Unter der Kenntnis dessen, was er zu lehren hat, verstehen wir aber heute unendlich mehr als vor zwanzig oder selbst vor zehn Jahren. Wir verlangen nicht nur eine gründliche Kennt nis der Sprache, sondern wir verlangen mit Recht auch eine Kenntnis des deutschen Lebens denn wie kann der Lehrer irgend welches Verständnis oder irgend welches Interesse im Schüler fur das Leben der fremden Na tion erwecken, wenn er selbst gar nicht darüber unterrichtet ist.
