Book Factors Affecting Minimum Dissolved Oxygen Concentration in Streams

Download or read book Factors Affecting Minimum Dissolved Oxygen Concentration in Streams written by Christopher Robert Huhnke and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling water quality has been shown to be a useful tool in strategizing water quality management. Dissolved oxygen (DO) has one of the largest impacts on water quality compared to other parameters. The purpose of the dissertation research is to generate a regression equation model, using the US EPA QUAL2K model as the base, to determine different factors affecting minimum dissolved oxygen concentrations in streams, to determine the critical distance for the minimum dissolved oxygen concentration, and the magnitude of impact of each parameter. Based on regression analysis, the factors affecting minimum DO in river water are effluent biochemical oxygen demand, effluent flow rate, river flow rate, river temperature, and effluent DO in that order. The simulation study of QUAL2K is related to stream classification and degree of treatment of municipal wastewater. Important factors affecting minimum dissolved oxygen concentrations in streams and corresponding critical distance or critical time in streams, which receive municipal wastewater treatment plant effluent discharge, include effluent BOD, river Q, effluent Q, and river temperature. Based on regression analysis, the factors affecting minimum DO in river water are effluent BOD, effluent Q, river Q, river temperature, and effluent DO, in that order. The application of the end result of this study can be used to determine the degree of municipal wastewater treatment to maintain a desirable stream classification and river water quality.

Book Dissolved Oxygen Modelling of the St Croix River Maine New Brunswick

Download or read book Dissolved Oxygen Modelling of the St Croix River Maine New Brunswick written by Willard Boutot and published by Environment Canada, Inland Waters Directorate, Water Planning and Management Branch. This book was released on 1981 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Mathematical modelling techniques have been applied to study the dissolved oxygen concentration in the lower reach of the St. Croix River. A hydraulic routing model, HEC-2, was used to describe the flow regime, and the WATQUAL model was used to simulate dissolved oxygen levels under different conditions of temperature, flow and biological oxygen demand. The results indicate that waste loading to the river should be restricted during periods of high temperature and minimum river discharge in order to permit fish migration"--Abstract, p. v.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intermittent Rivers and Ephemeral Streams: Ecology and Management takes an internationally broad approach, seeking to compare and contrast findings across multiple continents, climates, flow regimes, and land uses to provide a complete and integrated perspective on the ecology of these ecosystems. Coupled with this, users will find a discussion of management approaches applicable in different regions that are illustrated with relevant case studies. In a readable and technically accurate style, the book utilizes logically framed chapters authored by experts in the field, allowing managers and policymakers to readily grasp ecological concepts and their application to specific situations. - Provides up-to-date reviews of research findings and management strategies using international examples - Explores themes and parallels across diverse sub-disciplines in ecology and water resource management utilizing a multidisciplinary and integrative approach - Reveals the relevance of this scientific understanding to managers and policymakers

Book Shortcut Nitrogen Removal Nitrite Shunt and Deammonification

Download or read book Shortcut Nitrogen Removal Nitrite Shunt and Deammonification written by Water Environment Federation and published by . This book was released on 2015-04-24 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shortcut nitrogen removal refers to biological nitrogen removal when ammonia is not converted to nitrate, but halts at nitrite to shortcut the conventional nitrification/denitrification process. Shortcut nitrogen removal processes provide significant potential benefits in terms of energy, carbon, and chemical savings compared with conventional biological nitrogen removal. Shortcut Nitrogen Removal-Nitrite Shunt and Deammonification provides owners, managers, engineers, operators, and researchers with a solid understanding of shortcut nitrogen removal and the most current research and cutting-edge industry practices on how to implement these emerging resource-saving technologies in a sustainable manner.
