Book Demand Driven Approaches in Vocational Education and Training

Download or read book Demand Driven Approaches in Vocational Education and Training written by Muthuveeran Ramasamy and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-09 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Muthuveeran Ramasamy shows that the formal way of vocational education and training (VET) in rural areas often ignores the illiterate, the less educated, and the poor. The author demonstrates that VET programs need to be demand-driven and consider the socio-economic aspects of particular regions. Therefore, the significance of the study at grassroots level helps customize VET programs to respond to the demand of the individuals’ vocational training needs of rural people by keeping their endogenous needs at the centre of vocational skill development processes. The findings and lessons learnt from action research are also intensively discussed as guiding principles of demand-driven approaches from the learners’/societal perspectives.

As the Fourth Industrial Revolution continues to create more radical changes in the labor market, experts are calling for a reform of education, including vocational education and training and adult and professional education. New Models for Technical and Vocational Education and Training is an essential scholarly research book that examines TVET and CET colleges and programs that provide intermediate skills to enhance students’ chances of employability and entrepreneurship in Industry 4.0. The book explores knowledge in respect to workforce preparation, digital skills development, teaching and learning of TVET, flexibility and articulation of TVET to respond to work-integrated learning, and reskilling and upskilling to avoid skill mismatches. It is ideal for TVET schools, academicians, curriculum designers, managers, training officers, administrators, vocational professionals, researchers, and students.

Book Vocational Education and Training in Small Rural School Communities

Download or read book Vocational Education and Training in Small Rural School Communities written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study documented factors associated with the operation of vocational education and training (VET) in small rural schools and their communities. Case studies of 14 schools with high-quality VET practices identified important facilitators of course development: formal commitment to the VET programs within the school's objectives; role of leadership in schools, training providers, employers, and the community; degree of organizational support, school's past experience of success; availability of physical, staffing, and community-based resources; and commitment to partnerships. Barriers were keeping up-to-date with information about and understanding of VET issues; availability of work placements; travel issues; teachers' perceptions of centralized control of curriculum; inflexible internal organization of schools; availability of staffing and other resources; and cluster coordination. The study identified the significance of partnerships. Particular school-industry partnerships are mentioned in the provision of work placements. The schools reported substantial developments in their VET programs in recent years. Implications were developed as recommendations for state and federal policy, school practice and further research, and more long-term planning and cooperative effort to maximize opportunities for students and reduce duplication of efforts. The 37-page report is followed by the case studies. (YLB)
