Book Models of the Trapped Radiation Environment Volume I Inner Zone Protons and Electrons

Download or read book Models of the Trapped Radiation Environment Volume I Inner Zone Protons and Electrons written by James I. Vette and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Space systems planners--space engineers as well as physicists--require for their work accurate values of the fluxes and energy spectra of protons and electrons trapped in the geomagnetic field. Numerous measurements have been made of the Van Allen belt radiations on many satellites, with different instruments and at different times. Most of the experimenters organize their data in terms of McIlwain's B, L coordinates, but intercomparison of the results from different experiments is still complicated by temporal variations of the fluxes and differences in energy response of the various instruments used to obtain the data. A need existed, therefore, for collating the individual measurements and for constructing a model environment. This report contains a description of the model which has been developed for the inner radiation belt. The graphs in this report give a picture of the radiations; card decks containing the actual flux values have also been prepared and can be used in subroutines of larger computer programs. In addition, codes have been developed for integrating the flux along satellite orbits.

A need existed, therefore, for collating the individual measurements and for constructing a model environment. In the NASA report SP-3024, Volume I, (AD-659 722) a description was published of the inner radiation belt. The purpose of this report (Volume II) is to update the electron environment in the inner belt and to extend it out to L = 6. In addition, codes have been developed for integrating the flux along satellite orbits.

This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 937 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the review papers presented at the International Symposium on Solar-Terrestrial Physics held at the Tavrichesky Palace, Leningrad, U.S.S.R., 11-19 May 1970. The Symposium may be regarded as the most recent member of a series of inter national symposia - for instance, the Symposium on Solar-Terrestrial Physics, Belgrade (1966), the Joint IQSY-COSPAR Symposium on Solar-Terrestrial Physics, London (1967), and the Symposium on the Physics of the Magnetosphere, Washington (1968). Like those earlier symposia, the Leningrad Symposium was sponsored by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), the International Union of Radio Sciences (URSI), and the ICSU Committee on Space Research (COSPAR). These bodies are all concerned with one or another aspect of solar-terrestrial physics, and all joined in believing that the time was ripe for another comprehensive symposium on all aspects of this very active field of research.
