Book Optical Spectroscopy of Inorganic Solids

Download or read book Optical Spectroscopy of Inorganic Solids written by B. Henderson and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text describes the technique of optical spectroscopy applied to problems in condensed matter physics. It relates theoretical understanding to experimental measurement, including discussion of the optical spectroscopy of inorganic insulators, with many illustrative examples. Symmetry arguments are developed from a formal group theoretical basis and are frequently used, and a special effort is made to treat the subject of lattice vibrations and to show how these can affect the spectroscopic properties of solids. The elements of laser theory are developed, and the authors also explore the use of optically detected magnetic resonance techniques for the investigation of semiconducting materials.

Book The Chemical Bond in Inorganic Chemistry

Download or read book The Chemical Bond in Inorganic Chemistry written by Ian David Brown and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the bond valence model, a description of acid-base bonding which is becoming increasingly popular particularly in fields such as materials science and mineralogy where solid state inorganic chemistry is important. Recent improvements in crystal structure determination have allowed the model to become more quantitative. Unlike other models of inorganic chemical bonding, the bond valence model is simple, intuitive, and predictive, and can be used for analysing crystal structures and the conceptual modelling of local as well as extended structures. This is the first book to explore in depth the theoretical basis of the model and to show how it can be applied to synthetic and solution chemistry. It emphasizes the separate roles of the constraints of chemistry and of three-dimensional space by analysing the chemistry of solids. Many applications of the model in physics, materials science, chemistry, mineralogy, soil science, surface science, and molecular biology are reviewed. The final chapter describes how the bond valence model relates to and represents a simplification of other models of inorganic chemical bonding.

Book Structure and Properties of Inorganic Solids

Download or read book Structure and Properties of Inorganic Solids written by Francis S. Galasso and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structure and Properties of Inorganic Solids, Volume 7 is a reference book that describes the structure of metals, intermetallics, halides, hydrides, carbides, borides, and other inorganic phases as well as some of their properties. Among the inorganic solids discussed are CsCl, NaCl, ZnS, NiAs, perovskite, spinel, corundum, beta tungsten, and graphite. This volume is comprised of 12 chapters and opens with an overview of crystallography and material properties, followed by a discussion on the structural relationships of elemental solids. The reader is then introduced to the ZnS, NiAs, CsCl, NaCl, graphite, perovskite, spinel, corundum, and beta tungsten type structures. The final chapter offers a brief summary of the structure of various types of inorganic compounds covered in the text. This book is written to meet the needs of teachers of advanced undergraduate and graduate courses and of researchers in the various disciplines that make up the field of materials sciences. It will also be of interest to those with diverse backgrounds such as engineering, chemistry, metallurgy, physics, ceramics, and mineralogy.

Book Index to Reviews Symposia Volumes and Monographs in Organic Chemistry

Download or read book Index to Reviews Symposia Volumes and Monographs in Organic Chemistry written by Norman Kharasch and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Index to Reviews, Symposia Volumes and Monographs in Organic Chemistry For the Period 1961-1962 aims to help research workers, teachers, and students to locate quickly those current reviews in which they may be interested. The format used in the 1940-1960 Index has been retained. While the 1961-1962 issue stands on its own, it will be most useful in conjunction with the 1940-1960 volume. Complete author and subject indexes are included, with adequate cross-indexing in the latter. While the majority of articles listed is directly on organic chemistry, there are many which border on biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, bacteriology, technological developments, etc. The volume is organized into three parts. Part I contains reviews in journals and periodic publications. Part II presents reviews in symposia, collective volumes, and non-periodical publications. Part III lists monographs on organic chemistry, 1961-1962. Included this volume are a number of articles which deal specifically with hazards in the use of various chemicals, such as perchlorates, peroxides, solvents, insecticides, etc. A selection of articles from the Journal of Chemical Education is provided as well as articles in the International Edition of Angewandte Chemie, published in English.
