Book Modelling Target Areas for Short Term Interest Rates

Download or read book Modelling Target Areas for Short Term Interest Rates written by Gustavo Adolfo Junca Rodriguez and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This article presents a short-term interest rate monetary model; it generalises Junca and Rodriacute;guez's interest rate formation model and captures the exogenous and endogenous factors determining monetary supply and short-term interest rate behaviour. Short-term interest rate rises with increased expectations of future inflation, external interest rate and future short-term interest-rate expectations. The model shows that a policy for controlling the amount of money could stabilise the short-term rate, as well as other interest rates.

Book excerpt: Interest rate modeling and the pricing of related derivatives remain subjects of increasing importance in financial mathematics and risk management. This book provides an accessible introduction to these topics by a step-by-step presentation of concepts with a focus on explicit calculations. Each chapter is accompanied with exercises and their complete solutions, making the book suitable for advanced undergraduate and graduate level students. This second edition retains the main features of the first edition while incorporating a complete revision of the text as well as additional exercises with their solutions, and a new introductory chapter on credit risk. The stochastic interest rate models considered range from standard short rate to forward rate models, with a treatment of the pricing of related derivatives such as caps and swaptions under forward measures. Some more advanced topics including the BGM model and an approach to its calibration are also covered.

Book A Model of Target Changes and the Term Structure of Interest Rates

Download or read book A Model of Target Changes and the Term Structure of Interest Rates written by Pierluigi Balduzzi and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We explore the effects of official targeting policy on the term-structure of nominal interest rates, adapting relevant insights from theoretical work on "peso problems" to account for realistic infrequency of target changes. Our analysis of daily U.S. interest rates and newly available historical targets provides an interpretation for persistent spreads between short-term money-market rates and overnight fed-funds targets, and for the poor performance of expectations-hypothesis tests: it is the policy-induced component of fed funds dynamics that appears to be erroneously anticipated by the market. Still, allowance for serial correlation in target changes makes it possible to extract from interest-rate data an expected-knoll series which is quite consistent with the assumptions of the model, indicating that some features of the interest-rate-targeting process are incorporated by market expectations.

Book Interest Rate Targeting and the Dynamics of Short Term Rates

Download or read book Interest Rate Targeting and the Dynamics of Short Term Rates written by Pierluigi Balduzzi and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We explore the link between the overnight fed funds rate, which is actively targeted by the Federal Reserve, and longer-maturity term fed funds rates. We develop a term-structure model which explicitly accounts for interest rate targeting and for the predictability of future target changes. The model is able to replicate some qualitative features of the dynamic behavior of deviations of short-term rates from the target.

Book Modeling and Visualization of Complex Systems and Enterprises

Download or read book Modeling and Visualization of Complex Systems and Enterprises written by William B. Rouse and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explains multi-level models of enterprise systems and covers modeling methodology This book addresses the essential phenomena underlying the overall behaviors of complex systems and enterprises. Understanding these phenomena can enable improving these systems. These phenomena range from physical, behavioral, and organizational, to economic and social, all of which involve significant human components. Specific phenomena of interest and how they are represented depend on the questions of interest and the relevant domains or contexts. Modeling and Visualization of Complex Systems and Enterprises examines visualization of phenomena and how understanding the relationships among phenomena can provide the basis for understanding where deeper exploration is warranted. The author also reviews mathematical and computational models, defined very broadly across disciplines, which can enable deeper understanding. Presents a 10 step methodology for addressing questions associated with the design or operation of complex systems and enterprises Examines six archetypal enterprise problems including two from healthcare, two from urban systems, and one each from financial systems and defense systems Provides an introduction to the nature of complex systems, historical perspectives on complexity and complex adaptive systems, and the evolution of systems practice Modeling and Visualization of Complex Systems and Enterprises is written for graduate students studying systems science and engineering and professionals involved in systems science and engineering, those involved in complex systems such as healthcare delivery, urban systems, sustainable energy, financial systems, and national security.

Book Lower Bound Beliefs and Long Term Interest Rates

Download or read book Lower Bound Beliefs and Long Term Interest Rates written by Christian Grisse and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2017-03-22 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We study the transmission of changes in the believed location of the lower bound to longterm interest rates since the introduction of negative interest rate policies. The expectations hypothesis of the term structure combined with a lower bound on policy rates suggests that normal policy transmission is reduced when policy rates approach this lower bound. We show that if market participants revise downward the believed location of the lower bound, this may in itself reduce long-term yields. Moreover, normal policy transmission to long-term rates increases. A cross-country event study suggests that such effects have been empirically relevant during the recent negative interest rate episode.

