Book excerpt: La commande floue est une alternative aux approches proposées par l'automatique classique pour le contrôle des systèmes complexes. Les objectifs de performance du système bouclé et les actions correspondantes sont synthétisés sous la forme de règles d'expertise, qui sont énoncées dans un langage simple. Cette technique permet donc de s'affranchir de l'utilisation de modèles mathématiques parfois difficiles à obtenir. Cette thèse s'inscrit dans la mouvance des travaux actuels avec pour résultats la synthèse de stratégies multivariables et l'application de la commande floue à des systèmes automobiles. Dans une première partie, les principes de la logique floue et de la commande floue sont rappelés. Les origines des non-linéarités de la commande sont explicitées, et l'auteur propose deux simplifications du mécanisme de traitement des règles permettant de réduire les temps de calcul. Dans une deuxième partie, la conception des lois de commande déduites de l'expertise est illustrée sur des exemples. L'acquisition de la connaissance, l'écriture des règles de commande et le réglage du contrôleur sont détaillés. Cette démarche est ensuite mise en œuvre sur deux problèmes de contrôle d'un moteur à injection directe. Les solutions proposées contribuent à l'amélioration du rendement tout en diminuant la pollution et la consommation. Enfin, cette méthode experte est employée pour résoudre un problème multivariable. Les limitations de l'approche précédente conduisent l'auteur, dans une dernière phase, à proposer une nouvelle méthode de conception des contrôleurs flous. Un modèle flou du système est identifié à partir d'un ensemble de mesures. Puis, les règles de commande sont déduites des règles du modèle par une pseudo-inversion. Pour favoriser les échanges d'information entre les experts du domaine et les automaticiens, les règles restent simples et explicites. Cette méthode est ensuite évaluée sur des systèmes monovariables et multivariables.

L'accent est mis sur la classe des systèmes dynamiques, non linéaires, stochastiques et m ulti varia blés. Dans ce contexte, nous avons proposé une méthode de modélisation de ces systèmes pasée sur la technique des cfusters flous. En effet, à partir d'une base de données disponible du système à étudier, un modèle flou global de commande, formé par la pondération d'un ensemble de modèles linéaires locaux flous de type Tafcagi-Sugeno, est établi. Les paramètres de ce modèle global sont ensuite adaptés par l'algorithme récursif des moindres carrés, avec facteur d'oubli. La méthode de commande proposée est de type optimale par critère quadratique. Elle est basée sur un modèle neuronal de simulation et un modèle flou de commande de type Takagi-Sugeno. L'erreur résultante entre les sorties de ces deux modèles servira pour adapter les paramètres du modale flou et par conséquent les paramètres du correcteur. His first assignment was with the University of Paris VI before he was appointed to the CNRS, the French National Research Center. His research was focused on optical pumping, statistical mechanics of quantum gases, musical acoustics and the foundations of quantum mechanics.

Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 38 (thesis year 1993) a total of 13,787 thesis titles from 22 Canadian and 164 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 38 reports theses submitted in 1993, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
