Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (Bass Instruction). This book is based on the scale types that are necessary to master and understand the chord/scale relationships found in many styles of music. By keeping things simple and uncluttered, each page consists of only one scale type, illustrated on a bass guitar neck with the correct fingering a vital part of organizing the hands. The more organized the hands, the easier it is to play. The arpeggio shape is super-imposed over the corresponding scale in order to create an understanding of the chord/scale relationship. This is better explained with diagrams and not notation. However, because it is a good idea to associate finger positions with their notational equivalents, notation is also included. A simple but comprehensive jazz theory section is also included. This will help the student gain a deeper understanding of harmony and further insight into how to apply the scales found in this book.

Book Pulses in the Centre of Silence

Download or read book Pulses in the Centre of Silence written by Carlo Mombelli and published by . This book was released on 2020-03-13 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is primarily a book of Carlo Mombelli's recorded works. However, you will find not only the lead sheets or scores of his compositions from the stories of his life but also chapters about his musical ideas and concepts and theories about performance, listening, learning and teaching, so that you can gain insight into where and how those compositions were created. The views expressed in this book are Mombelli's alone and come from his experience as a bassist and composer, and the music concepts apply to all instrumentation. He tends to write from the viewpoint of being a jazz musician and an improviser - even though he is not sure if his compositions fall into that genre, as he has never wanted to be stuck in a box. Mombelli expresses his feelings and thoughts on music performance and composition: things that he has learnt and believes in as they have worked in his life as a musician. However, there are many different concepts, many different ways to practise and learn, and many ways to perform and achieve your goals. And there are many different styles of music. Whether you agree or disagree with him, it's all good. He has placed his writings in this book under six headings: 1. Tone, Taste, Time, Ears and Technique 2. Passion, Patience, Perseverance and Practice 3. Composition and Improvisation 4. Originality 5. Learning and Teaching 6. Music Scores and Lead Sheets (over 100 compositions)

Book Ubuntu Beyond Identities

Download or read book Ubuntu Beyond Identities written by Paul Zilungisele Tembe and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Twenty-five years after the delivery of political democracy, the Edenic projects of nonracialism and the Rainbow Nation have failed because there was no fuller appreciation of what is meant by ubuntu. The version of ubuntu that was used and applied immediately after 1994 should have focused first on re-empowering the Black social groups. Instead, attempts to rebuild all races and forge social cohesion were made through the defunct Truth and Reconciliation Commission and short-term sporting codes like the 1995 Rugby World Cup, the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. That understanding of ubuntu was a sanitised quick fix that could not undo centuries of dehumanisation, as characterised by apartheid. Ubuntu Beyond Identities presents the true meaning of ubuntu, which has its roots in communitarian societies and their value systems, and redefines it within the premises of lived African experiences. As part of an international benchmark on the viability of local value systems aimed at a fulfilled citizenry, the book compares ubuntu to its counterparts of Jantelagen in Sweden and Confucianism in China. The book emphasises that society is a lived space beyond the monetary capital production and seeks to empower South Africans with conceptual and practical tools to become dignified and fulfilled citizens. It explains the notions of ownership and examines two types: the private, which promotes individual profits aimed at a zero-sum game, and the primordial, which is meant to deliver to the communal table of society for the benefit of an entire nation." --

Book excerpt: “Africa and Beyond: Arts and Sustainable Development is a massive undertaking by thoughtful theorists and practitioners in the creative/cultural industry. The combined effect of the volume is to disabuse the fixed, prevailing conception of the role of culture in society; a view that consigns the arts to the periphery of social life, devoid of any meaningful contribution to the alleviation of poverty and general development. Contrary to this view, the volume presents a more comprehensive, meaningful, insightful set of perspectives and paradigms that ascribe agency to creative/cultural products in all facets of human development. The usefulness of the volume extends beyond the industry itself. It is meant for a broader readership and is therefore highly recommended for specialists and the public at large.” – Professor Mokubung Nkomo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa
