to modern simulation-treating sensitivity analysis and optimization in a wide range of systems that exhibit complex interaction of discrete events. These include communications networks, flexible manufacturing systems, PERT (project evaluation and review techniques) networks, queueing systems, and more. Less focused on theory than on presenting a clear approach to practical applications, Modern Simulation and Modeling: * Emphasizes concepts rather than mathematical completeness * Integrates references and explanations of complex topics into the body of the text * Provides an innovative chapter on rare-event probability estimation * Describes the implementation of the score function (SF) method using the NSO simulation package * Features 40 illustrations and numerous algorithms * Offers extensive, end-of-chapter exercise sets * Includes chapter bibliographies for further reading Modern Simulation and Modeling is an essential text for graduate students of DES and stochastic processes and for undergraduate students in simulation. It is also an excellent reference for professionals in statistics and probability, mathematics, and management science.