Book excerpt: Whether you are a seasoned professional looking to explore new areas within the alternative investment arena or a new industry participant seeking to establish a solid understanding of alternative investments, Alternative Investments: An Allocator's Approach, Fourth Edition (CAIA Level II curriculum official text) is the best way to achieve these goals. In recent years, capital formation has shifted dramatically away from public markets as issuers pursue better financial and value alignment with ownership, less onerous and expensive regulatory requirements, market and information dislocation, and liberation from the short-term challenges that undergird the public capital markets. The careful and informed use of alternative investments in a diversified portfolio can reduce risk, lower volatility, and improve returns over the long-term, enhancing investors' ability to meet their investment outcomes. Alternative Investments: An Allocator's Approach (CAIA Level II curriculum official text) is a key resource that can be used to improve the sophistication of asset owners and those who work with them. This text comprises the curriculum, when combined with supplemental materials available at caia.org, for the CAIA Level II exam. "Over the course of my long career one tenet has held true, 'Continuing Education'. Since CalSTRS is a teachers' pension plan, it is no surprise that continuing education is a core attribute of our Investment Office culture. Overseeing one of the largest institutional pools of capital in the world requires a cohesive knowledge and understanding of both public and private market investments and strategies. We must understand how these opportunities might contribute to delivering on investment outcomes for our beneficiaries. Alternative Investments: An Allocator's Approach is the definitive core instruction manual for an institutional investor, and it puts you in the captain's chair of the asset owner." —Christopher J. Ailman, Chief Investment Officer, California State Teachers’ Retirement System "Given their diversified cash flow streams and returns, private markets continue to be a growing fixture of patient, long-term portfolios. As such, the need to have proficiency across these sophisticated strategies, asset classes, and instruments is critical for today's capital allocator. As a proud CAIA charterholder, I have seen the practical benefits in building a strong private markets foundation, allowing me to better assist my clients." —Jayne Bok, CAIA, CFA, Head of Investments, Asia, Willis Tower Watson

Book Estimating Parameters of Short Term Real Interest Rate Models

Download or read book Estimating Parameters of Short Term Real Interest Rate Models written by Mr.Vadim Khramov and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2013-10-17 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper sheds light on a narrow but crucial question in finance: What should be the parameters of a model of the short-term real interest rate? Although models for the nominal interest rate are well studied and estimated, dynamics of the real interest rate are rarely explored. Simple ad hoc processes for the short-term real interest rate are usually assumed as building blocks for more sophisticated models. In this paper, parameters of the real interest rate model are estimated in the broad class of single-factor interest rate diffusion processes on U.S. monthly data. It is shown that the elasticity of interest rate volatility—the relationship between the volatility of changes in the interest rate and its level—plays a crucial role in explaining real interest rate dynamics. The empirical estimates of the elasticity of the real interest rate volatility are found to be about 0.5, much lower than that of the nominal interest rate. These estimates show that the square root process, as in the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross model, provides a good characterization of the short-term real interest rate process.

Book Econometric Models of the Euro area Central Banks

Download or read book Econometric Models of the Euro area Central Banks written by Gabriel Fagan and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a description of the main macroeconomic models used by the European Central Bank and the euro area national central banks (Eurosystem). These models are used to help prepare economic projections and scenario analysis for individual countries and the euro area as a whole. The volume takes stock of the current macroeconometric modelling infrastructure available within the Eurosystem, highlighting not only the structures and main features of the models used but also their purposes and underlying model-building philosophies. A bird s eye view of the key details of the design, structure and characteristics of the models is provided, along with information on the responses of these models to a series of standard economic and policy shocks. This is the first time that a comprehensive description and systematic comparison of the main macroeconomic models has been published. This book will be of great interest to Central Bank and government economists, as well as academics, economists and students with an interest in central banking, econometric modelling, forecasting and macroeconomic policy.

Book Macroeconometric Models and European Monetary Union

Download or read book Macroeconometric Models and European Monetary Union written by Ullrich Heilemann and published by Duncker & Humblot. This book was released on 2004-02-02 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the contributions of a conference dealing with the consequences of the European Monetary Union for the macroeconometric modelling of the Euro area, which took place in Essen in 2000. At the end of the conference the participants were convinced that the discussions including a great variety of theoretical, methodical and factual aspects from the producers' as well as the consumers' perspective will not fail to have a certain impact on the future development of macroeconometric modelling in the Euro area. Once more it became clear, however, that an ideal way to a solution of the problems is still not in sight. The future development will be characterized by a plurality of approaches and models. Thus trends continue which have had a more or less strong, durable or temporary influence on the model landscape since the emergence of the monetarist revolution, the rational expectations" or the "real business cycle"-models. We are still at the beginning of the theoretical and empirical exploration of the macroeconomic development of the Euro area, it is not always clearly perceptible what is transitory and what is permanent, and this openness should facilitate the reception of the experiences and results which have been presented. The idea for this event was developed in the course of the Project LINK. One of the highlights of the conference was the participation of the nobel prize winner Professor Dr. Lawrence Klein - pioneer and Nestor of macroeconometric modelling - who, as his contribution shows, is following up the creation of the European Monetary Union with critical interest."

QPM incorporates several India-specific features like the importance of the agricultural sector and food prices in the inflation process; features of monetary policy transmission and implications of an endogenous credibility process for monetary policy formulation. The paper also describes key properties and historical decompositions of some important macroeconomic variables.
