Book excerpt: Excerpt from Home Nursing: Modern Scientific Methods for the Care of the Sick Efficiency is the keynote in the work of the world to day, and no other profession is more up to date than the profession of nursing, with its efficient modern methods in the care of the sick, and the alleviation of suffering. In this second edition of A Textbook on Home Nurs ing the author has made every effort to take advantage of the latest knowledge in the science of nursing, without losing sight of the original purpose (as indicated by the title) for which this little book was written. The question of diet, in relation to disease, is an impor tant study, these days; and particular emphasis is laid on the number of calories or heat units required to keep the body in proper condition, so a chapter has been devoted to the special foods that give a right balance in nourishment. A chapter of recipes for invalid cooking will also be found of value when planning the diet list. Outdoor treatment in the cure of disease has proved of enormous value; so the preparation of an outdoor sleep ing bed, methods of ventilation, and fresh air baths, have been described in full. Book Training School Methods for Institutional Nurses Classic Reprint

Download or read book Training School Methods for Institutional Nurses Classic Reprint written by Charlotte Albina Aikens and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-27 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Training School Methods for Institutional Nurses In the preparation of this volume these two types of nurses have been constantly in mind. It is also hoped that the book may prove of practical value to the princi pal who desires to offer some special instruction to senior pupil nurses that will better fit them to effectively carry the responsibility of supervisors, and to measure up to just expectations in institutional work. The book follows the same general plan that was followed in an earlier volume on the same subject but the chapters have been so fully rearranged and rewritten that the book is practically a new volume. Portions of a few of the chapters have appeared in the Trained Nurse and Hospital Review. The author is under obligation to many friends who are active in train ing school work for practical suggestions which have been woven into the pages. Grateful acknowledgment is here made of the inspiration and valuable assistance received from the late Miss Lauder Sutherland, who as principal of the Hartford Hospital Training School was keenly interested in its preparation. Miss E. K. Kraemer, superintendent of the Frederick Ferris Thompson Hospital of Canandaigua, New York. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Nursing Technic These notes have been brought together with the hope that the teaching of the fundamentals of nursing technic may be more nearly standardized in Schools of Nursing. We have sought to place before the students the main objects of any nursing procedure, to induce them to think and plan for the comfort of the patient, and to note the value of the procedure to the patient, together with the mechanical process of getting the materials together, and their proper use. We have devoted much time to the various methods in order to find out those which could be successfully used together with the greatest economy of time, effort and materials. Thanks are especially due Miss Sarah Warwick (de ceased), Miss Myra Tucker, Miss S. Lillian Clayton, Miss Eleanore E. Hamilton, Miss Susan K. Lane, Miss Daisy Urch, and Miss Hattie J. Robinson. These nurses have all been instructors in the Illinois Training School for Nurses, through succeeding years. This book was released on 2017-12-25 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Surgical Nursing and Technique a Book for Nurses, Dressers, House Surgeons, Etc Some small Share in awakening authorities to this crying injustice, and in the amelioration we see coming to the nursing profession in both directions. The Short chapter on nursing in military hospitals has been omitted, as it only dealt in the barest and most perfunctory method with the subject, and no useful purpose would be served by retaining it now. Plates Of the tetanus bacillus and the Bacillus perfringens, which gained such an unenviable notoriety during the war, with short descriptions of them, have been added. Inasmuch as the treatment of the septic wounds of war made such enormous advances, we may expect in the future a great improvement in the treatment of the septic wounds of peace, such as arise from accidents of various kinds, and the bearing of aseptic technique upon these, derived from the war's experience, has been emphasized on many occasions in this edition. I have also introduced the latest informa tion on wound shock, which engaged the attention Of so many investigators during the war, and have drawn attention to its bearing on the incidence and treatment of operative shock and shock following the accidents of civil life. A few modern instruments have been intro duced, and plates of those going or gone out of use have been omitted, and the book has been generally brought up to date. The war has, as might have been expected, furnished great opportunities for surgery, and surgeons and nurses alike will revert to the practice Of civil surgery better equipped in many particulars for the exercise of their calling. I have endeavoured to in dicate these in the present edition. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Suggestions on Home Nursing Classic Reprint

Download or read book Suggestions on Home Nursing Classic Reprint written by Ellen Morris Wood and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-26 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Suggestions on Home Nursing The following notes on nursing have been written at the request of the District Nursing Association of Northern West chester County, fromma course of six lec tures on Home Nursing, given under its auspices. The author finds herself much embarrassed in endeavoring to make a clear and simple statement of the under lying principles of good nursing, as much that is important must be omitted in so short a statement for use in district nursing. No new ideas are advanced in these pages, but it is hoped that by leaving out all tech nical expressions, some of the simplest means of giving help and comfort to the sick which are already well known to trained nurses, may be brought within the reach of those who must care for the sick in their families, without the aid of special training for the work.
