Book High resolution ENDOR Studies on Vanadyl Porphyrins and Crude oil Petroporphyrins

Download or read book High resolution ENDOR Studies on Vanadyl Porphyrins and Crude oil Petroporphyrins written by Donald D. Mannikko and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An open area of inquiry in chemistry research is the chemical environment surrounding vanadyl ions and particularly vanadyl porphyrins in crude oil. This is of interest due to the deleterious effect vanadyl has upon the catalytic efficiency of the chemical processes used to "upgrade" oil through contemporary refining practices. This dissertation describes the first steps towards developing a new method of non-destructive separation-free speciation of vanadyl porphyrins in crude oil through high-resolution electron nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) spectroscopy. The first two chapters describe the physical parameters of interest that are measured with Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR), and a review of the research into vanadyl in crude oil. The development of the new method begins in Chapter 3 with the introduction of chemically relevant vanadyl porphyrins, and the complete analysis of their experimentally determined magnetic parameters. Chapter 4 describes the effort of combining the high-resolution ENDOR spectra with a series of mathematical models that allow analysis of these complicated mixtures of vanadyl porphyrins in crude oil.

  • ISBN : 0080923941
  • Pages : 335 pages

Download or read book The Porphyrin Handbook written by Karl Kadish and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Porphyrin Handbook, Volume 20: Phthalocyanines: Structural Characterization provides information pertinent to every aspect of the chemistry, synthesis, spectroscopy, and structure of phthalocyanines. This book examines the biology and medical implications of porphyrin systems. Organized into one chapter, this volume begins with an overview of the molecular and crystal structures of phthalocyanine and related complexes followed by a database section. This text then examines the crystallographic data that provided many researchers with the foundation to conduct their own research on phthalocyanine crystal structures. This book considers the structural basis for the prediction or calculation of the phthalocyanine physical properties. This book discusses as well the fundamental structure of a phthalocyanine molecule that consists of four isoindole units, circularly linked via azamethine bridges. This book is a valuable resource for research scientists, engineers, and clinicians.

Book The Porphyrins V4

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Dolphin
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2012-12-02
  • ISBN : 0323146333
  • Pages : 550 pages

Download or read book The Porphyrins V4 written by David Dolphin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Porphyrins, Volume IV: Physical Chemistry, Part B focuses on the physical chemistry of porphyrins, their precursors, catabolic derivatives, and related compounds. The book covers nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy of diamagnetic and paramagnetic porphyrins and electron nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) spectroscopy of chlorophylls and related systems. It also encompasses electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy of porphyrin pi cations and anions, porphyrin excited states, metalloporphyrins, hemoproteins, and hemes. This volume is organized into nine chapters and begins with an overview of NMR theory and the use of NMR spectroscopy to study diamagnetic porphyrins and paramagnetic metalloporphyrins. The discussion then shifts to the theory of ENDOR spectroscopy and the application of ENDOR spectroscopy to analysis of chlorophylls, ESR of pi cations and anions of porphyrins as well as porphyrin excited states, and electron paramagnetic resonance and Mossbauer spectra of hemoproteins. The reader is also introduced to ESR and the electronic structure of metalloporphyrins. A chapter on Mossbauer spectroscopy of iron porphyrins concludes the book. This book is a valuable resource for inorganic, organic, physical, and biochemists interested in the physical chemistry of porphyrins.

Download or read book The Porphyrin Handbook written by Karl Kadish and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Porphyrin Handbook, Volume 16: Phthalocyanines: Spectroscopic and Electrochemical Characterization provides information pertinent to every aspect of the chemistry, synthesis, spectroscopy, and structure of phthalocyanines. This book examines the biology and medical implications of porphyrin systems. Organized into five chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the photophysical properties of phthalocyanines that are important in relation to photosensitizers in photodynamic therapy, photoconductor, solar cells, and artificial photosynthesis. This text then describe how the data obtained from magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy has provided the critical information required to describe the excited and ground state degeneracies of main group metallophthalocyanines complexes. Other chapters consider the electrocatalysis by electrodes modified with phthalocyanine sensors and complexes. This book discusses as well the properties of phthalocyanines and of their complexes. The final chapter deals with the experiments with organic pigment thin films. This book is a valuable resource for research scientists, engineers, and clinicians.

Book Expanded Contracted Isomeric Porphyrins

Download or read book Expanded Contracted Isomeric Porphyrins written by J.L. Sessler and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-08-21 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The porphyrins are a class of naturally-occurring macrocycles and are ubiquitous in our world. As such, they have been called the Pigments of Life. This auspicious designation reflects their importance in numerous biological functions. Indeed, life as we understand it relies on the full range of biological processes that are either performed by or catalyzed by porphyrin-containing proteins. Chlorophyll-containing photosynthetic reaction centers in plants, for instance, convert light energy into chemical energy while producing oxygen along the way. It is this oxygen, evolved from photosynthesis, that is transported, stored, and reduced by heme-containing proteins in many organisms, including mammals. Not surprisingly, therefore, these molecules remain of fundamental interest to chemists and biochemists. Indeed, they continue to be intensely investigated by researchers world-wide.Inspired by the importance of the porphyrins, a new research direction has emerged in recent years that is devoted to the preparation and study of non-porphyrin polypyrrole macrocycles. Here, the principal objectives have been to generate completely synthetic systems that bear some structural resemblance to naturally-occurring porphyrin derivatives while being quite different in their specific chemical makeup. Within this context, three different research directions have evolved, namely those involving the syntheses of contracted, isomeric, and expanded porphyrins, respectively. It is the chemistry of these systems that is the subject of this book. Because of the newness of the field, the emphasis of this book will be on synthesis and characterization (all work on porphyrin isomers and much of that associated with expanded porphyrins has only appeared in the last 10 years). One chapter on applications has, however, been included. Also, in the context of the preparative portions of the text, some efforts have been made to explain why various porphyrin analogue targets are of interest.
