Book The Middle Moffat

Download or read book The Middle Moffat written by Eleanor Estes and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2001-04-01 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Newbery Honor Book: A classic children’s novel that “can make a hardened adult reviewer laugh repeatedly” (The New Yorker). Who is Jane Moffat, anyway? She isn’t the youngest in the family, and she isn’t the oldest—she is always just Jane. How boring. So Jane decides to become a figure of mystery . . . the mysterious “Middle Moffat.” But being in the middle is a lot harder than it looks. In between not rescuing stray dogs, and losing and finding best friends, Jane must secretly look after the oldest inhabitant of Cranbury . . . so he can live to be one hundred. Between brushing her hair from her eyes and holding up her stockings, she has to help the girls’ basketball team win the championship. And it falls to Jane—the only person in town with enough courage—to stand up to the frightful mechanical wizard Wallie Bangs. Jane is so busy keeping Cranbury in order that she barely has time to be plain old Jane. Sometimes the middle is the most exciting place of all. . . . “There is much that is touching about Janey, and funny and lovable too.” —The New York Times “This is the second Moffat book and seems even funnier, particularly the part where Jane takes the part of the Middle Bear in a charity show . . . The pictures by Louis Slobodkin add tremendously to the fun. Don't miss this!” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

Book Steven Moffat s Doctor Who 2011

Download or read book Steven Moffat s Doctor Who 2011 written by Steven Cooper and published by Punked Books. This book was released on 2012 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At over 90,000 words, this is the most comprehensive guide yet published to the 2011 season of Doctor Who. This series of Doctor Who had the greatest ambition yet, as Steven Moffat created the most complex Doctor Who story arc ever. The apparent death of the Doctor in the very first episode set the groundwork for a series full of other shocks and revelations (such as River Song's identity), which ended with a return to the essential mystery that has always underpinned the programme. The format of this book is the same as the one that we laid out in our previous guide to Matt Smith's first series as the Doctor. Steven Cooper has written excellent detailed analyses of each episode, which he published online soon after each episode was broadcast, thus providing an invaluable record of how a long-standing fan reacted to each twist of the plot as it occurred. Kevin Mahoney follows Steven's analyses with his reviews, which he wrote from the perspective of having watched the entire series. This enabled Kevin to gauge exactly how Steven Moffat had put this season together, and to assess the success of his various hoodwinks and sleights of hand. There have been various controversies this series, such as Moffat's novel move to split the series in half. Then there were murmurings of discontent within fandom when the news that there might be fewer than 14 episodes in 2012 leaked out, along with the perennial erroneous tales from the newspapers about the loss of viewing figures. The cancellation of Doctor Who Confidential left some fans fearing for the future of such an expensive show in austere times. Others have gone further than this, to suggest that Doctor Who itself needs a break. However, despite some minor blips in the storytelling department in 2011, this book argues that there is still a great deal to be positive about in Doctor Who. While we haven't quite yet reached another golden age for the programme, the authors of this book believe that the potential is still very much there to achieve this.

Book Steven Moffat s Doctor Who 2012 2013

Download or read book Steven Moffat s Doctor Who 2012 2013 written by Steven Cooper and published by Punked Books. This book was released on 2014-10-10 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At over 90,000 words, this is the most comprehensive fan guide yet published to the 2012-2013 season of Doctor Who. After the first part of the season provided an emotional ending to the Doctor's travels with his friends Amy and Rory, Steven Moffat presented an innovative and intriguing new mystery, as the Doctor puzzled over the “woman twice dead” that is Clara Oswald, who had the most spectacular introduction(s) of any companion. This series was the most demanding yet for Moffat; no other Doctor Who showrunner had previously faced an assignment like writing a series finale, an anniversary story, and a combined Christmas Special/Doctor finale in quick succession. We are with Moffat every step of the way as he rises to this unique challenge. The format of this book is the same as our previous Doctor Who guides. Steven Cooper has written excellent detailed analyses of each episode, which Slant Magazine published online in their House Next Door blog soon after each episode was broadcast. In this way, Steven’s reviews provide an invaluable record of how a long-standing fan reacted to each twist of the plot as it occurred. House Next Door published Steven’s 2013 episode reviews in abridged form; he then expanded upon his analyses, so this book contains far more of his insights than those published online. Kevin Mahoney then follows Steven’s analyses with his reviews, which he wrote from the perspective of having watched the entire series. This enabled him to gauge exactly how Steven Moffat had put this season together, and to assess the success of his various hoodwinks and sleights of hand. In this series, Steven Moffat was just as ambitious as ever - perhaps too ambitious at times, when the scripting became uneven or the production team was not able to realize an episode as well as they might have done. Despite this, there were several episodes that rank among the best of the show's achievements, which we applaud in this celebration of Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary.

