Book Monotone Comparative Statics of Characteristic Demand

Download or read book Monotone Comparative Statics of Characteristic Demand written by Koji Shirai and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study deals with comparative statics of the consumer's demand. According to Lancaster [1966, Journal of Political Economy], a utility function should be defined on the set of all characteristics that affect well-being of the consumer and these characteristics should be derived by consuming commodities. We show the sufficient condition for monotone comparative statistics of the demand for characteristics and investigate the properties of the demand for commodities by considering the relationship between characteristics and commodities. We do not restrict the domain of a utility function and price systems, that is, the set of characteristics, to the Euclidean space. In particular, we allow discrete choice and nonlinear price systems. This theory enables us to predict the properties of the demand for the commodities that are not present in the market, such as new commodities. Our sufficient condition on a direct utility function can be characterized by the properties of the welfare variations for the change in the level of characteristics, which are more transparent and easier to verify. Further, the results of this study are derived by employing a new mathematical technique, which can be regarded as the generalization of the lattice theoretical comparative statics.

Book Industrial Organization

Download or read book Industrial Organization written by Paul Belleflamme and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-01-07 with total page 725 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial Organization: Markets and Strategies provides an up-to-date account of modern industrial organization that blends theory with real-world applications. Written in a clear and accessible style, it acquaints the reader with the most important models for understanding strategies chosen by firms with market power and shows how such firms adapt to different market environments. It covers a wide range of topics including recent developments on product bundling, branding strategies, restrictions in vertical supply relationships, intellectual property protection, and two-sided markets, to name just a few. Models are presented in detail and the main results are summarized as lessons. Formal theory is complemented throughout by real-world cases that show students how it applies to actual organizational settings. The book is accompanied by a website containing a number of additional resources for lecturers and students, including exercises, answers to review questions, case material and slides.

Book Monotone Comparative Statics in General Equilibrium

Download or read book Monotone Comparative Statics in General Equilibrium written by Francesco Ruscitti and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under certain conditions on the excess demand function, it is shown that the set of equilibrium prices coincides with the set of maximizers of a potential function. Therefore, monotone comparative statics techniques can be employed to study how equilibrium prices change when there are shocks to the parameters of the model. As a by-product of our analysis, it turns out that the set of equilibrium prices is a convex lattice.

Book Computational Aspects of General Equilibrium Theory

Download or read book Computational Aspects of General Equilibrium Theory written by Donald Brown and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-01-08 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents a general equilibrium methodology for microeconomic policy analysis. It is intended to serve as an alternative to the now classical, axiomatic general equilibrium theory as exposited in Debreu`s Theory of Value (1959) or Arrow and Hahn`s General Competitive Analysis (1971). The monograph consists of several essays written over the last decade. It also contains an appendix by Charles Steinhorn on the elements of O-minimal structures.

Book A Theory of Games with General Complementarities

Download or read book A Theory of Games with General Complementarities written by Filippo L. Calciano and published by Presses univ. de Louvain. This book was released on 2010-09 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the current theory of games, the formal notion of complementarity that is employed is unsatisfactory because it bears too few connections with our intuitive idea of complementarity. This is the starting point of the present work.

Book Supermodularity and Complementarity

Download or read book Supermodularity and Complementarity written by Donald M. Topkis and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-02-11 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The economics literature is replete with examples of monotone comparative statics; that is, scenarios where optimal decisions or equilibria in a parameterized collection of models vary monotonically with the parameter. Most of these examples are manifestations of complementarity, with a common explicit or implicit theoretical basis in properties of a super-modular function on a lattice. Supermodular functions yield a characterization for complementarity and extend the notion of complementarity to a general setting that is a natural mathematical context for studying complementarity and monotone comparative statics. Concepts and results related to supermodularity and monotone comparative statics constitute a new and important formal step in the long line of economics literature on complementarity. This monograph links complementarity to powerful concepts and results involving supermodular functions on lattices and focuses on analyses and issues related to monotone comparative statics. Don Topkis, who is known for his seminal contributions to this area, here presents a self-contained and up-to-date view of this field, including many new results, to scholars interested in economic theory and its applications as well as to those in related disciplines. The emphasis is on methodology. The book systematically develops a comprehensive, integrated theory pertaining to supermodularity, complementarity, and monotone comparative statics. It then applies that theory in the analysis of many diverse economic models formulated as decision problems, noncooperative games, and cooperative games.

Download or read book New Trends in Emerging Complex Real Life Problems written by Patrizia Daniele and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-30 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers the contributions of the international conference “Optimization and Decision Science” (ODS2018), which was held at the Hotel Villa Diodoro, Taormina (Messina), Italy on September 10 to 13, 2018, and was organized by AIRO, the Italian Operations Research Society, in cooperation with the DMI (Department of Mathematics and Computer Science) of the University of Catania (Italy). The book offers state-of-the-art content on optimization, decisions science and problem solving methods, as well as their application in industrial and territorial systems. It highlights a range of real-world problems that are both challenging and worthwhile, using models and methods based on continuous and discrete optimization, network optimization, simulation and system dynamics, heuristics, metaheuristics, artificial intelligence, analytics, and multiple-criteria decision making. Given its scope of coverage, it will benefit not only researchers and practitioners working in these areas, but also the operations research community as a whole.
