Book Modern Concepts of Security

Download or read book Modern Concepts of Security written by James Ohwofasa Akpeninor and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-02-04 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have been associated with the security operations at various levels of jurisdictions from the National security policing (covert operations) to the Industrial/Commercial security setup; to Corporations proprietary security practice and supervision over the past three decades. In this stretch, I have come to be conscious of the vital necessity for comprehensive documentation of security and safety archetypes for the study of this unique profession in which reference materials for developing core and universal curricula for training or self improvement of security operatives are hard to come by. Mainly because most law enforcement agents or persons charged with security managements Law enforcement officers; Security Directors, Fire Safety Directors, the police and even Contract Security firms have hardly come to terms with the professional demands of this specialized professional calling which has assumed the centre stage of global reckoning of the present-day. With these concerns, I have designed this book to be a working companion to personnel and agencies in the security professional vocation along with students of peace and conflicts studies; criminology and security studies the Armed forces personnel and other National Security Agents (DSS, DIA, NIA, NAFDAC, NDLEA, etc.); the Para-military (Police, ICPC, EFCC, Customs & Excise and Immigrations departments, FRSC, NCDC, NEMA and a host of others). In essence, modern security outlook incorporates the Human Security schools of thought which is all about the practice of holistic and global security that is a shift from the traditional conception of National Security (a state-centred approach) to focus on the wellbeing of individuals, which is yet to be cultivated in the African continent resulting in enduring problems of disease, poverty, security adversities, violence and insurgences, human rights abuses and civil strives. The reference volumes afford abundant valuable materials on modern concepts of security meant to offer sound basic knowledge for security practitioners, contract security firms as well as for individual reading to boost security consciousness of the entire public which can be adapted, modified, rejected or used for the reader's own purposes. I therefore entrust this book to the kind consideration of security practitioners and managers in general, especially the certified national and international security and law enforcement professionals. I hope that the contents will be of material benefit to the entire security community because it is only when knowledge is applied specifically to the needs of a particular skill that it becomes of true value. Therein lays the reader's part.

Book Modern Electricity Systems

Download or read book Modern Electricity Systems written by Vivek Bhandari and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-08-08 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Electricity Systems A welcome textbook instructing on many current aspects of energy generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption The importance of a well-informed group of individuals in charge of energy production and use is essential to create a sustainable and greener tomorrow. Technologies and costs are rapidly changing, and environmental goals widely debated in this book. The future of energy is at a crossroads. In addition, energy and technology poverty affects as much as 25% of the world’s population. Having the correct set of “tools”—a basic understanding of modern electrical systems—is essential, not just for engineers but for our leaders and decision-makers. With decades of experience in industry and academia behind them, the team of authors in Modern Electricity Systems offers a “toolbox” from which the reader will learn what is essential to make informed decisions. As such, this textbook provides an introduction to the fundamentals of how electricity is generated, financed, regulated, rationed, and stored – with consideration not just of the current status of these issues but a glance at what the next decade may hold. Without this basic level of comprehension, the growing global impact and social issues can be discussed and advocated for, but real change in this sector can only be achieved through understanding the systems. Modern Electricity Systems readers will also find: Support to create a course on energy transition and energy policy for sustainable development International modern day case studies, that represent the most current and essential topics, to illustrate key concepts, as well as ones focused on the United States Sample problem sets that bring together essential ideas learned from each chapter A textbook written by a team of working professionals with international experience in real-world applications of policy, engineering, and operations Modern Electricity Systems is a helpful reference for graduate and advanced undergraduate students and researchers, policymakers, environmentalists, humanitarians, business leaders, and decision-makers in all three sectors of electricity operations, engineering, and policy matters.

Book Outlines of Electricity and Magnetism

Download or read book Outlines of Electricity and Magnetism written by Charles A. Perkins and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-23 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Outlines of Electricity and Magnetism It is not possible for an elementary text-book to be up to date. Before any theory is sufficiently established to find a place there, new views are already appearing, modifying our ideas. At the same time the changes in the modern conception of electrical action demand more recognition than has been given them. Since the student must necessarily form some definite idea as to how such actions take place, it is important that these ideas should be, from the very first, in accordance with the best theories. No subsequent effort can take the place of correct initial conceptions. This book makes no claim to be a complete treatise. While adapted to somewhat elementary courses, I hope it may also serve as a clear and logical syllabus for more advanced ones. Although much has been omitted that many would wish to include, I believe that I have included little that any would wish to omit. Book The Nature of Matter and Electricity

Download or read book The Nature of Matter and Electricity written by Daniel F. Comstock and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Nature of Matter and Electricity: An Outline of Modern Views Something must be said in explanation of the arrange ment of the book. It consists of two parts, the first giving a rapid survey of the entire subject, outlining the fundamental conceptions and emphasizing their most significant applications only, While the second retraces the same general field in a slower and less connected way, in order to consider details omitted in the more cursory treatment. The second part is divided into fifty six sections, each of which is numbered and referred to by its number in the appropriate connection in Part I. The book may be read in various ways according to the purposes or pleasure of the reader. If he is interested only to acquaint himself with the fundamentals of the modern theory through a quick, general sketch he may read Part I continuously and omit Part II altogether. If, on the other hand, he is already familiar with these essentials he may prefer to reverse the procedure and omit Part I. Part II although definitely divided by topics nevertheless forms a fairly continuous discussion. In general, however, the best method of using the book will probably be to read both of the sections in parallel, refer ring to each Section in Part II as its number appears in the text of the first part. It is believed that this method of study will encourage the type of attitude whichlis tequired to give the subject the greatest clearness in the reader's mind. It is obvious that the structure of Part II permits its ready use for purposes of Special reference, such as may arise, for example, in connection with school courses in elementary physics and chemistry. The basis of Part I is to be found in a series of articles contributed in 1911 by D. F. Comstock to the Science Conspectus, the journal of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Society of Arts. Somewhat to his surprise, there was a Wide demand from various sources for fur ther copies of these articles, and hence it seemed worth while to publish them in book form, together with a more complete discussion of the same subject. The articles have been amplified and brought up to date by their original author. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
