Book Modernisation Strategy for National Irrigation Systems in the Philippines

Download or read book Modernisation Strategy for National Irrigation Systems in the Philippines written by Mona Liza F. Delos Reyes and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents documentary evidence of the insufficiency of rehabilitation works to close the gap between the irrigation service and actual area irrigated of publicly funded national irrigation systems in the Philippines. It outlines a methodology for formulating a modernisation plan for national irrigation systems with focus on the mostly ungauged, medium to small canal irrigation systems. The proposed methodology adaptively modified some known modernisation concepts and techniques and integrated them in a more holistic framework in the context of changing weather patterns and river flow regimes. It includes in-depth review of rehabilitation works; system diagnosis; revalidation of design assumptions on percolation and water supply; characterisation of system management, irrigation service and demand; and drawing up of options and a vision for the modernised irrigation systems. Central to the proposed modernisation strategy is the logical coherence among the design of physical structures, system operation and water supply so that improvements of irrigation service are possible. The book discusses the development of the proposed methodology and demonstrates its utility in two case study irrigation systems.

Book Water Resources Systems of the Philippines Modeling Studies

Download or read book Water Resources Systems of the Philippines Modeling Studies written by Guillermo Q. Tabios III and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a number of modeling studies of various water resources systems in the humid tropics and the typical short, steep mountain-to-coast systems in the archipelagic setting of the Philippines. Covering natural and rural systems, urban watersheds and built systems, such as reservoirs and flood control systems, it discusses modeling studies based on pure simulation and combined optimization-simulation. The book offers insights into real-world water resources modeling, and as such is a valuable resource for academics and practitioners in the Philippines, as well as those in other Asian regions with similar water resources systems, and similar issues, problems and concerns.

Book Farmers Organizing Farmers

Download or read book Farmers Organizing Farmers written by C. M. Wijayaratna and published by IWMI. This book was released on 1996 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this research paper is to examine the validity and utility of a comprehensive research methodology in assessing a participatory organizing process of irrigation management transfer. To achieve this objetctive, the paper evaluates the methodologies employed and the results of research conducted by the International Irrigation Management Institute (IIMI), the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) of the Philippines, and collaborating universities in the Philippines to assess the Farmer Irrigators' Organization Program (FIOP) country wide. Three research methodologies were used: (l) Process Documentation Research (PDR); (2) Validation Workshops; and (3) Validation Questionnaire Surveys. The research program was financed by the United Stades Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Accelerated Agricultural Production Program (AAPP). The workshop and the questionnaire survey, on the other hand, were useful in "validating" the PDR findings. Because of the large sample size and the area covered, the analyst could get a better picture of FIOP countrywide. The issues validated through workshops and questionnaire surveys originated from PDR. Thus the validation process was "guided" by the PDR results and was confined to the key issues that emerged from the PDR activity. Hence the validation was a quick process.

Using inter-, multi- and trans-disciplinary approaches, and analysing from various scales - community, local and national governments - the book discusses policies and strategies needed towards achieving water security especially for the poor. Reflective of the complex and urgent water policy and governance issues in many developing countries, the book offers valuable lessons and insights to policy makers, water sector managers, planners and regulators as well as to academics, researchers and students.
