Book Money Investment and Consumption

Download or read book Money Investment and Consumption written by O. F. Hamouda and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Hamouda s book is very timely and thought provoking and should be an eye opener for students of economics who were brought up in the anti-Keynesian last decades of the twentieth century, or were taught the garbled rather than updated revived Keynesianism which has recently become popular. Y.S. Brenner, Retired Professor of Economics, Utrecht University, The Netherlands Contrary to the commonly perpetuated belief that Keynes s theory is appropriate only to economic depressions, the author of this provocative book maintains that Keynes provided a complete set of macroeconomic relations and the ingredients of a new theoretical model, much more reflective of and analytically appropriate to the 21st century than those on which current macroeconomics is based. With the perspective of Keynes as the backdrop, the author begins with a discussion of the characteristics of the financial crises of 2008 and the 1930s. He then goes on to show that Keynes provided a novel, general theory, constructed as the EC-SP model (different from that of the Classicals Labour Theory of Value model and the neoClassicals antithetical IS-LM model), a theory yet unrecognized as being behind both A Treatise on Money and The General Theory. He presents here the premises of Keynes s contributions which still await use by a generation of economists to reassess macroeconomics and orient it in a new direction. This unique and authoritative look at Keynes s body of work will be an essential read for scholars and students of economics. Anyone trying to understand the state of the entrepreneurial economy , of which the 2008 financial crisis is but one manifestation prone to recurrence, will find the work an important resource.

Book Money and Investments

Download or read book Money and Investments written by Montgomery Rollins and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-04 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Money and Investments: A Reference Book for the Use of Those Desiring Information in the Handling of Money or the Investment Thereof There is not any book which is of especial value in aiding one to an understanding of the many intricate expressions and terms of the financial world. Most attempts in this line have either been by some "insider" who had an "axe to grind" and, therefore, desirous of selling his own wares, or, if not that, then some book or pamphlet which treats of investments and money matters from the standpoint of supposing the reader to already have a fair knowledge of finance, which has resulted in the use of terms and expressions not comprehensible to many. I am not aware of the existence of any reference book treating of matters relating to money, and the handling and investment thereof, in an elementary way; in a fashion to which those entirely untrained in its management may turn and find facts needful to their understanding plainly set forth. Such simple information as to the correct way to draw a check, indorse the same, open a bank account, and a thousand and one details of every-day life are things often not clear to many. It has long been my belief that there is need of some publication in which a mere beginner in the handling of money may seek for assistance in unravelling the mysteries of the expressions of Wall and State Streets, and giving in a concise form such instruction as above suggested. Book The General Theory of Employment Interest and Money

Download or read book The General Theory of Employment Interest and Money written by John Maynard Keynes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was originally published by Macmillan in 1936. It was voted the top Academic Book that Shaped Modern Britain by Academic Book Week (UK) in 2017, and in 2011 was placed on Time Magazine's top 100 non-fiction books written in English since 1923. Reissued with a fresh Introduction by the Nobel-prize winner Paul Krugman and a new Afterword by Keynes’ biographer Robert Skidelsky, this important work is made available to a new generation. The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money transformed economics and changed the face of modern macroeconomics. Keynes’ argument is based on the idea that the level of employment is not determined by the price of labour, but by the spending of money. It gave way to an entirely new approach where employment, inflation and the market economy are concerned. Highly provocative at its time of publication, this book and Keynes’ theories continue to remain the subject of much support and praise, criticism and debate. Economists at any stage in their career will enjoy revisiting this treatise and observing the relevance of Keynes’ work in today’s contemporary climate.

Book Aging and the Macroeconomy

Download or read book Aging and the Macroeconomy written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-01-10 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is in the midst of a major demographic shift. In the coming decades, people aged 65 and over will make up an increasingly large percentage of the population: The ratio of people aged 65+ to people aged 20-64 will rise by 80%. This shift is happening for two reasons: people are living longer, and many couples are choosing to have fewer children and to have those children somewhat later in life. The resulting demographic shift will present the nation with economic challenges, both to absorb the costs and to leverage the benefits of an aging population. Aging and the Macroeconomy: Long-Term Implications of an Older Population presents the fundamental factors driving the aging of the U.S. population, as well as its societal implications and likely long-term macroeconomic effects in a global context. The report finds that, while population aging does not pose an insurmountable challenge to the nation, it is imperative that sensible policies are implemented soon to allow companies and households to respond. It offers four practical approaches for preparing resources to support the future consumption of households and for adapting to the new economic landscape.

Book Inquiries into the Nature of Slow Money

Download or read book Inquiries into the Nature of Slow Money written by Woody Tasch and published by Chelsea Green Publishing. This book was released on 2010-05-15 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Could there ever be an alternative stock exchange dedicated to slow, small, and local? Could a million American families get their food from CSAs? What if you had to invest 50 percent of your assets within 50 miles of where you live?Such questions-at the heart of slow money-represent the first steps on our path to a new economy. Inquiries into the Nature of Slow Money presents an essential new strategy for investing in local food systems and introduces a group of fiduciary activists who are exploring what should come after industrial finance and industrial agriculture. Theirs is a vision for investing that puts soil fertility into return-on-investment calculations and serves people and place as much at it serves industry sectors and markets. Leading the charge is Woody Tasch-whose decades of work as a venture capitalist, foundation treasurer, and entrepreneur now shed new light on a truer, more beautiful, more prudent kind of fiduciary responsibility. He offers an alternative vision to the dusty old industrial concepts of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries when dollars, and the businesses they financed, lost their connection to place; slow money, on the other hand, is firmly rooted in the new economic, social, and environmental realities of the 21st century. Inquiries into the Nature of Slow Money is a call to action for designing capital markets built around not extraction and consumption but preservation and restoration. Is it a movement or is it an investment strategy? Yes.

Book The Macroeconomic Effects of Public Investment

Download or read book The Macroeconomic Effects of Public Investment written by Mr.Abdul Abiad and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-05-04 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides new evidence of the macroeconomic effects of public investment in advanced economies. Using public investment forecast errors to identify the causal effect of government investment in a sample of 17 OECD economies since 1985 and model simulations, the paper finds that increased public investment raises output, both in the short term and in the long term, crowds in private investment, and reduces unemployment. Several factors shape the macroeconomic effects of public investment. When there is economic slack and monetary accommodation, demand effects are stronger, and the public-debt-to-GDP ratio may actually decline. Public investment is also more effective in boosting output in countries with higher public investment efficiency and when it is financed by issuing debt.
