Book Modeling Water Resources Management at the Basin Level

Download or read book Modeling Water Resources Management at the Basin Level written by Daene C. McKinney and published by IWMI. This book was released on 1999 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is facing severe and growing challenges in maintainig water quality and meeting the rapidly growing demand for water resources. In addition, water used for irrigation, the largest use of water in most developing countries, will likely have to be diverted increasingly to meet the needs of urban areas and industry whilst remaining a prime engine of agricultural growth. Finally, environmental and other in-stream water demands become more important as economies develop. The river basin has been acknowledged to be the appropriate unit of analysis to address these chanllenges facing water resources management: and modeling at this scale can provide essential information for policy makers in their decisions on allication of resources. This paper reviews the state of the art of modeling approaches to integrated water resources management at the river basin scale, with particular focus on the potential of coupled economic hydrologic models, and concludes with directions for future modeling exercises.

Book Optimal Allocation and Use of Water Resources in the Mekong River Basin

Download or read book Optimal Allocation and Use of Water Resources in the Mekong River Basin written by Claudia Ringler and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 2001 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the goals of describing trade-offs and complements in water use and efficient allocation strategies, this study analyzes multi-country and intersectoral water allocation and use at the river basin level. It describes the river basin as a unit of analysis and management, outlines integrated economic-hydraulic water modeling at the basin scale, discusses the valuation of water resources, determines the water availability and use in the Mekong river basin, considers the influence of the Mekong regime, and details a program of optimal allocation. Ringler is affiliated with the International Food Policy Research Institute. No index. Annotation copyrighted by Book News Inc., Portland, OR.

Book The Economic Value of Water

Download or read book The Economic Value of Water written by Diana C. Gibbons and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gibbons examines the water supply problem through five case studies. The problems faced by these regions and the methods suggested to overcome them provide excellent models for the entire United States. The case studies---typically, expanding supplies---but economic efficiency principles lead to emphasizing managing the demand. In many cases, this means reducing demand by raising prices.

Book Transboundary Water Resources Strategies for Regional Security and Ecological Stability

Download or read book Transboundary Water Resources Strategies for Regional Security and Ecological Stability written by Hartmut Vogtmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-02-15 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the sovjet era and since their independence the new Central Asian countries are rebuilding a system of water resources management: an important challenge for the development of the whole region. The NATO workshop held on 25-27 August 2003 by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, Germany and the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science, attended by experts from five Central Asian countries, Russia, six Western European countries, the US and the UNEP offered water engineers and nature scientists as well as economic and political scientists and practitioners from water administrations and international river commissions to meet in Novosibirsk and develop sustainable approaches in the management of Central Asian water resources. This book presents important aspects of transboundary water resources, i.e. the global water crisis: problems and perspectives; regional experiences in solving water problems in Central Asia; problems and management of transboundary water resources; ecological and economic aspects of water management; scientific analysis and tools of water changes; strategic implications of water access arisen during the workshop. A final recommendation in the area of equitable sharing of benefits, monitoring and data collection as well as proposals for Central Asia transboundary waters programme were set in the book as the main result of the meeting.
