Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book grew out of three series of lectures given at the summer school on "Modular Forms and their Applications" at the Sophus Lie Conference Center in Nordfjordeid in June 2004. The first series treats the classical one-variable theory of elliptic modular forms. The second series presents the theory of Hilbert modular forms in two variables and Hilbert modular surfaces. The third series gives an introduction to Siegel modular forms and discusses a conjecture by Harder. It also contains Harder's original manuscript with the conjecture. Each part treats a number of beautiful applications.

Book Siegel s Modular Forms and Dirichlet Series

Download or read book Siegel s Modular Forms and Dirichlet Series written by Hans Maaß and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes present the content of a course I delivered at the University of Maryland, College Park, between September 1969 and April 1970. The choice of the subject was mainly determined by my intention to show how Atle Selberg makes fascinating use of differential operators in order to prove certain functional equations. Of course one has to be somewhat familiar with his theory of weakly symmetric Riemannian spaces, but - as Selberg himself pointed out to me the main idea can be found already in Riemann's work. Since Selberg never published his idea, it might be of some value for the mathematical community to make available to a wider public the methods which were originally conceived by Selberg a long time ago.

Book Automorphic Forms and Geometry of Arithmetic Varieties

Download or read book Automorphic Forms and Geometry of Arithmetic Varieties written by K. Hashimoto and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-07-14 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Automorphic Forms and Geometry of Arithmetic Varieties deals with the dimension formulas of various automorphic forms and the geometry of arithmetic varieties. The relation between two fundamental methods of obtaining dimension formulas (for cusp forms), the Selberg trace formula and the index theorem (Riemann-Roch's theorem and the Lefschetz fixed point formula), is examined. Comprised of 18 sections, this volume begins by discussing zeta functions associated with cones and their special values, followed by an analysis of cusps on Hilbert modular varieties and values of L-functions. The reader is then introduced to the dimension formula of Siegel modular forms; the graded rings of modular forms in several variables; and Selberg-Ihara's zeta function for p-adic discrete groups. Subsequent chapters focus on zeta functions of finite graphs and representations of p-adic groups; invariants and Hodge cycles; T-complexes and Ogata's zeta zero values; and the structure of the icosahedral modular group. This book will be a useful resource for mathematicians and students of mathematics.

Book Number Theory and Modular Forms

Download or read book Number Theory and Modular Forms written by Bruce C. Berndt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert A. Rankin, one of the world's foremost authorities on modular forms and a founding editor of The Ramanujan Journal, died on January 27, 2001, at the age of 85. Rankin had broad interests and contributed fundamental papers in a wide variety of areas within number theory, geometry, analysis, and algebra. To commemorate Rankin's life and work, the editors have collected together 25 papers by several eminent mathematicians reflecting Rankin's extensive range of interests within number theory. Many of these papers reflect Rankin's primary focus in modular forms. It is the editors' fervent hope that mathematicians will be stimulated by these papers and gain a greater appreciation for Rankin's contributions to mathematics. This volume would be an inspiration to students and researchers in the areas of number theory and modular forms.

Book Non Archimedean L Functions and Arithmetical Siegel Modular Forms

Download or read book Non Archimedean L Functions and Arithmetical Siegel Modular Forms written by Michel Courtieu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-12-09 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, now in its 2nd edition, is devoted to the arithmetical theory of Siegel modular forms and their L-functions. The central object are L-functions of classical Siegel modular forms whose special values are studied using the Rankin-Selberg method and the action of certain differential operators on modular forms which have nice arithmetical properties. A new method of p-adic interpolation of these critical values is presented. An important class of p-adic L-functions treated in the present book are p-adic L-functions of Siegel modular forms having logarithmic growth. The given construction of these p-adic L-functions uses precise algebraic properties of the arithmetical Shimura differential operator. The book will be very useful for postgraduate students and for non-experts looking for a quick approach to a rapidly developing domain of algebraic number theory. This new edition is substantially revised to account for the new explanations that have emerged in the past 10 years of the main formulas for special L-values in terms of arithmetical theory of nearly holomorphic modular forms.

Book Harmonic Maass Forms and Mock Modular Forms Theory and Applications

Download or read book Harmonic Maass Forms and Mock Modular Forms Theory and Applications written by Kathrin Bringmann and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modular forms and Jacobi forms play a central role in many areas of mathematics. Over the last 10–15 years, this theory has been extended to certain non-holomorphic functions, the so-called “harmonic Maass forms”. The first glimpses of this theory appeared in Ramanujan's enigmatic last letter to G. H. Hardy written from his deathbed. Ramanujan discovered functions he called “mock theta functions” which over eighty years later were recognized as pieces of harmonic Maass forms. This book contains the essential features of the theory of harmonic Maass forms and mock modular forms, together with a wide variety of applications to algebraic number theory, combinatorics, elliptic curves, mathematical physics, quantum modular forms, and representation theory.

