Book excerpt: Voice Rehabilitation: Testing Hypotheses and Reframing Therapy offers a patient-centered, hypothesis-driven framework for clinicians beginning to practice voice rehabilitation as well as practicing clinicians who continue to develop their skills. This valuable resource integrates motor learning theory with the physiological underpinnings of voice production to make the rehabilitation process more accessible and cohesive. Dialogues between the patient and the clinician interwoven with the voice clinician’s internal monologue provide insight into the active clinical reasoning process. A review of the etiologies and physiological changes associated with frequently diagnosed laryngeal pathologies provides a useful reference.

Book excerpt: CURING "INCURABLE" SPASMODIC DYSPHONIAThe Medical Mystery Solved by a Doctor's Natural VoiceTreatment: Direct Voice RehabilitationCuring Hopeless Voices by Direct Voice Rehabilitation or DVR describes Dr. Morton Cooper's groundbreaking, clinically proven direct voice treatment for Spasmodic Dysphonia (SD) and other voice disorders. This book is a journey through today's medical/pharmaceutical complex, which has been using Botox, surgery, and indirect voice or speech therapy to treat SD. Yet in the 135 years since this problem was first diagnosed, medical treatments have not found any cures for this dreaded condition, also known as ''the strangled voice."Medical professionals and academicians are humane, well intentioned, and compassionate in treating SD, but they are on the wrong road. Dr. Cooper is the only doctor in the world reporting and documenting peer-reviewed cures of SD (in 1980 by one of the world's leading speech pathology associations, the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics). He has also published extensively about cures of other voice problems by DVR.Dr. Cooper discovered this remarkable natural, non-medical SD cure after leaving UCLA Medical Center to concentrate on his private practice. His Direct Voice Rehabilitation for SD is a proven alternative to a lifetime use of Botox and also the only treatment that has provided cures. If you have "hopeless" SD or a troubled voice, reading this book will give you invaluable information that could change your life. To see cures of SD by DVR, watch Dr. Coopers DVD entitled "Cures of Spasmodic Dysphonia." Book Manual of Singing Voice Rehabilitation

Download or read book Manual of Singing Voice Rehabilitation written by Leda Scearce and published by Plural Publishing. This book was released on 2016-04-18 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manual of Singing Voice Rehabilitation: A Practical Approach to Vocal Health and Wellness provides speech-language pathologists and singing teachers with the tools to lay the foundation for working with singers who have voice injuries. Singing voice rehabilitation is a hybrid profession that represents a very specific amalgam of voice pedagogy, voice pathology, and voice science. Becoming a singing voice rehabilitation specialist requires in-depth training and thorough preparation across these fields. This text presents a conceptual and practical basis for interacting with singers in an effective and supportive way, identifying factors to address, structuring singing voice rehabilitation sessions, and ensuring that singers are getting adequate exercise while allowing their injuries to heal, as well as resources and materials to provide to singers to optimize the outcome of their rehabilitation. Each chapter exposes readers to important concepts of singing voice rehabilitation and the elements that need to be addressed in the singing voice rehabilitation process, which include medical factors, emotional factors, vocal hygiene, vocal pacing, and vocal coordination and conditioning. This text contains information for developing exercises and interventions to target specific vocal problems and guidance in customizing vocal exercises based on injury, singing style, skill level, professional level, and the particular vocal demands of each singer. Key features include: * Rehabilitation and therapy exercises * Clinical case studies to illustrate real-life examples and practical application While the intended audience for this book is speech-language pathologists and teachers of singing who are accomplished performers, experienced pedagogues, and clinically and scientifically well-informed, there is information herein that will be of value to all singers, physicians interested in learning more about the behavioral side of singing voice rehabilitation, nonsinging speech-language pathologists, or anyone seeking knowledge about singing health, including music educators, music therapists, conductors, vocal coaches, worship leaders, or music directors. Book Voice Disorders and their Management

Download or read book Voice Disorders and their Management written by Margaret Fawcus and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since this book was first published, four years ago, there has been a considerable upsurge of interest in the field of both normal and abnormal voice production. Tangible evidence of this lies in the publication of the Journal of Voice in the United States, and in the UK the formation of the British Voice Association. This organization has attracted an increasing membership from professionals involved in all aspects of voice care and use - actors and singers, laryngologists and speech therapists, teachers and phoneticians. The Association holds regular study days, holds an annual two-day symposium, and publishes a Newsletter which attracts entries from this broad spectrum of professionals. We have also seen an increase in the number of specialist voice clinics, and in the two final chapters in this book a contrast is presented between such a specialist setting and the more typical clinic that operates in the majority of general hospitals. This last chapter now contains a breakdown of voice referrals over an eight-year period, which must represent a unique published study in this country. There still remains, however, little research into the management of voice disorders. There is clearly a need for more efficacy studies into specific treatment methods, and the single case-study designs developed in the field of aphasia would seem to be appropriate here.
