Mount Wutai explores how Qing Buddhist rulers and clerics from Inner Asia, including Manchus, Tibetans, and Mongols, reimagined the mountain as their own during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Wen-Shing Chou examines a wealth of original source materials in multiple languages and media--many never before published or translated—such as temple replicas, pilgrimage guides, hagiographic representations, and panoramic maps. Es werden moglichst detallierte Beschreibungen geben, damit die liturgischen Sequenzen durchsichtig werden. Nicht selten werden interessante oder singulare Texte in toto ausgeschrieben. Wie in den schon vorliegenden Banden werden keine Emendationen vorgenommen, noch Sics erteilt. Zur Erhohung der Anschaulichkeit sind dem Band wieder eine Reihe von Fototafeln beigefugt, die wichtige Kolophone und signifikante illuminierte Seiten zeigen. "Der Katalog ist, auch das darf in einem solchen Fall erwahnt werden, in guter Druckqualitat auf hochwertigem Papier gedruckt. [...] (es) findet sich alles, was das wissenschaftliche Herz begehren mag, in den ausserst sorgfaltig gearbeiteten umfangreichen Indices.
