Book excerpt: The Ministry of Health, Malaysia (MOH) and the Department of Veterinary Services, Malaysia (DVS) have been holding annual field simulation exercises since 2006, focusing on outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) involving multiple stakeholders. This exercise is designed to facilitate understanding as well as to review the applicability of SOPs and relevant guidelines in the management of HPAI outbreak. It further aims to identify the strengths and opportunities for improvement in all aspects of outbreak management. This module is an example of possible scenarios of the exercise that depicts a hypothetical outbreak of avian influenza amongst poultry, either commercial or backyard. While there are several specific objectives, the general objective is to enhance and strengthen interagency preparedness and response to HPAI outbreak at all levels.

Book excerpt: Available online: http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:norden:org:diva-6040 The simulation exercise on Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) conducted by the Nordic-Baltic Veterinary Contingency Group (NBVCG) took place in Vilnius, Lithuania. The aim of the simulation exercise was to prepare and conduct an FMD emergency vaccination plan and exit strategy, as well as to prepare and conduct the stamping-out of large herds. The evaluation report recommended that the experience gained of killing and disposal from the ASF outbreak in the Baltic countries should be shared with the other countries. In-country training, workshops and simulation exercises are recommended in order to maintain a high level of awareness of FMD, contingency plans and the ability of stakeholders to respond. It was further recommended that a detailed vaccination implementation plan should be developed.

Book The Art of Intelligence

Download or read book The Art of Intelligence written by William J. Lahneman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-03-13 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 9/11 attacks, the number of intelligence courses and related curricula have soared. Many instructors look for interactive learning tools because they add immeasurable value to the student’s understanding of the intelligence enterprise. Such tools, however, take time and effort to develop and are not circulated among faculty. This is the first textbook to offer in one volume original simulations, exercises, and games designed by academics and intelligence professionals from several countries. These innovative methods are meant to enhance the learning experience and provide an international perspective to the topics and approaches discussed in class. Intelligence simulations and games are presented in ready-to run formats, from easy instructions to result recordings matrices, to minimize preparation time for both instructors and students. Exercises, such as cyber attack simulation, information sharing, ethical scenarios and more, expose the student to the many subtle aspects of the intelligence enterprise through active role-playing in simulations and game exercises. The cases cover a wide range of key analytical issues and contexts with an international focus for an innovative text that will suit intelligence training courses at all levels.
