Download or read book Molecular Diffraction of Light Classic Reprint written by C. V. Raman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Molecular Diffraction of Light In the course of the work, references are made to cases in which the classical wave theory apparently fails to explain the facts relating to molecular scattering in a satisfactory manner, and in the final chapter an attempt is made to consider these cases in terms of the conception introduced by Einstein in 1905 that light is not continuous wave-motion but consists of discrete quanta moving through space. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Theory of Light IN undertaking the preparation of this fourth edition I felt, both on account of my respect for its late author and because the book has been so successful, that I ought to leave untouched, as far as possible, the main body of the text. Accordingly in this respect changes have only been made where such were necessary, in order to correct the few errors or inaccuracies which I have noticed, or to which I have seen attention directed occasionally in scientific papers. I have not considered it necessary to mark these alterations in any special way, but I gladly acknowledge here the assistance which such references have given me. Book Molecular Scattering of Light

Download or read book Molecular Scattering of Light written by I. L. Fabelinskii and published by Springer. This book was released on 1968-01 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of the laser and the subsequent expansion of research in the field of molecular scattering of light tend to ob scure the vast literature that accumulated on this subject during th'e last fifty years. The appearance of the Russian edition of Dr. Fabelinskii's book, just as this laser-induced explosion in light-scattering research took place, served to put the earlier work in its proper perspective. However, the book lacked any appreci able coverage of the laser work. Fortunately, Dr. Fabelinskii has taken advantage of the time between the appearance of the Russian text and its translation into English to expand greatly the sections devoted to areas in which laser research has made such interesting and vital additions, At the same time, revisions and insertions have been made throughout the text, so that the English translation is virtually a second edition of this useful work. The translator wishes to express his thanks here to Dr. Fa belinskii for making the revisions, corrections, and additions availahle for the English language work. He is also grateful to his graduate student, Mark B. Moffett, who prepared the index and who, during the course of its preparation, made a large number of crit ical comments and corrections that have enhanced the quality of the final product.

Book Molecular Biology of the Cell

Download or read book Molecular Biology of the Cell written by Bruce Alberts and published by Garland Science. This book was released on 2017-08-07 with total page 1465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the amount of information in biology expands dramatically, it becomes increasingly important for textbooks to distill the vast amount of scientific knowledge into concise principles and enduring concepts. As with previous editions, Molecular Biology of the Cell, Sixth Edition accomplishes this goal with clear writing and beautiful illustrations. The Sixth Edition has been extensively revised and updated with the latest research in the field of cell biology, and it provides an exceptional framework for teaching and learning. The entire illustration program has been greatly enhanced.Protein structures better illustrate structure–function relationships, icons are simpler and more consistent within and between chapters, and micrographs have been refreshed and updated with newer, clearer, or better images. As a new feature, each chapter now contains intriguing openended questions highlighting “What We Don’t Know,” introducing students to challenging areas of future research. Updated end-of-chapter problems reflect new research discussed in the text, and these problems have been expanded to all chapters by adding questions on developmental biology, tissues and stem cells, pathogens, and the immune system.

Book The Science of Light Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Science of Light Classic Reprint written by Percy Phillips and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Science of Light This book is intended as a companion to that on Radiation previously published in this same series, and the first three chapters in that book should be read before commencing this. Light plays such an important part in the life of man that it is only natural that speculation as to its nature and investigation of its laws should have begun very early. But although this is true, yet the ancients seem to have been exceedingly slow in the invention and construction of optical instruments, and to have been completely innocent of any reasonable optical theory. All the refinements both of construction and theory have happened well within the last three centuries. Metallic mirrors are, of course, very ancient. Many of them have been recovered from ancient Egyptian tombs, and they are very distinctly mentioned in the books of Exodus and Job. Burning-glasses in the form of globes of water or of glass were also known at a very early time, Aristophanes mentioning them in a comedy of his which was performed in 424 B.C. The most reasonable of the early theories was also one of the very earliest. Pythagoras, who died somewhere about 520 B.C., considered the sensation of sight to be caused by particles continuously shot out from luminous surfaces and entering the pupil of the eye. This is exactly the theory which Newton developed so brilliantly over 2000 years later, but the other theories were very fantastic and meaningless. Book The VSEPR Model of Molecular Geometry

Download or read book The VSEPR Model of Molecular Geometry written by Ronald J Gillespie and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-03-21 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion (VSEPR) theory is a simple technique for predicting the geometry of atomic centers in small molecules and molecular ions. This authoritative reference was written by Istvan Hartiggai and the developer of VSEPR theory, Ronald J. Gillespie. In addition to its value as a text for courses in molecular geometry and chemistry, it constitutes a classic reference for professionals. Starting with coverage of the broader aspects of VSEPR, this volume narrows its focus to a succinct survey of the methods of structural determination. Additional topics include the applications of the VSEPR model and its theoretical basis. Helpful data on molecular geometries, bond lengths, and bond angles appear in tables and other graphics.
