Book Utopia and the Dialectic in Latin American Liberation

Download or read book Utopia and the Dialectic in Latin American Liberation written by Eugene Gogol and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-10-05 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utopia and the Dialectic in Latin American Liberation begins by examining the concept of utopia in Latin American thought, particularly its roots within indigenous emancipatory practice, and suggests that within this concept of utopia can be found a resonance with the dialectic of negativity that Hegel developed under the impact of the French Revolution, further developed by such thinker-activists as Marx, Lenin and Raya Dunayevskaya. From this theoretical-philosophical plane, the study moves to the liberation practices of social movements in recent Latin American history. Movements such as the Zapatistas in Mexico, Indigenous feminism throughout the Americas, and Indigenous struggles in Bolivia and Colombia, are among those taken up--most often in the words of the participants. The study concludes by discussing a dialectic of philosophy and organization in the context of Latin American liberation.

Book Latin America Writes Back

Download or read book Latin America Writes Back written by Emil Volek and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-28 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Latin America has been an important basis for theorizing the postmodern condition and has been the site of some of the most significant contributions to postmodern literature. However, discourses about postmodernity have overwhelmingly been constructed by European and American intellectuals. This book is a groundbreaking collection of essays by Latin American scholars on the theories and practices of postmodernity. It provides an important forum for Latin American intellectuals to shape the debates on postmodernity that are based, to a large degree, on their own cultural and political experiences. Gathering together new and classic essays across a wide range of disciplines and perspectives, this much-needed collection allows some of Latin America's leading cultural critics to write back to their Euro-American counterparts and join the international debate.

Book Dependency Theories in Latin America

Download or read book Dependency Theories in Latin America written by André Magnelli and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-08-12 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a discussion of the origins of Latin American dependency theories and their implications for contemporary social theory. The book explores the conditions of emergence of this intellectual movement, the trajectories of some of its main formulators, as well as the circulation of their ideas, their reception in other contexts, and their influence on other theoretical formulations and problems of the present. The book is aimed at social scientists interested in broadening the scope of social theory towards the Global South, in processes of knowledge circulation between central and semi-peripheral regions, as well as in understanding the problems of dependency, modernisation, and development processes in Latin America. The book can be used both as an introduction to these themes and to delve deeper into specific issues.
