Book excerpt: Molecular Properties, Volume II is a collection of papers that deals with the physical and chemical properties of iron-sulfur proteins, with emphasis on the theory and application of physicochemical techniques related to metalloproteins. One paper describes the chemical properties of simple iron-sulfur proteins focusing on chloroplast, bacterial-type ferredoxins, and the nature of the active site in the ferredoxins. Another paper notes that rubredoxin sequences can offer phylogenetic, evolutionary, or genetic data. The paper shows that rubredoxins from aerobic and anaerobic bacteria have originated from some common ancestor. One paper analyzes the chemical and physical properties of rubredoxin and the way they relate to the structure resulting from an X-ray diffraction. The investigator can use electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), electron nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) spectroscopy, or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to determine the structural and functional features of simple and conjugated iron-sulfur proteins. He can also use a proton magnetic resonance (PMR) spectroscopy to study the structures and interactions of proteins in solution, such as ribonuclease, lysozyme, and the heme proteins (hemoglobins or myoglobins). Cellular biologists, micro-biologists, bio-chemists, and scientists involved in biological systems research will find this collection very informative.

Book Nonlinear Optical Properties of Organic Molecules and Crystals V2

Download or read book Nonlinear Optical Properties of Organic Molecules and Crystals V2 written by D.S. Chemla and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Optical Properties of Organic Molecules and Crystals, Volume 2 deals with the nonlinear optical properties of organic molecules and crystals, with emphasis on cubic nonlinear optical effects and and the intermolecular bond. Topics covered include the basic structural and electronic properties of polydiacetylenes; cubic effects in polydiacetylene solutions and films; and degenerate third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility of polydiacetylenes. Dimensionality effects and scaling laws in nonlinear optical susceptibilities are also considered. This volume is comprised of seven chapters divided into two sections and begins with a discussion on the basic structural and electronic properties of polydiacetylenes as well as their methods of preparation. Cubic nonlinearities in polydiacetylene solutions and films are then examined, paying particular attention to polarization in one-dimensional media; multiple reflections of fundamental and harmonic waves; and harmonic generation in an absorbing medium. The following chapters focus on degenerate third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility of polydiacetylenes; dimensionality effects and scaling laws in nonlinear optical susceptibilities; polarizabilities and hyperpolarizabilities of long molecules; and resonant molecular optics. The final chapter analyzes the nonlinear optics of a wide range of compounds that are held together by intermolecular bonding and form supramolecular assemblies. This monograph will be a useful resource for physicists, physical and organic chemists, and those in the field of quantum electronics.

Book Theory of Molecular Fluids

    Book Details:
  • Author : Christopher G. Gray
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2011-10-13
  • ISBN : 0191004871
  • Pages : 785 pages

Download or read book Theory of Molecular Fluids written by Christopher G. Gray and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-10-13 with total page 785 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Existing texts on the statistical mechanics of liquids treat only spherical molecules. However, nearly all fluids of practical interest are composed of non-spherical molecules that are often dipolar or exhibit other kinds of electrostatic forces. This book describes the statistical mechanical theory of fluids of non-spherical molecules and its application to the calculation of physical properties, and is a sequel to Theory of Molecular Fluids. Volume 1: Fundamentals by C.G. Gray and K.E. Gubbins. The emphasis is on the new phenomena that arise due to the non-spherical nature of the intermolecular forces, such as new phase transitions, structural features and dielectric effects. It contains chapters on the thermodynamic properties of pure and mixed fluids, surface properties, X-ray and neutron diffraction structure factors, dielectric properties and spectroscopic properties. The book is aimed at beginning graduate students and research workers in chemistry, physics, materials science and engineering.

Book Molecular Physical Chemistry for Engineering Applications

Download or read book Molecular Physical Chemistry for Engineering Applications written by Florin Emilian Daneș and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-06 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook introduces the molecular side of physical chemistry. It offers students and practitioners a new approach to the subject by presenting numerous applications and solved problems that illustrate the concepts introduced for varied and complex technical situations. The book offers a balance between theory, tools, and practical applications. The text aims to be a practical manual for solving engineering problems in industries where processes depend on the chemical composition and physical properties of matter. The book is organized into three main topics: (I) the molecular structure of matter, (II) molecular models in thermodynamics, and (III) transport phenomena and mechanisms. Part I presents methods of analysis of the molecular behavior in a given system, while the following parts use these methods to study the equilibrium states of a material system and to analyze the processes that can take place when the system is in a state of non-equilibrium, in particular the transport phenomena. Molecular Physical Chemistry for Engineering Applications is designed for upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in physical chemistry for engineers, applied physical chemistry, transport phenomena, colloidal chemistry, and transport/transfer processes. The book will also be a valuable reference guide for engineers, technicians, and scientists working in industry. Offers modeling techniques and tools for solving exercises and practical cases; Provides solutions and conclusions so students can follow results more closely; Step-by-step problem solving enables students to understand how to approach complex issues.

Book Computational Techniques in Quantum Chemistry and Molecular Physics

Download or read book Computational Techniques in Quantum Chemistry and Molecular Physics written by Geerd H.F. Diercksen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the transcripts of the lectures presented at the NATO Advanced study Institute on "Computational Techniques in Quantum Chemistry and Molecular Physics", held at Ramsau, Germany, 4th - 21st Sept. 1974. Quantum theory was developed in the early decades of this century and was first applied to problems in chemistry and molecular physics as early as 1927. It soon emerged however, that it was impossible to con sider any but the simplest systems in any quantita tive detail because of the complexity of Schrodinger's equation which is the basic equation for chemical and molecular physics applications. This remained the si tuation until the development, after 1950, of elec tronic digital computers. It then became possible to attempt approximate solutions of Schrodinger's equa tion for fairly complicated systems, to yield results which were sufficiently accurate to make comparison with experiment meaningful. Starting in the early nineteen sixties in the United States at a few centres with access to good computers an enormous amount of work went into the development and implementation of schemes for approximate solu tions of Schrodinger's equation, particularly the de velopment of the Hartree-Fock self-consistent-field scheme. But it was soon found that the integrals needed for application of the methods to molecular problems are far from trivial to evaluate and cannot be easily approximated.
