The Monkey Soldiers, a concoction of men, monkeys, and wartime mayhem. Lieutenant Thurgood has a way with monkeys in Vietnam. His sexy wife has a way with GI's on R&R from Vietnam. Lieutenant Thurgood can make monkeys act like soldiers. His wife can make soldiers act like monkeys. Congo Connie and Bonobo Bob make soldiers spend all their money watching them perform their porno act at the FTA Club, the biggest poontang palace in Bangkok, Thailand. The FTA Club is owned by Murphy and Lu Lee O'Shannahan, the drug running couple who flies tons of Opium out of the Golden Triangle. Preston Bridges entertains soldiers at the Club by playing Delta Blues and selling LSD tabs. Then there is Mr. Grady, the cute little Capuchin monkey who steals the neighbor's sex toys and does lewd things with kittens. Last, there is Cheyenne Livingston, the naïve school teacher, her adopted Thai daughter Amy, and Amy's mute twin brother who dresses in a Monk's robe and sleeps in a closet. There is monkey business a plenty when the three wise monkeys decide it's okay to see, hear and speak whatever they please.

Book Monkey King Journey to the West

Download or read book Monkey King Journey to the West written by Wu Ch'eng-en and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2021-02-11 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the world's greatest fantasy novels and a rollicking classic of Chinese literature, in a sparkling new translation and published in a Clothbound Classics edition. A shape-shifting trickster on a kung-fu quest for eternal life, Monkey King is one of the most memorable superheroes in world literature. High-spirited and omni-talented, he can transform himself into whatever he chooses and turn each of his body's 84,000 hairs into an army of clones. But his penchant for mischief repeatedly gets him into trouble, and when he raids Heaven's Orchard of Immortal Peaches, the Buddha pins him beneath a mountain. Five hundred years later, Monkey King is finally given a chance to redeem himself: he must protect the pious monk Tripitaka on his journey in search of precious Buddhist sutras that will bring enlightenment to the Chinese empire. Joined by two other fallen immortals - Pigsy, a rice-loving flying pig, and Sandy, a depressive river-sand monster - Monkey King does battle with Red Boy, Princess Jade-Face, the Monstress Dowager, and all manner of dragons, ogres, wizards and femmes fatales; navigates the perils of Fire-Cloud Cave, the River of Flowing Sand and the Water-Crystal Palace; and is serially captured, lacquered, sautéed, steamed and liquefied - but always hatches an ingenious plan to get himself and his fellow pilgrims out of their latest jam. Comparable to The Canterbury Tales or Don Quixote, Monkey King is at once a gripping adventure, a comic satire and a spring of spiritual insight. With this new translation by the award-winning Julia Lovell, the irrepressible rogue hero of one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature has the potential to vault, with his signature cloud-somersault, into the hearts of a whole new generation of readers.

It adapts the Hindu ideas to Buddhist themes and shows the balance of good and evil in the world. Like the Ramayana, it is a philosophical allegory, exploring the ideals of justice and fidelity as embodied by the protagonists, Prince Rama and Queen Sita. The epic is well known among the Khmer people for its portrayal in Khmer dance theatre, called the L'khaon, in various festivals across Cambodia. Scenes from the Reamker are painted on the walls of the Royal Palace in Khmer style, and its predecessor is carved into the walls of the Angkor Wat and Banteay Srei temples. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifth and most popular book of the Ramayana of Valmiki, the Sundarakanda, recounts the adventures of the monkey hero Hanuman in leaping across the ocean to the island citadel of Lanka. Once there, he scours the city for the abducted Princess Siti. The poet vividly describes the opulence of the court of the demon king, Ravana, the beauty of his harem, and the hideous deformity of Sita's wardresses. After witnessing Sita's stern rejection of Ravana's blandishments, Hanuman reveals himself to the princess and restores her hope of rescue. The great monkey then wreaks havoc on the royal park and fights a series of hair-raising battles with Ravana's generals. Permitting himself to be captured by the warrior Indrajit, Hanuman is led into the presence of Ravana, whom he admonishes for his lechery. His tail is set ablaze, but he escapes his bonds and leaping from rooftop to rooftop, sets fire to the city. Taking leave of Sita, Hanuman once more leaps the ocean to rejoin his monkey companions. This is the fifth volume translated from the critical edition of the Valmiki Ramayana. It contains an extensive introduction, exhaustive notes, and a comprehensive bibliography.
