  • Publisher : Royal Society of Chemistry

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

Book Perturbations in the Spectra of Diatomic molecules

Download or read book Perturbations in the Spectra of Diatomic molecules written by Helene Lefebvre-Brion and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perturbations in the Spectra of Diatomic Molecules examines in sufficient detail the spectrum of every diatomic molecule. This book is divided into seven chapters. Chapter 1 describes the perturbations and simple procedures for evaluating matrix elements of angular momentum. The terms in the molecular Hamiltonian that are responsible for perturbations are elaborated in Chapter 2, while the process of reducing spectra to molecular constants and the difficulty of relating empirical parameters to terms in the exact molecular Hamiltonian are described in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 discusses the magnitudes and physical interpretations of matrix elements. The transition intensities, especially quantum mechanical interference effects, are reviewed in Chapter 5. The last two chapters are devoted to the two forms of perturbation—predissociation and autoionization. This publication is a good source for graduate students, theorists, experimentalists, and potential users of spectroscopic data.

Book Molecules and Radiation

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jeffrey I. Steinfeld
  • Publisher : Courier Corporation
  • Release : 2012-11-09
  • ISBN : 0486137546
  • Pages : 514 pages

Download or read book Molecules and Radiation written by Jeffrey I. Steinfeld and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2012-11-09 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unified treatment introduces upper-level undergraduates and graduate students to the concepts and methods of modern molecular spectroscopy and their applications to quantum electronics, lasers, and related optical phenomena. Starting with a review of the prerequisite quantum mechanical background, the text examines atomic spectra and diatomic molecules, including the rotation and vibration of diatomic molecules and their electronic spectra. A discussion of rudimentary group theory advances to considerations of the rotational spectra of polyatomic molecules and their vibrational and electronic spectra; molecular beams, masers, and lasers; and a variety of forms of spectroscopy, including optical resonance spectroscopy, coherent transient spectroscopy, multiple-photon spectroscopy, and spectroscopy beyond molecular constants. The text concludes with a series of useful appendixes.

Book Molecular Constants Mostly from Infrared Spectroscopy

Download or read book Molecular Constants Mostly from Infrared Spectroscopy written by Guy Guelachvili and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the advent of modern instruments and theories over the last decades, a considerable amount of spectroscopic information has been collected. The infrared, in particular, has seen extraordinary activity. Using Fourier transform interferometers and infrared lasers, accurate data have been measured, often with extreme sensitivity. These data have been analyzed, and accurate molecular parameters have been determined. Volume II/20, "Molecular Constants mostly from Infrared Spectroscopy," is a Landolt-Bornstein publication series bringing together these results. It is made up of several subvolumes (A, B, C, D) with comprehensive compilation of critically evaluated molecular constants of diatomic (A), linear triatomic (B), other triatomic (C) and other polyatomic (D) molecules.

Book High Resolution Fourier Transform Spectroscopy of Linear Molecules

Download or read book High Resolution Fourier Transform Spectroscopy of Linear Molecules written by K. A. Mohamed and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High resolution Fourier transform spectra of linear molecules have evoked a great deal of interest during the last several years, which could be seen from the several hundreds of papers published in the journal on the spectra of diatomic and small linear polyatomic molecules. This book describes the advantages of FT Spectroscopy, the techniques employed in absorption and emission spectroscopy, and presents the theoretical models and formulas used in the analyses and interpretation of the spectra. The Perturbations observed in the spectra due to Fermi, Darling-Dennison, Coriolis, and other anharmonic resonances; and vibrational and rotational l-type resonances etc. are discussed with suitable examples. The types of information obtained from FT spectroscopy of two to ten atomic linear molecules, their observed transitions and spectral perturbation etc. are presented along with figures and curves.

Book Fundamentals of Molecular Symmetry

Download or read book Fundamentals of Molecular Symmetry written by P.R. Bunker and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of a 2005 CHOICE Outstanding Academic Book Award Molecular symmetry is an easily applied tool for understanding and predicting many of the properties of molecules. Traditionally, students are taught this subject using point groups derived from the equilibrium geometry of the molecule. Fundamentals of Molecular Symmetry shows how to set up symmetry groups for molecules using the more general idea of energy invariance. It is no more difficult than using molecular geometry and one obtains molecular symmetry groups. The book provides an introductory description of molecular spectroscopy and quantum mechanics as the foundation for understanding how molecular symmetry is defined and used. The approach taken gives a balanced account of using both point groups and molecular symmetry groups. Usually the point group is only useful for isolated, nonrotating molecules, executing small amplitude vibrations, with no tunneling, in isolated electronic states. However, for the chemical physicist or physical chemist who wishes to go beyond these limitations, the molecular symmetry group is almost always required.
