Book Models for Public Systems Analysis

Download or read book Models for Public Systems Analysis written by Edward J. Beltrami and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-17 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Models for Public Systems Analysis considers the mathematical model formulation to improve the delivery of urban service systems, such as sanitation, fire, police, and ambulances. This book is composed of five chapters that demonstrate the translation of significant societal problems into a mathematical framework, as well as the advantages and limitations of these models. Chapter 1 deals with the issue of plant location and siting questions, with a brief overview of water resource modeling, while Chapter 2 provides set-covering models for manpower scheduling as a direct outgrowth of the author's experience with the Sanitation Department in New York City. Chapters 3 and 4 describe the delivery of emergency services, particularly with models of congestion and delay and of optimal deployment. These chapters also present probabilistic analysis in nature since both the spatial and the temporal patterns of demand are intrinsically uncertain. The tools used are queueing theory and geometric probability. Chapter 5 examines network optimization methods, mainly to explore questions of vehicle routing and scheduling. This chapter also provides a few comments on large-scale models of urban growth, these being generally more familiar to the regional planner then to the operations analyst. This book will prove useful to applied mathematics and policy science students.

Book Public Systems Modeling

Download or read book Public Systems Modeling written by Daniel P. Loucks and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-16 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access book discusses readers to various methods of modeling plans and policies that address public sector issues and problems. Written for public policy and social sciences students at the upper undergraduate and graduate level, as well as public sector decision-makers, it demonstrates and compares the development and use of various deterministic and probabilistic optimization and simulation modeling methods for analyzing planning and management issues. These modeling tools offer a means of identifying and evaluating alternative plans and policies based on their physical, economic, environmental, and social impacts. Learning how to develop and use the mathematical modeling tools introduced in this book will give students useful skills when in positions of having to make informed public policy recommendations or decisions.

Book Research in Systems Analysis and Design Models and Methods

Download or read book Research in Systems Analysis and Design Models and Methods written by Stanisław Wrycza and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-12-02 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the proceedings of the 4th EuroSymposium on Systems Analysis and Design, SIGSAND/PLAIS 2011, held in Gdańsk, Poland, in September 2011. The objective of this symposium is to promote and develop high-quality research on all issues related to systems analysis and design (SAND). It provides a forum for SAND researchers and practitioners in Europe and beyond to interact, collaborate, and develop their field. The 9 papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 20 submissions. An additional revision took place after the conference to incorporate discussion results from the presentation. The contributions are organized into topical sections on business process modeling, integrated systems development, and software development.

Book Systems Analysis in Urban Policy Making and Planning

Download or read book Systems Analysis in Urban Policy Making and Planning written by Bruce Hutchinson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 605 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In September 1980, the Special Programme Panel on Systems Sciences of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) sponsored an Advanced Research Institute (ARI) on "Systems Analysis in Urban Policy-Making and Planning" which was held at New College, Univer sity of Oxford, from 21st to 27th September. This week-long meeting brought together 35 invited delegates from most countries of the NATO Alliance to discuss the impact which syst~ms analysis has had and is likely to have on urban affairs. The manuscript was submitted to the publisher in June of 1982. Although the goal of the ARI was to assess the impact of urban systems analysis as seen through the eyes of those closely involved in such work, the meeting also addressed opportunities for future research and development, and therefore in this book we have attempted to synthesize discussions at the meeting with this in mind. But before we describe the structure of this book, it is worth recounting in a little more detail the intentions and organi zation of the meeting, for this has had an important effect on the type of papers produced here, the way they have been written, and the issues they address.

Book Applied Systems Analysis

Download or read book Applied Systems Analysis written by F. P. Tarasenko and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Systems Analysis: Science and Art of Solving Real-Life Problems Subject Guide: Engineering – Industrial and Manufacturing Any activity is aimed at solving certain problems, which means transferring a system from an existing unsatisfactory problematic state to a desired state. The success or failure of the system depends on how its natural properties were implemented during the planning of improvement and intervention state. This book covers the theory and experience of successfully solving problems in a practical and general way. This book includes a general survey of modern systems analysis; offers several original results; presents the latest methodological and technological results of the theory of systems; introduces achievements; and discusses the transition from the ideology of the machine age to the ideology of the systems age. This book will be of interest to both professionals and academicians.