Book Steven Moffat s Doctor Who 2014 2015 The Critical Fan s Guide to Peter Capaldi s Doctor Unauthorized

Download or read book Steven Moffat s Doctor Who 2014 2015 The Critical Fan s Guide to Peter Capaldi s Doctor Unauthorized written by Steven Cooper and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-10-24 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After three successful seasons at the helm of Doctor Who, Steven Moffat was faced with the need to establish a whole new direction for the show with the introduction of his second Doctor. When it was announced in August 2013 that Peter Capaldi would be taking over the role for the following year's series, Doctor Who's public profile was bigger than ever before, and the reveal of the new Doctor became a TV event in its own right. Unlike the mixed reaction to the virtually unknown Matt Smith becoming the Doctor, Capaldi's casting was met with almost universal approval. Moffat spoke of how the new Doctor would be more in the patrician mould of the classic series than the "youthful boyfriend" exterior projected by both Smith and David Tennant. In this book, Steven Cooper covers all 26 episodes broadcast in 2014 and 2015, from the start of the Capaldi era to the 2015 Christmas special.

Book Curtis Moffat

Download or read book Curtis Moffat written by Mark Haworth-Booth and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first publication on the American modernist photographer Curtis Moffat (1887-1949), who is known for his dynamic abstract photographs, innovative color still lifes and some of the most glamorous society portraits of the early 20th century. He was also a pivotal figure in modernist interior design and furniture. Living in London throughout the 1920s and early 1930s, in the era of the Bright Young Things, Moffat produced stylish photographic portraits of leading figures in high society, theatre and the arts, including Cecil Beaton, the Sitwells, Nancy Cunard, Lady Diana Cooper, Tallulah Bankhead and Daphne du Maurier. In 2003 and 2007, Moffat's daughter, Penelope Smail, generously donated her father's extensive archive to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. This book is drawn from that archive and includes, in addition, digital reconstructions of color images from original tri-carbro process black-and-white negatives. It reveals Moffat's pioneering but hitherto little-known photography in all its depth and beauty.

In particular, the careful and detailed description of algorithms and their implementation, plus accompanying pseudo-code that can be readily implemented on computer, make this book a definitive reference in an area currently without one.

Book Tuscany

  • Author : Alistair Moffat
  • Publisher : Birlinn
  • Release : 2011-06-14
  • ISBN : 0857900560
  • Pages : 414 pages

Download or read book Tuscany written by Alistair Moffat and published by Birlinn. This book was released on 2011-06-14 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since the days of the Grand Tour, Tuscany has cast its spell over the British. Attracted by the perfect combination of history, art, architecture, superb natural beauty and weather - not to mention magnificent traditions of food and drink - British visitors and residents have been at times so numerous that the local word for foreigners was simply 'gli inglesi' - 'the English'. Currently over 10 000 Britons live there, not to mention the huge numbers who travel there for holidays. What is it that makes this exquisite part of Italy so seductive? To answer this question Alistair Moffat embarks on a journey into Tuscany's past. From the flowering of the Etruscan civilization in the seventh century BC through the rise of the powerful medieval communes of Arezzo, Luca, Pisa and Florence, and the role the area played as the birthplace of the Renaissance, he underlines both the area's regional uniqueness as well as the vital role it has played in the history of the whole of Italy. Insightful, readable and imbued with the author's own enthusiasm for Tuscany, this book includes a wealth of information not found in tourist guides, and is the only modern history of the area available in English.
