Book An Investigation Into the Control of a Vehicle Suspension Using Model Reference Adaptive Control with Voice Coil Actuators

Download or read book An Investigation Into the Control of a Vehicle Suspension Using Model Reference Adaptive Control with Voice Coil Actuators written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The control of a vehicle suspension is of great interest to control engineers due to its classic model structure, vibratory modes, and response. Despite being such a widely studied system, most vehicle suspensions today still employ passive suspensions comprised of mechanical springs and dampers. This investigation is conducted to determine the feasibility and value of using model reference adaptive control in combination with voice coil (linear motor) actuators. In particular, voice coils are well known for their low hysteresis, and with the use of an appropriate controller may be able to improve ride quality along stretches of road when encountering small signal disturbances as is typical of highways and city streets where road frequencies are varied and are have an RMS value 0.17 inches (0.43 cm) in amplitude. Substantially improved results can occur using MRAC over classical control methods when the Laplace transform plant is substituted by the full simulation to obtain states, especially when MRAC and a tuned PID controller are used in concert. When acceleration control is used with MRAC, ride comfort is improved drastically, however the control effort required to maintain such control is extensive.

Book Recurrent Adaptive NeuroFuzzy Paradigms

Download or read book Recurrent Adaptive NeuroFuzzy Paradigms written by Majida Nazir and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vehicle stability and comfort of passenger is greatly in influenced by the uneven and bumpy roads. When visualizing the conventional semi-active and passive systems, they have fixed parameters and can not adapt with uneven roads. Main objective of this work is to get enhanced active suspension of the full car model. Mathematical modeling of full car model is evaluated and update parameter equations of the active controllers, i.e. Recurrent Fuzzy Wavelet Neural Network-1(a), Recurrent Fuzzy Wavelet Neural Network-1(b), Recurrent Fuzzy Wavelet Neural Network-2(a), Recurrent Fuzzy Wavelet Neural Network-2(b), Recurrent Fuzzy Wavelet Neural Network-3(a) and Recurrent Fuzzy Wavelet Neural Network-2(b) controllers have been derived. Then these controllers are tested using MATLAB/Simulink on full car model. At the end comparison of all the above mentioned controllers with passive suspension and semi-active suspension is done. It is concluded that these active controllers have greatly improved the displacement and acceleration of Heave, Pitch, Roll and Seat of car, as a result comfort of passenger and vehicle is improved.

Book Adaptive NeuroFuzzy Control Paradigms

Download or read book Adaptive NeuroFuzzy Control Paradigms written by Shahid Qamar and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this manuscript, the main objective is to obtain improved active suspension control for the full car model. A car suspension may be classified as passive suspension, semi-active suspension and active suspension system. Mathematical modeling of the passive suspension, semi-active suspension and active suspension for the full car suspension control are evaluated. Then three models of car suspension, i.e., quarter car, half car and full car models are explained. The spring and damper of the conventional passive suspension and semi-active suspension are fixed. Due to this drawback, the passenger comfort and vehicle handling is affected against the road disturbances. To resolve this drawback active suspension for full car model is explained. An active suspension consists of actuator. The controller drives the actuator, which depends on the proposed control law. The active suspension system gives the freedom to tune the whole suspension system, and the control force can be initiated locally or globally depending on the system state. Then active suspension systems provide more design flexibility and increase the range of achievable objectives.

Book Vehicle Dynamics and Control

Download or read book Vehicle Dynamics and Control written by Rajesh Rajamani and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-12-23 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vehicle Dynamics and Control provides a comprehensive coverage of vehicle control systems and the dynamic models used in the development of these control systems. The control system applications covered in the book include cruise control, adaptive cruise control, ABS, automated lane keeping, automated highway systems, yaw stability control, engine control, passive, active and semi-active suspensions, tire-road friction coefficient estimation, rollover prevention, and hybrid electric vehicles. In developing the dynamic model for each application, an effort is made to both keep the model simple enough for control system design but at the same time rich enough to capture the essential features of the dynamics. A special effort has been made to explain the several different tire models commonly used in literature and to interpret them physically. In the second edition of the book, chapters on roll dynamics, rollover prevention and hybrid electric vehicles have been added, and the chapter on electronic stability control has been enhanced. The use of feedback control systems on automobiles is growing rapidly. This book is intended to serve as a useful resource to researchers who work on the development of such control systems, both in the automotive industry and at universities. The book can also serve as a textbook for a graduate level course on Vehicle Dynamics and Control.

Book Vehicle Suspension Systems and Electromagnetic Dampers

Download or read book Vehicle Suspension Systems and Electromagnetic Dampers written by Saad Kashem and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-04 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the development of a new analytical, full-vehicle model with nine degrees of freedom, which uses the new modified skyhook strategy (SKDT) to control the full-vehicle vibration problem. The book addresses the incorporation of road bank angle to create a zero steady-state torque requirement when designing the direct tilt control and the dynamic model of the full car model. It also highlights the potential of the SKDT suspension system to improve cornering performance and paves the way for future work on the vehicle’s integrated chassis control system. Active tilting technology to improve vehicle cornering is the focus of numerous ongoing research projects, but these don’t consider the effect of road bank angle in the control system design or in the dynamic model of the tilting standard passenger vehicles. The non-incorporation of road bank angle creates a non-zero steady state torque requirement.
