Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wrote The Mommy Hustle because I hate having to choose between family and business. I often felt bad when I had to attend a business meeting and miss games or even reading bedtimes stories. I then came to realize I'm a business owner who happens to be a mother and sometimes I have to choose business over family time to provide. We are often so worried about what others may say that we forget what is very important which is providing for our families by any means necessary. We are often worried about everyone else that we forget to take care of ourselves. Being a business mom doesn't mean I never have moments where I cry, stress, get angry, mess up or fail. It means I have only a few seconds to indulge in self-pity. then after its go time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We worry putting our family first means we'll be forced to abandon our careers. We're afraid if we pause our careers, we'll be forever off-track. This thinking is outdated—forget what you've heard about how pauses are career limiting, about how those who pause lack ambition, or that if you do pause you won't be able to re-enter the paid workforce. That's a flawed reality, one that doesn't reflect the truth of the careers of some of the most successful women in this country. Author Lisen Stromberg knows this success firsthand. After the birth of her second child, she did something she never imagined she would do: she opted out to focus on her family. But her career didn't end there. Lisen paused then pivoted to become first a social entrepreneur and then an award-winning journalist writing about women, work, and life in Silicon Valley. Along the way, she learned she wasn't alone. Lisen met many highly successful women who told her they never "opted out" but who had, in fact, temporarily downshifted or paused their careers. Their hidden journeys revealed alternative nonlinear paths to the top that enabled them to achieve their personal and professional goals. In Work PAUSE Thrive, Lisen shares their stories. Deeply rooted in social science research, cutting-edge data collected from nearly 1,500 women, and through 186 first-person interviews, this book reveals how trailblazing women have disrupted the traditional career paradigm. What worked for them can work for you. In this book, you'll learn: Who pauses, how they do it, and why How pausing can enrich both your career and your life How to innovate your own nonlinear career path What we can—and need—to do as a society to make it possible for more people to achieve their personal and professional goals Work PAUSE Thrive also reveals new and exciting trends in the workplace and offers targeted solutions for companies to help ensure they have cultures that will enable you to lead the life you want, a life in which you can build both a career and a family, and ultimately your own version of a life well lived.

Book Mothering and Entrepreneurship

Download or read book Mothering and Entrepreneurship written by Talia Esnard and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book focuses on a specific subset of work and the economy for entrepreneurial mothers across contexts. Here, we explore how socio-cultural, economic and national contexts (re)structure and (re)frame multiple nodes of power, difference, and the lived realities for mothers as workers across diverse contexts. At a broad level, the chapters address the different histories of oppression, movement of people, socio-economic conditions that underpin that experience, and, the various axes of power that affect the precariousness of work and citizenship on a global scale. On a more specific level, we set the work-family discourse within many points of contentions related to how researchers have conceptualized work-life interface, the specific assumptions embedded within these investigations, and the implications of these for how we (re)present the dynamics related to mothering and entrepreneurship. We see this type of interrogation as an important aspect of reframing not just the understanding of work-life interface, but also, that of how these affect the specific practices, choices, and responses of entrepreneurial mothers within specific localities and positionalities."--

Book The Juggling Mother

Download or read book The Juggling Mother written by Amanda D. Watson and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is the juggling mother, the woman who quietly flicks dried cereal off her blazer while running a corporate empire? The Juggling Mother explores this figure of contemporary mothering in media representations: a typically white, middle-class woman on the verge of coming undone because of her unwieldy slate of labours. Mothers who frantically juggle paid and unpaid work demands do not threaten the way labour is organized. In fact, as Amanda Watson demonstrates, they are model neoliberal workers who uphold white privilege – along with ableist notions of mastery, capacity, and productivity – because of a desire for political visibility and social inclusion. The Juggling Mother makes the controversial case that unfair labour distributions are publicly celebrated, intentionally performed, and intimately felt. Mothers with the most power are thus complicit in the exclusion of less privileged ones – and in their own undoing.
