Book Modelling the Plastic Deformation of Iron

Download or read book Modelling the Plastic Deformation of Iron written by Zhiming Chen and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2014-07-31 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1/2111 screw dislocations in bcc iron are studied by atomistic simulations. An analytical yield criterion captures correctly the non-Schmid plastic behavior. A model Peierls potential develops a link between the atomistic modeling at 0 K and the thermally activated dislocation motion. All predicted features agree well with experimental observations. This work establishes a consistent bottom-up model that provides an insight into the microscopic origins of the plastic behavior of bcc iron.

Book Testing of the Plastic Deformation of Metals

Download or read book Testing of the Plastic Deformation of Metals written by T. W. Clyne and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-10 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover a novel, self-contained approach to an important technical area, providing both theoretical background and practical details. Coverage includes mechanics and physical metallurgy, as well as study of both established and novel procedures such as indentation plastometry. Numerical simulation (FEM modelling) is explored thoroughly, and issues of scale are discussed in depth. Discusses procedures designed to explore plasticity under various conditions, and relates sample responses to deformation mechanisms, including microstructural effects. Features references throughout to industrial processing and component usage conditions, to a wide range of metallic alloys, and to effects of residual stresses, anisotropy and inhomogeneity within samples. A perfect tool for materials scientists, engineers and researchers involved in mechanical testing (of metals), and those involved in the development of novel materials and components.

Book Severe Plastic Deformation Techniques

Download or read book Severe Plastic Deformation Techniques written by Marcello Cabibbo and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-08-09 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grain size is recognized as a key microstructural factor affecting mechanical and, to some extent, physical properties of metals and metallic materials. For this reason, all the means designed to control and modify the grain size are considered a proper way to design and tailor metallic materials with desired properties. In this sense, microstructure refinement through severe plastic deformation (SPD) techniques can be considered a key method for this purpose. A typical SPD process is currently defined as any method of metal forming under extensive hydrostatic pressure intended to impose a very high strain on a bulk solid without involving any significant change in the overall dimensions and having the ability to produce exceptional grain refinement. What makes SPD processing techniques so popular and attractive is the possibility of using them to enhance the strength behavior of conventional metallic materials by a factor of up to eight for pure metals such as copper and by some 30-50% for alloys. Despite the impressive property improvement achievable with SPD techniques, their uptake by industry has been rather sluggish. This book intends to give a panorama of the typical SPD techniques intended to optimize the mechanical and physical properties of metals through a significant grain size reduction process. Modeling for this purpose is also presented.

Book Plastic Deformation and Strain Hardening

Download or read book Plastic Deformation and Strain Hardening written by P.O. Kettunen and published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd. This book was released on 2003-03-01 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication is based upon lectures given during a well-received course on physical metallurgy and originally intended for students specializing in fields related to metallic materials. But, as the author points out, metallic materials are the most widely investigated group of materials and their study therefore gives a good basis for understanding how other materials can be made to reveal interrelationships between their structures and properties; especially with regard to those properties associated with strain. Similar types of rule can then be applied to other materials, in spite of their apparent differences.
