Book Dynamic State Estimation in Power Systems

Download or read book Dynamic State Estimation in Power Systems written by Hamed Tebianian and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research in the area of power system transient stability has recently focused on dynamic state estimation using high rate Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) data. Several mathematical models for synchronous machine are developed and various estimation approaches are proposed for this purpose. In this thesis, the mathematical formulation of nonlinear state space modeling and the principles of Kalman Filter are explained. Extended and Unscented Kalman Filters (EKF and UKF), as two nonlinear estimation methods, are applied for state and parameter estimation in an induction motor. In the next stage, after presenting a thorough explanation about modeling of the synchronous machine, dynamic state estimation is applied on different power system case studies and the results of estimation methods are compared. The simulation results provided in this thesis show the great potential of the proposed estimation approaches for accurately estimating the states of the machine as well as reducing the effect of noise on input signals.

Book Dynamic State Estimation and Control of Power Systems

Download or read book Dynamic State Estimation and Control of Power Systems written by Kianoush Emami and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis reports on an observer based approach, i.e., deterministic functional observer approach and probabilistic unscented Kalman lter and particle lter approaches to the problem of dynamic state estimation (DSE) of generators in power systems. The proposed DSE algorithms presented in this thesis are all decentralized in which only the measurement of the local phasor measurement units (PMUs) installed on the generator busbars are used. Consequently, any change in the power system topology does not aect the DSE process. The performance of the above mentioned probabilistic approaches have been tested on dierent IEEE test systems and are compared when the covariances of the noise in the PMU measurements are altered. Furthermore, in this thesis, application of estimation techniques in load frequency control (LFC) of highly interconnected power systems is investigated. The proposed techniques for LFC are quasi-decentralised since the DSE based controllers need the measurement of tie-line powers (power in the transmission line that connects two dierent power system areas). The analysis and design of LFC controllers presented in this thesis is dierent to traditional methods previously reported in the literature, the method proposed in this thesis considers the entire network topology. The proposed schemes have been implemented on the IEEE 39-bus 10-generator 3-area test system considering noise in the PMU measurements and also generator parameter deviations from nominal values. The proposed probabilistic unscented transform based method, proposed in this thesis for LFC, takes into consideration noise in PMU measurements. Moreover, the advantages of functional observer based method in comparison to traditional state observer based method in LFC are demonstrated in this thesis. The application of DSE to detect faults in dynamical systems is also investigated in this thesis. A functional observer based fault detection technique for dynamical systems with application to wind turbines is proposed. The proposed scheme has the ability to detect faults independent of chosen observer parameters. The theoretical development of the fault detection algorithm and its application to wind turbines is presented in this thesis. The theoretical development presented in this thesis on DSE algorithms and DSE based LFC controllers hinges on the state of the art latest technology available in PMUs to provide synchronized measurements using global positioning system data. The thesis presents a contribution in decentralized estimation of generator states and its utilization in LFC and fault detection.

Book Hierarchical dynamic state estimation for electric power systems

Download or read book Hierarchical dynamic state estimation for electric power systems written by and published by . This book was released on 1903 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Uncertainty and State Estimation of Power Systems

Download or read book Uncertainty and State Estimation of Power Systems written by Gustavo Adolfo Valverde Mora and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolving complexity of electric power systems with higher levels of uncertainties is a new challenge faced by system operators. Therefore, new methods for power system prediction, monitoring and state estimation are relevant for the efficient exploitation of renewable energy sources and the secure operation of network assets. In order to estimate all possible operating conditions of power systems, this Thesis proposes the use of Gaussian mixture models to represent non-Gaussian correlated input variables, such as wind power output or aggregated load demands in the probabilistic load flow problem. The formulation, based on multiple Weighted Least Square runs, is also extended to monitor distribution radial networks where the uncertainty of these networks is aggravated by the lack of sufficient real-time measurements. This research also explores reduction techniques to limit the computational demands of the probabilistic load flow and it assesses the impact of the reductions on the resulting probability density functions of power flows and bus voltages. The development of synchronised measurement technology to support monitoring of electric power systems in real-time is also studied in this work. The Thesis presents and compares different formulations for incorporating conventional and synchronised measurements in the state estimation problem. As a result of the study, a new hybrid constrained state estimator is proposed. This constrained formulation makes it possible to take advantage of the information from synchronised phasor measurements of branch currents and bus voltages in polar form. Additionally, the study is extended to assess the advantages of PMU measurements in multi-area state estimators and it explores a new algorithm that minimises the data exchange between local area state estimators. Finally, this research work also presents the advantages of dynamic state estimators supported by Synchronised Measurement Technology. The dynamic state estimator is compared with the static approach in terms of accuracy and performance during sudden changes of states and the presence of bad data. All formulations presented in this Thesis were validated in different IEEE test systems.

Book Online Neuro adaptive Learning for Power System Dynamic State Estimation

Download or read book Online Neuro adaptive Learning for Power System Dynamic State Estimation written by Rahul Birari and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increased penetration of Distributed Generators (DGs) in the contemporary Power System, having knowledge of rapid Real-Time electro-mechanical Dynamic States has become crucial to ensure the safety and reliability of the grid. In the conventional SCADA based Dynamic State Estimation (DSE) speed was limited by the slow sampling rates (2-4 Hz) so State Estimation was limited to static states such as Voltage and Angle at the buses.
