Book Forest Mensuration

Download or read book Forest Mensuration written by Anthonie van Laar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-07-20 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Van Laar and Akça’s popular text book, Forest Mensuration, was first published in 1997. Like that first edition, this modern update is based on extensive research, teaching and practical experience in both Europe, and the tropics and subtropics. However, it has also been extensively revised, and now includes chapters on remote sensing and the application of aerial photographs and satellite imagery. The book assumes no advanced knowledge of statistical methods, and combines practical techniques with important historical and disciplinary context. The result is a strong balance between a handbook and a valuable reference.

Book Tree and Forest Measurement

Download or read book Tree and Forest Measurement written by P. W. West and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-10 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forests must be measured if they are to be managed and conserved properly. This book describes the essential principles of modern forest measurement, whether using simple hand-held equipment or sophisticated satellite imagery. It particularly focuses on measuring forest biomass over large forest areas, a key aspect of climate change studies, as well as the volumes of wood that are commercially available. Written in a straightforward style, it will be accessible to anyone who works with forests, from the professional forester to the layperson. It considers not only how and why forests are measured but also the scientific basis of the measurements taken.

Book Tree and Forest Measurement

Download or read book Tree and Forest Measurement written by Phil West and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone who works with forests must measure them, foresters, forestry students, scientists or forest owners. This book summarises modern forest measurement techniques for all those people. It describes how to measure forests, why they are measured and the basis of the science behind the measurements. Trees and forests are large and complex, but even something as difficult as the amount of wood they contain can be measured with quite unsophisticated equipment. This is a book written for all, from professional foresters to the lay person, in fact anyone who needs to measure forests anywhere in the world.

De procedure in gewijzigde vormen werd toegepast op gegevens van de Tsuga hetrophylla. De beschreven procedure blijkt ook voor andere boomsoorten toepasbaar

Book Modelling Forest Development

Download or read book Modelling Forest Development written by Klaus von Gadow and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an lUlffianaged woodland, forest development follows a succession of periods of undisturbed natural growth, interrupted by intermediate loss or damage of trees caused by fire or wind or other natural hazards. In a managed woodland, the most important periodic disturbances are the thinning operations, which are often carried out at regular intervals and which usually have a significant effect on the future evolution of the resource. Thus, a realistic model of forest development includes both natural growth and thinnings. The key to successful timber management is a proper understanding of growth processes, and one of the objectives of modelling forest development is to provide the tools that enable foresters to compare alternative silvicultural treatments. Foresters need to be able to anticipate the consequences of a particular thinning operation. In most cases, total timber volume is not a very appropriate measure for quantifying growth or yields, or changes caused by thinning operations. Yield in economic terms is defined by the dimensions and quality attributes of the harvestable logs, and estimating timber products is a central issue of production-oriented growth and yield research. Introduction 2 Growth modelling is also an essential prerequisite for evaluating the consequences of a particular management action on the future development of an important natural resource, such as a woodland ecosystem.
