Book Linearized Analysis of One Dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic Flows

Download or read book Linearized Analysis of One Dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic Flows written by Roy M. Gundersen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-09 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Magnetohydrodynamics is concerned with the motion of electrically conducting fluids in the presence of electric or magnetic fields. Un fortunately, the subject has a rather poorly developed experimental basis and because of the difficulties inherent in carrying out controlled laboratory experiments, the theoretical developments, in large measure, have been concerned with finding solutions to rather idealized problems. This lack of experimental basis need not become, however, a multi megohm impedance in the line of progress in the development of a satisfactory scientific theory. While it is true that ultimately a scientific theory must agree with and, in actuality, predict physical phenomena with a reasonable degree of accuracy, such a theory must be sanctioned by its mathematical validity and consistency. Physical phenomena may be expressed precisely and quite comprehensively through the use of differential equations, and the equations formulated by LUNDQUIST and discussed by FRIEDRICHS belong to a class of equations particularly well-understood and extensively studied. This class includes, in fact, many other eminent members, the solutions of which have led to results of far-reaching scientific and technological application. Frequently, the mathematical analysis has provided the foundations and guidance necessary for further developments, and, reciprocally, the physical problems have provided, in many cases, the impetus for the development of new mathematical theories which often have evolved to an a priori unpredictable extent.

Book The Structure of Shock Waves in Magnetohydrodynamics

Download or read book The Structure of Shock Waves in Magnetohydrodynamics written by Mahmud Hesaaraki and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1984 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the presence of magnetic induction and electrical fields several types of discontinuities may exist in an electrically conducting fluid. These phenomena can be described by the laws of conservation of mass, momentum, and energy; Maxwell's electromagnetic equations, and Ohm's law. Those discontinuities, which can be characterized by the conditions that both the temperature and density change across them are different from zero, are called magneto-hydrodynamic shock waves. This monograph is concerned with the study of these types of discontinuities.

Book Magnetohydrodynamic Shock Waves

Download or read book Magnetohydrodynamic Shock Waves written by J. Edward Anderson and published by Mit Press. This book was released on 2003-02 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies based on the Rankine-Hugoniot relations have classified MHO shock waves as fast, switch-on, intermediate, switch-off, and slow. Any waves found in nature must also: (a) possess steady-state structures and (b) be stable in the presence of small-flow disturbances. In this monograph, Dr. Anderson examines these criteria in relation to plane shocks for which the collision frequency is large compared with cyclotron frequency. It contains a three-dimensional graphic representation of shock end states and presents an exact solution for the shock adiabatic curve in a convenient form. An MIT Press Research Monograph.

Book Magnetohydrodynamics Waves and Shock Waves in Curved Space Time

Download or read book Magnetohydrodynamics Waves and Shock Waves in Curved Space Time written by A. Lichnerowicz and published by Springer. This book was released on 1994-04-30 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a unified theory of shock waves corresponding to gravitational and electromagnetic fields and to magnetohydrodynamics in the context of general relativity. The common tool employed is provided by tensor distribution -- an approach which has been systematically developed by the author since 1962. One remarkable result is that this yields a complete theory of magnetohydrodynamic shock waves, which can also be applied to the treatment of pulsars. The same method is also applicable to the quantization of some physical fields in curved space-time. This, too, is discussed in the book. For graduate students and researchers in mathematical physics and theoretical astrophysics.

Book Shock bounded Self similar Flows with Volumetric Mass Momentum and Energy Addition

Download or read book Shock bounded Self similar Flows with Volumetric Mass Momentum and Energy Addition written by Harold Mirels and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-similar flows with volumetric mass, momentum, and energy addition are investigated. Unsteady flows bounded by shock waves and equivalent steady hypersonic flows over slender bodies are considered, and the form of the shock shape and of the volumetric sources for self-similar motion are noted. For unsteady flows, it is found that the shock shape mu t have the form R sub O=ct to the m power (where R sub O = shock ordinate, t = time) and that the mass, momentum, and energ sources must be expressible in the fom of a funtion of r/R sub O times t to the -1 power, t to the m-2 power, and t to the 2m-3 power, respectively (where r is the lateral ordinate). If the sources introduce only sll perturbations in an otherwise self-similar flow, solutions can be obtained for sources expressible as a function of r/R sub O times t to arbitrary constant exponents. Thus, the small perturbation case is less restrictive with regard to the functional form of the sources. For equivalent steady hypersonic flows, the streamwise distance, x, replaces t in the above expressions. Numerical perturbation solutions are obtained for the effect of a uniform transverse magnetic field on piston-driven flows and blast waves. The firstorder effect of body-thickness raio on the hypersonic flow (in the limit of infinite Mach number) over slender power law bodies is aso reated. (Author).
