She’s tired of the limelight, meaningless relationships and long hours behind the wheel. When her father calls her and her sister home, she’s ready. She slips right back into the family business, finishing off the custom car projects her father has lined up. But racing is in her blood and she’s lured back to risking her life on the hot rod drag strips outside of town. It’s there she meets paramedic and volunteer firefighter, Reece Balmain, who has her re-thinking the road her life is taking. Reece Balmain arrives in Big Fork a broken man. He’s lived and breathed through horror accidents, haunted by the faces of the people he’s cut from vehicles. He knows one thing–speed kills. He’s hoping not to see too much of it in small town Montana, until he hears about the drag races taking place outside of town. He knows Trinity Calhoun. He’s watched her race, seen her win, held his breath when her car somersaulted into barriers in Daytona Beach. He doesn’t like what she does, but he can’t stay away from the woman who’s claiming his heart. Previously titled Fast Lane

Book MY FAMILY S IRISH AND SPANISH PIONEERS OF CUSTER COUNTY MONTANA AND LEAVENWORTH COUNTY KANSAS AND THEIR DESCENDANTS

Download or read book MY FAMILY S IRISH AND SPANISH PIONEERS OF CUSTER COUNTY MONTANA AND LEAVENWORTH COUNTY KANSAS AND THEIR DESCENDANTS written by Richard S. Baskas, EdDc and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-02-12 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: was 30 May 1854 and President Franklin Pierce had signed the Kansas-Nebraska bill opening the Kansas Territory for settlement. Most of Kansas’ growth started with the passing and enactment of the Homestead Law, which was passed in 1862 and became effective on 1 January 1863. This bill allowed people in Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves whether or not to allow slavery within their borders. The act served to repeal the Missouri Compromise of 1820 which prohibited slavery north of latitude 36 degrees and 30 minutes. The Act infuriated many in the North who considered the Compromise to be a long-standing binding agreement. After the Act was passed, pro-slavery supporters rushed in to settle Kansas to affect the outcome of the first election held there after the law went into effect. Pro-slavery settlers carried the election but were charged with fraud by anti-slavery, and the results were not accepted by them. The anti-slavery settlers held another election; however pro-slavery settlers refused to vote. This resulted in the establishment of two opposing legislatures within the Kansas territory. Violence soon erupted, with the anti-slavery forced led by John Brown. The territory became “Bleeding Kansas” as the death toll rose. President Pierce, in support of the pro-slavery settlers, sent in Federal troops to stop the violence and disperse the anti-legislature. Another election was called.

But his penchant for fast cars and Harleys makes it difficult for the town to forget the accident that killed his youngest brother, Mitch. It’s hard for him to forget when the girl responsible for him losing his head is back in town, hotter than ever, swinging spanners at his father’s garage, Calhoun Customs. When Paige Drew loses her job at the track, she takes it as a sign to come home to Bigfork and make peace with the past before she takes the next step in her life. She’s been on Trinity Calhoun’s pit crew ever since that fatal night that changed her life forever. She’s hidden behind the scenes at the racetrack for too long, ignored by her family for causing a scandal in their otherwise perfect lives. But coming home means confronting Mason Calhoun, the reason she ran in the first place.

Book Tweenhood

  • Author : Melanie Kennedy
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2018-10-30
  • ISBN : 1788316630
  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book Tweenhood written by Melanie Kennedy and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A powerful female, pre-adolescent, consumer demographic has emerged in tandem with girls becoming more visible in popular culture since the 1990s. Yet the cultural anxiety that this has caused has received scant academic attention. In Tweenhood, Melanie Kennedy rectifies this and examines mainstream, pre-adolescent girls' films, television programmes and celebrities from 2004 onwards, including A Cinderella Story (2004), Hannah Montana (2006) and Camp Rock (2008). Her book forges a dialogue between post-feminism, film and television, celebrity and most importantly; the figure of the tween. Kennedy examines how these media texts, which are so key to tween culture, address and construct their target audience by helping them to 'choose' an appropriately feminine identity. Tweenhood then, she argues, is transient and a discursive construct whose unpacking highlights the deification of celebrity and femininity within its culture.
