Book The Masculine Century Part

Download or read book The Masculine Century Part written by Michael Antony and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-10 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the origin of left and right in politics? This book is a study of the two opposing ideologies that have shaped the modern age-- Darwinism and Marxism, which battled for power in the Second World War, the Cold War, and the “culture wars” of recent years. Both are ideologies of aggression and violence, and drove forward the colossal mass murder and total war that made the twentieth century the bloodiest in history. Darwinism was the underpinning of dog-eat-dog capitalism, ruthless colonial expansion, and the Nazi doctrines of race war and the extermination of the weak. Marxism preached the eternal division of mankind into oppressor and oppressed, with violent revolution as the only salvation. Despite their total bankruptcy, these ideologies have meshed together in the “centrist” political consensus of the last decades, to give us a laissez-faire Darwinian economy and a neo-Marxist social system. The leftist causes of feminism and high immigration have become the tools of corporate power, the means of holding down wages by flooding labor markets. This led consumption to be fueled by debt, which triggered the recent financial crash. But this fatal rendezvous of Marx and Darwin threatens the future of our civilization even more definitively ....

I had an overnight stay in the Castle prison -- a badge of honour for a Quaker thy father would say thanks to an unfriendly judge. I was stunned out of my wits and thrown into the River Wensum by a man who is now a fugitive from the law. That same unfriendly judge fished me out of the river, so all is forgiven him. I have written to Wm. Scorby to reassure him about his daughter Alices good health. She is back working for Mrs. Varley, and is cleared of all suspicion that she tried to harm her. The true culprit is now proven to be Ambrose Flamborough, son of the Varley family lawyer. Bill need fret about Alice no longer. Thy term as sole High Potentate of Bowen & Sons is about to come to an end. Expect your brother and me late Wednesday. Thine affectionate Mother Ruth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CAUTION: You’re about to enter the world of Ann Coulter How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must), the instant New York Times bestseller, shows why Ann Coulter has become the most recognized—and controversial—conservative intellectual in years. Coulter ranges far and wide in this powerful and entertaining book, which draws on her weekly columns. No subject is off-limits, no comment left unsaid. She even includes a special chapter featuring the pieces that squeamish editors refused to publish—“what you could have read if you lived in a free country.” In How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must)—which features a brand-new chapter special to the paperback edition—Coulter offers her unvarnished take on: • The essence of being a liberal: “The absolute conviction that there is one set of rules for you, and another, completely different set of rules for everyone else.” • Her 9/11 comments: “I am often asked if I still think we should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity. The answer is: Now more than ever!” • The state of the Democratic Party: “Teddy Kennedy crawls out of Boston Harbor with a quart of Scotch in one pocket and a pair of pantyhose in the other, and Democrats hail him as their party’s spiritual leader.” • The “Treason Lobby”: “Want to make liberals angry? Defend the United States.” • How far the Left has sunk: “Liberals have been completely intellectually vanquished. Actually, they lost the war of ideas long ago. It’s just that now their defeat is so obvious, even they’ve noticed.” • And much more

Book The Last Foundling

Download or read book The Last Foundling written by Tom Mackenzie and published by Pan Macmillan. This book was released on 2014-03-13 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A deeply moving memoir from one of the last children to be taken in by the Foundling Hospital, London. When she fell pregnant in London in 1938, Jean knew that she couldn’t keep her baby. The unmarried daughter of an elder in the Church of Scotland, she would shame her family if she returned to the north in such a condition. Scared and alone in a city on the brink of war, she begged the Foundling Hospital to give her baby the start in life that she could not. The institution, which had been providing care for deserted infants since the eighteenth century, allowed Jean to nurse her son for nine weeks, leaving her heartbroken when the time came to let him go. But little Tom knew nothing of her love as he grew up in the Foundling Hospital – which, during years of the Second World War, was more like a prison than a children’s home. Locked in and subject to public canings and the sadistic whims of the older boys, there was no one to give him a hug, no one to wipe away his tears. A true story of desertion and neglect, this is also a moving account of survival from one of the very last foundlings. It stands as a testament to the love that ultimately led a family back together.

Book The Boy Man Masculinity and Immaturity in the Long Nineteenth Century

Download or read book The Boy Man Masculinity and Immaturity in the Long Nineteenth Century written by Pete Newbon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-04 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the evolution of male writers marked by peculiar traits of childlike immaturity. The ‘Boy-Man’ emerged from the nexus of Rousseau’s counter-Enlightenment cultural primitivism, Sensibility’s ‘Man of Feeling’, the Chattertonian poet maudit, and the Romantic idealisation of childhood. The Romantic era saw the proliferation of boy-men, who congregated around such metropolitan institutions as The London Magazine. These included John Keats, Leigh Hunt, Charles Lamb, Hartley Coleridge, Thomas De Quincey and Thomas Hood. In the period of the French Revolution, terms of childishness were used against such writers as Wordsworth, Keats, Hunt and Lamb as a tool of political satire. Yet boy-men writers conversely used their amphibian child-adult literary personae to critique the masculinist ideologies of their era. However, the growing cultural and political conservatism of the nineteenth century, and the emergence of a canon of serious literature, inculcated the relegation of the boy-men from the republic of letters.
