Book Modern Business Correspondence

Download or read book Modern Business Correspondence written by Frank M. Erskine and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-21 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Modern Business Correspondence: A Practical Treatise on the Writing of Business Letters Including Many Exercises in Word Study, Synonyms, Ad Writing, Punctuation, Etc More and more the fact is being recognized that among the chief qualifications of the successful business man is the ability to use plain, clear-cut, but withal graceful and effective English. Commercial English is simply Everyday English coupled with the technic of the office, store or factory. The average text-book is weak on the subject of Correspond ence, and the pupil is required to write letters about a great variety of matters which have no connection with each other, and which frequently concern things so far beyond the scope of his knowledge and experience that he can not comprehend the supposed situation. The result is that many times he makes no point in his letter, because he does not understand what he is writing about, uses a few worn-out phrases and makes several ludicrous errors. Ask the same pupil a few questions about some business or some line of work with which he is familiar and, omitting the Dear Sir and Yours truly, he may give you, orally, a fairly good business letter. Book Studies in Late Modern English Correspondence

Download or read book Studies in Late Modern English Correspondence written by Marina Dossena and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The studies presented in this volume concentrate on aspects of Late Modern English correspondence in the usage of individuals belonging to different social classes, writing for different purposes, and finding themselves in different social contexts, both in Britain and in its colonies. As the growing body of research published in recent years has shown, analysing the language of letters presents both a challenge and an opportunity to obtain access to as full a range of styles as would be possible for a period for which we only have access to the language in its written form. It is an area of study in which all the contributors have considerable expertise, which affords them to present data findings while discussing important methodological issues. In addition, in most cases data derive from specially-designed 'second-generation' corpora, reflecting state-of-the-art approaches to historical sociolinguistics and pragmatics. Theoretical issues concerning letters as a text type, their role in social network analysis, and their value in the identification of register or variety specific traits are highlighted, alongside issues concerning the (often less than easy) relationship between strictly codified norms and actual usage on the part of speakers whose level of education could vary considerably.

Book Campbell s Commercial Correspondence

Download or read book Campbell s Commercial Correspondence written by Harry Dean Campbell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Campbell's Commercial Correspondence: The Art of Modern Business Letter Writing The value of teaching correspondence can hardly be over estimated. The average student detests writing the English language. Composition, rhetoric and the various allied subjects seldom arouse any great interest in any but the exceptional student. Business correspondence, because it is particularly practical, is studied with a great deal of interest by students who for merly had almost an antipathy for any form of composition. The value of interesting the student in any subject is perfectlyobvious. The value of teaching a subject which interests and which offers a field which is far more comprehensive than it at first seems, is of course doubly valuable.
