Book Interventional Treatment of Advanced Ischemic Heart Disease

Download or read book Interventional Treatment of Advanced Ischemic Heart Disease written by Reynolds Delgado and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-21 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced ischemic heart disease is fast becoming one of the most challenging problems facing the modern cardiovascular physician and current established therapies often fail to adequately address this population of patients. As therapy of heart disease evolves, we need to address the challenging questions posed by this clinical problem. Treatment of Advanced Ischemic Heart Disease brings together the most recent advances in surgical techniques, protection of the heart and postoperative care, to aid the study and treatment of these patients who deserve the best that modern medicine can provide them. The diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease and heart failure has now been standardized to the point that there are very well established guidelines promoted by the American Heart Association and The American College of Cardiology. This text will pick up where the guidelines leave off and address the real challenge of patients with advanced ischemic heart disease. Though therapy is clearly challenging, new advances are making effective therapy of these patients truly possible. This text embodies that notion. Finally, there is much still to learn about the basic mechanisms of the progression of heart failure due to coronary artery disease and how best to assess these therapeutic options. The text will address these with a focus on treatment so that it may be a practical reference for the practicing clinician as well as the basic or clinical researcher and student.

Download or read book Silent Ischemia written by T. v. Arnim and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Silent Ischemia, Current Concepts and Management" contains the proceedings of a conference held in Rottach-Egern, West Germany, March 5 to 7, 1987. We are most grateful to the authors for the effort to provide manuscripts before the meeting, to the sponsor, Bayer AG, for their generous support and to the publishers for their efficient collaboration, all of which have made the appearance of this book possible. When discussing silent myocardial ischemia, the first question is: "why is it silent?". To approach this question, a deeper look has to be taken into the pathophysiology of cardiac pain and the excitatory and inhibitory mechanisms involved. It has to be borne in mind that - in contradiction to what the poets have told us so beautifully for many centuries - the heart is a visceral and not a sensitive organ. If asymptomatic ischemia did not carry prognostic significance comparable to the symp tomatic manifestations of ischemia, then the problem of silent ischemia would be very academic and without consequences for treatment. Therefore studies on prognosis of silent ischemia are of great importance, as their results should indicate how aggressively patients are to be managed.

Book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 5

Download or read book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 5 written by Dorairaj Prabhakaran and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 948 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiovascular, respiratory, and related conditions cause more than 40 percent of all deaths globally, and their substantial burden is rising, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Their burden extends well beyond health effects to include significant economic and societal consequences. Most of these conditions are related, share risk factors, and have common control measures at the clinical, population, and policy levels. Lives can be extended and improved when these diseases are prevented, detected, and managed. This volume summarizes current knowledge and presents evidence-based interventions that are effective, cost-effective, and scalable in LMICs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiovascular disease is ranked as the leading cause of death world wide, responsible for 17.1 million deaths globally each year. Such numbers are often difficult to comprehend. Heart disease kills one person every 34 seconds in the USA alone. Although the leading killer, the incidence of cardiovascular disease has declined in recent years due to a better understanding of the pathology, implementation of lipid lowering therapy new drug regimens including low molecular weight heparin and antiplatelet drugs such as glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor inhibitors and acute surgical intervention. The disease burden has a great financial impact on global healthcare systems and major economic consequences for world economies. This text aims to deliver the current understanding of coronary artery disease and is split into three main sections: 1. Epidemiology and pathophysiology of coronary artery disease 2. Coronary artery disease diagnostics and 3. Treatment regimens for coronary artery disease

Book Contemporary Concepts in Cardiology

Download or read book Contemporary Concepts in Cardiology written by Richard Gorlin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the era of instant global communication, medicine is an international discipline characterized by a wide range of patient referral systems, world-wide discussion of clinical and research findings, and an explosion in the medical literature. Perhaps no field has progressed more than cardiology in the past few years. Contemporary Concepts in Cardiology has been conceived as a supplement to the classic cardiology textbooks for the use of practicing physicians, cardiologists-in-training, medical students, and research investigators. This volume focuses on associations between refinements in the understanding of disease and clinical applications. The material is presented in a way that limns the latest advances and focuses thinking towards future developments in cardiology. The Editors have assembled a respected international panel of contributors so that each chapter is authored by a well-known specialist in his or her field. Every attempt was made to avoid the fragmentation which often characterizes the digest approach. Because the constant flow of information makes it nearly impossible to construct a timely book on advances in cardiology, the chapters in this volume describe the current concepts in cardiology and their underlying rationale, rather than attempting a comprehensive review of the most recent papers in each discipline.