Book Modular Functions and Dirichlet Series in Number Theory

Download or read book Modular Functions and Dirichlet Series in Number Theory written by Tom M. Apostol and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second volume of a 2-volume textbook* which evolved from a course (Mathematics 160) offered at the California Institute of Technology du ring the last 25 years. The second volume presupposes a background in number theory com parable to that provided in the first volume, together with a knowledge of the basic concepts of complex analysis. Most of the present volume is devoted to elliptic functions and modular functions with some of their number-theoretic applications. Among the major topics treated are Rademacher's convergent series for the partition function, Lehner's congruences for the Fourier coefficients of the modular functionj( r), and Hecke's theory of entire forms with multiplicative Fourier coefficients. The last chapter gives an account of Bohr's theory of equivalence of general Dirichlet series. Both volumes of this work emphasize classical aspects of a subject wh ich in recent years has undergone a great deal of modern development. It is hoped that these volumes will help the nonspecialist become acquainted with an important and fascinating part of mathematics and, at the same time, will provide some of the background that belongs to the repertory of every specialist in the field. This volume, like the first, is dedicated to the students who have taken this course and have gone on to make notable contributions to number theory and other parts of mathematics. T. M. A. January, 1976 * The first volume is in the Springer-Verlag series Undergraduate Texts in Mathematics under the title Introduction to Analytic Number Theory.

Book Codes And Modular Forms A Dictionary

Download or read book Codes And Modular Forms A Dictionary written by Minjia Shi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-11-20 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are connections between invariant theory and modular forms since the times of Felix Klein, in the 19th century, connections between codes and lattices since the 1960's. The aim of the book is to explore the interplay between codes and modular forms. Here modular form is understood in a wide sense (Jacobi forms, Siegel forms, Hilbert forms). Codes comprises not only linear spaces over finite fields but modules over some commutative rings. The connection between codes over finite fields and lattices has been well documented since the 1970s. Due to an avalanche of results on codes over rings since the 1990's there is a need for an update at book level.

Book Elliptic Curves and Modular Forms in Algebraic Topology

Download or read book Elliptic Curves and Modular Forms in Algebraic Topology written by Peter S. Landweber and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A small conference was held in September 1986 to discuss new applications of elliptic functions and modular forms in algebraic topology, which had led to the introduction of elliptic genera and elliptic cohomology. The resulting papers range, fom these topics through to quantum field theory, with considerable attention to formal groups, homology and cohomology theories, and circle actions on spin manifolds. Ed. Witten's rich article on the index of the Dirac operator in loop space presents a mathematical treatment of his interpretation of elliptic genera in terms of quantum field theory. A short introductory article gives an account of the growth of this area prior to the conference.

Book Introduction to Siegel Modular Forms and Dirichlet Series

Download or read book Introduction to Siegel Modular Forms and Dirichlet Series written by Anatoli Andrianov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-17 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several years ago I was invited to an American university to give one-term graduate course on Siegel modular forms, Hecke operators, and related zeta functions. The idea to present in a concise but basically complete and self-contained form an int- duction to an important and developing area based partly on my own work attracted me. I accepted the invitation and started to prepare the course. Unfortunately, the visit was not realized. But the idea of such a course continued to be alive till after a number of years this book was ?nally completed. I hope that this short book will serve to attract young researchers to this beautiful ?eld, and that it will simplify and make more pleasant the initial steps. No special knowledge is presupposed for reading this book beyond standard courses in algebra and calculus (one and several variables), although some skill in working with mathematical texts would be helpful. The reader will judge whether the result was worth the effort. Dedications. The ideas of Goro Shimura exerted a deep in?uence on the number theory of the second half of the twentieth century in general and on the author’s formation in particular. When Andre ` Weil was signing a copy of his “Basic Number Theory” to my son, he wrote in Russian, ”To Fedor Anatolievich hoping that he will become a number theoretist”. Fedor has chosen computer science. Now I pass on the idea to Fedor’s daughter, Alexandra Fedorovna.

  • Pages : 44 pages

Download or read book Modular Forms written by Claudia Alfes-Neumann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-11 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this essential, Claudia Alfes-Neumann discusses applications of the theory of modular forms and their importance as fundamental tools in mathematics. These functions - initially defined purely analytically - appear in many areas of mathematics: very prominently in number theory, but also in geometry, combinatorics, representation theory, and physics. After explaining necessary basics from complex analysis, the author defines modular forms and shows some applications in number theory. Furthermore, she takes up two important aspects of the theory surrounding modular forms: Hecke operators and L-functions of modular forms. The essentials conclude with an outlook on real-analytic generalizations of modular forms, which play an important role in current research. This Springer essential is a translation of the original German 1st edition essentials, Modulformen by Claudia Alfes-Neumann, published by Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, part of Springer Nature in 2020. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors.
