Book ryan plak N Bare Naked Nude

Download or read book ryan plak N Bare Naked Nude written by Ahu Antmen and published by Pera Müzesi. This book was released on 2015-11-24 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. ---- Bare, Naked, Nude: A Story of Modernization in Turkish Painting focuses on the evolution of nude painting as one of the foremost genres alongside portraiture, landscape, and still life in Turkish modern art. The rich diversity of styles represented in the paintings that come together in this exhibition reveal that the nude, far from being a subject for Turkish artists constitutes a means of expression fundamental in the search for form. The most challenging trial for artists in their student years, the human body emerges as a central source of inspiration in both the pursuit for modernist tendencies in Western art and in the efforts to articulate an individual artistic language. The exhibition catalogue, through the essay of the curator, Ahu Antmen and the selected paintings offer us the possibility to envisage the visual adventure behind Turkey’s story of modernization, providing an insight into the formation of artistic identity in the period extending from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic, the challenges of transforming the perception of the female body from a framework of privacy to that of a desexualized object and the connections between the art and the nude in the perception of a modern identity.

Book The Journal of Decorative and Propaganda Arts

Download or read book The Journal of Decorative and Propaganda Arts written by Sibel Bozdoğan and published by . This book was released on 2017-06-15 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This latest volume of the Journal of Decorative and Propaganda Arts explores the role of design and decorative arts in the making of modern Turkey, from the late Ottoman Empire to the middle of the twentieth century. As in many countries outside of western Europe and North America, Turkey's encounter with modernity has largely been the result of an official modernization project "from above." In the absence of the material and social conditions-industrialization, capitalist production, urbanization, and the existence of an autonomous bourgeoisie-that characterized the Western world, elites seeking to modernize Turkey had a strong sense of delayed development and an urgent desire to catch up with the West. This sense of urgency accounts for their reliance on the power of representation, especially visual and material culture, to express modern ideas, institutional reform, national identity, and social progress. The resulting experiments touched virtually every creative field, from architecture, painting, and sculpture to interiors, fashion, textiles, industrial design, photography, and graphic design. Creating a modern national identity for Turkey was a vast undertaking with uneven results. In scrutinizing these efforts through multiple lenses, this vividly illustrated volume presents a particularly compelling example of the belief in the capacity of form to remake content. The contributors include Esra Akcan, Günkut Akın, T. Elvan Altan, Edhem Eldem, Ahmet Ersoy, F. Dilek Himam, Ela Kaçel, Sinan Niyazioğlu, Gülname Turan, and Christopher S. Wilson.

Book Modernisms

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lynn Gumpert
  • Publisher : Hirmer Verlag GmbH
  • Release : 2019
  • ISBN : 9783777433172
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Modernisms written by Lynn Gumpert and published by Hirmer Verlag GmbH. This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modernisms explores art from the 1960s and early '70s from Iran, Turkey, and India via selections from an unparalleled collection at New York University. Featuring new scholar ship and seminal essays, this book also illustrates paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints from these three countries alongside biographical narratives of each Artist.00Modernisms will be the first book to provide a cross-cultural study of works from Iran, Turkey, and India. In so doing, it will illuminate our understanding of modern art created outside the long-dominant North American-Western European axis. With nearly 700 works, the Abby Weed Grey Collection comprises the largest institutional holdings of modern art from Iran and Turkey outside those countries, and the most important trove of modern Indian art in an American university museum. Proposing non-Western art as a critical component of modernity, this publication challenges the long held belief that other modernisms are second-rate.00Exhibition: Grey Art Gallery, New York University, New York, USA (10.09. - 07.12.2019) / The Block Museum of Art, Evanston, USA (21.01. - 05.04.2020).
