Book Modelling of Turbulent Transport Phenomena and Solidification in Continuous Casting Systems

Download or read book Modelling of Turbulent Transport Phenomena and Solidification in Continuous Casting Systems written by M. Reza Aboutalebi and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Macrosegregation of carbon in a steel billet caster was also modelled based on a continuum formulation, in which the conservation equations are derived in terms of mixture dependent variables. The effect of turbulence on the transport of solute in the liquid and mushy regions was taken into account using the $ kappa$-$ epsilon$ model adopted in this work." --

Book Modeling Multiphase Materials Processes

Download or read book Modeling Multiphase Materials Processes written by Manabu Iguchi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-10 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling Multiphase Materials Processes: Gas-Liquid Systems describes the methodology and application of physical and mathematical modeling to multi-phase flow phenomena in materials processing. The book focuses on systems involving gas-liquid interaction, the most prevalent in current metallurgical processes. The performance characteristics of these processes are largely dependent on transport phenomena. This volume covers the inherent characteristics that complicate the modeling of transport phenomena in such systems, including complex multiphase structure, intense turbulence, opacity of fluid, high temperature, coupled heat and mass transfer, chemical reactions in some cases, and poor wettability of the reactor walls. Also discussed are: solutions based on experimental and numerical modeling of bubbling jet systems, recent advances in the modeling of nanoscale multi-phase phenomena and multiphase flows in micro-scale and nano-scale channels and reactors. Modeling Multiphase Materials Processes: Gas-Liquid Systems will prove a valuable reference for researchers and engineers working in mathematical modeling and materials processing.

Book Modelling the Flow and Solidification of Metals

Download or read book Modelling the Flow and Solidification of Metals written by T.J. Smith and published by Springer. This book was released on 1987 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The origin of this book can be traced to a Workshop held at the University of Cambridge in December 1985 under the auspices of the Wolfson Group for Studies of Fluid Flow and Mixing in Industrial Processes. This Group was es tablished at the University of Cambridge in January 1983 and includes mem bers from the Departments of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, Engineering and Chemical Engineering. As its name suggests, the objective of the Group is to undertake, co"ordinate and stimulate research in various aspects of fluid flow and mixing in industrial processes. However, another equally important aim for the Group is to promote co-operation between the University and industry at all levels from collaborative research projects to joint colloquia. The Workshop in December 1985 on 'Mixing, Stirring and Solidification in Metallurgical Processes' which led to this book was one in an annual series of such meetings first held in December 1983. The existence of the Wolfson Group is due to the enthusiasm of its original advocate, the late Professor J. A. Shercliff FRS, Head of the Department of Engineering who, together with Professor G. K. Batchelor FRS, Professor J. F. Davidson FRS, Dr J. C. R. Hunt, and Dr R. E. Britter, were responsible for the initial application to the Wolfson Foundation and for the subsequent direction of the Group's activities.

Book Modeling of Casting Welding and Advanced Solidification Processes

Download or read book Modeling of Casting Welding and Advanced Solidification Processes written by Steve L. Cockcroft and published by Wiley-TMS. This book was released on 2009-06-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings encapsulate the progress made in modeling casting processes and liquid-solid phase transformations over the years. The papers presented provide a clear picture of the modeling activities for processes involving solidification, covering continuous casting, welding, remelting, semi-solid, and shape and ingot casting processes. Other topics related to casting technologies, such as liquid metal treatment and casting tools (e.g., mold manufacturing and life time), are also examined. These proceedings bring together leading academic research that brings up to date information from the industry. Classical studies of structure and segregation formed upon solidification as well as new in-situ observation techniques are addressed. A collection of papers from the 12th International Conference held in Vancouver, British Columbia June 7th-14th, 2009.
