Book Modeling the Determinants to Regulated Nurses and Allied Health Staff Members Job Satisfaction in Residential Long Term Care Facilities

Download or read book Modeling the Determinants to Regulated Nurses and Allied Health Staff Members Job Satisfaction in Residential Long Term Care Facilities written by Laura Denise Aloisio and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Factors affecting job satisfaction among regulated nurses and allied health workers in long-term care (LTC) facilities remain poorly understood. A secondary analysis using data from the Translating Research in Elder Care program was done to model determinants of job satisfaction. Demographic, individual-level, and context-level variables were assessed. Separate GEE models were constructed for regulated workers (n = 756) and allied health workers (n = 334). Emotional exhaustion and cynicism predicted lower job satisfaction in regulated nurses and allied health workers, respectively. Psychological empowerment and adequate orientation predicted higher job satisfaction in both groups. Work engagement, culture, and organizational slack-space predicted higher job satisfaction in regulated nurses. Social capital, organizational slack-time, and formal interactions predicted higher job satisfaction in allied health workers. These findings provide empirical support for individual-level and context-level variables and identify the importance of adequate orientation in job satisfaction in this population.

Book Impact of a Person centered Care Model on Nursing Job Satisfaction

Download or read book Impact of a Person centered Care Model on Nursing Job Satisfaction written by Tracy A. Thompson and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long-term care (LTC) facilities have historically created an institutionalized environment for their residents which have been shown to decrease quality of life and decrease nursing job satisfaction within those facilities (Koren, 2010). This paper outlines a single implementation study of a person-centered care model in a long-term care facility. The goal of this implementation was to not only change the practice from a medical model to a person-centered care model but to positively impact nursing job satisfaction. This implementation took place at a long-term care facility in The State of Oregon. This study included an educational intervention, as well as practice change at the bedside and used pre and post job satisfaction surveys to measure nursing job satisfaction. The person-centered model of care was chosen because it was not only the model of care the nurses desired to implement but also gave nursing staff the foundation, knowledge and tools to move practice away from the traditional medical model of care thus improving resident quality of life and personal job satisfaction (Jones, 2011). The Population-Intervention-Comparison-Outcome model (PICO) used for this project was as follow: Population: Nursing staff in a long-term care setting, Intervention: Implementation of person-centered care model, Comparison: Current medical model of practice, Outcome: Improved job satisfaction among nursing staff. The sample size for this project was 17 nursing staff members both pre and post implementation. This study consisted of two phases over a 6-month time period. The results of this study showed a positive improvement in nursing job satisfaction over a six-month time period.

Download or read book Improving the Quality of Care in Nursing Homes written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1986-02-01 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As more people live longer, the need for quality long-term care for the elderly will increase dramatically. This volume examines the current system of nursing home regulations, and proposes an overhaul to better provide for those confined to such facilities. It determines the need for regulations, and concludes that the present regulatory system is inadequate, stating that what is needed is not more regulation, but better regulation. This long-anticipated study provides a wealth of useful background information, in-depth study, and discussion for nursing home administrators, students, and teachers in the health care field; professionals involved in caring for the elderly; and geriatric specialists.

Book Intrinsic and Extrinsic Factors Affecting Job Satisfaction of Nursing Assistants in Two Long term Care Facilities

Download or read book Intrinsic and Extrinsic Factors Affecting Job Satisfaction of Nursing Assistants in Two Long term Care Facilities written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research examines the affects of intrinsic and extrinsic factors on the job satisfaction of Nursing Assistants (NAs) in a long-term care setting. Specifically, the NAs are employees of the two facilities owned by the Episcopal Retirement Homes. NAs at these facilities are more satisfied with intrinsic (job content) than extrinsic (job context) aspects of their jobs. The NAs in one facility are significantly more satisfied with their manager2s administrative manners and skills items than those in the other facility. NAs in this facility also were more satisfied with the chance to tell people what to do than those in the other facility. When comparing the facilities overall job satisfaction scores, there was no statistically significant difference. This is of particular interest as the NA turnover at one facility was 67%, substantially less than the other facility at 119% at the time of this research. This result may be explained by the fact that during the research process some NAs in Facility B were openly vocal in their criticism of management during the time this research was being conducted. In order for management to positively influence job satisfaction and reduce turnover of NAs at these two long-term care facilities, attention should be paid to the extrinsic aspects of NAs jobs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The decade ahead will test the nation's nearly 4 million nurses in new and complex ways. Nurses live and work at the intersection of health, education, and communities. Nurses work in a wide array of settings and practice at a range of professional levels. They are often the first and most frequent line of contact with people of all backgrounds and experiences seeking care and they represent the largest of the health care professions. A nation cannot fully thrive until everyone - no matter who they are, where they live, or how much money they make - can live their healthiest possible life, and helping people live their healthiest life is and has always been the essential role of nurses. Nurses have a critical role to play in achieving the goal of health equity, but they need robust education, supportive work environments, and autonomy. Accordingly, at the request of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, on behalf of the National Academy of Medicine, an ad hoc committee under the auspices of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine conducted a study aimed at envisioning and charting a path forward for the nursing profession to help reduce inequities in people's ability to achieve their full health potential. The ultimate goal is the achievement of health equity in the United States built on strengthened nursing capacity and expertise. By leveraging these attributes, nursing will help to create and contribute comprehensively to equitable public health and health care systems that are designed to work for everyone. The Future of Nursing 2020-2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity explores how nurses can work to reduce health disparities and promote equity, while keeping costs at bay, utilizing technology, and maintaining patient and family-focused care into 2030. This work builds on the foundation set out by The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health (2011) report.

Book Job Satisfaction and Employment Turnover of Nursing Assistants in Long term Care

Download or read book Job Satisfaction and Employment Turnover of Nursing Assistants in Long term Care written by Betty S. Cottongim and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The population of the United States is aging: as the proportion of retirees to working-age population increases, the future needs of the elderly and long term care needs will require careful consideration by healthcare providers. Just as personal care dependency increases with age so does the proportion of older persons institutionalized at any point in time. As of 1990, of the 30 million persons over the age of 65, approximately 24 percent required some long-term care services (Feldstein, 1993). The majority of the elderly in long-term care can be expected to be cared for by nursing assistants who make up 45-50 percent of nursing home staff and provide 90 percent of the care (Wagnild 1988, Waxman et al. 1984). Identified in the literature has been the need to develop strategies for reducing a long-identified problem of nursing assistant employment turnover in long-term care facilities. Using Herzberg's (1959) Motivational Theory as a theoretical framework, this study evaluated the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover of employment of nursing assistants in long-term care. Utilizing a structured qualitative interview setting, a comparative correlation of employee retention and job satisfaction was examined. Appropriate demographic data were collected. Data analysis consisted of descriptive statistics for the demographic data and content analysis for the nursing assistant focus group interviews. Information obtained from the focus group interviews was utilized to identify overriding themes that provide insight to factors related to job satisfaction/dissatisfaction and reasons nursing assistants stay or leave a position. Overall the data from the investigative project identified that the work itself is the most important factor related to job satisfaction for nursing assistants. Nursing assistants need to have attachment and feelings for residents in order to do the job, These feelings of caring and self-worth contribute to job satisfaction and are closely tied to the reasons nursing assistants stay in a position and seem to out-weigh the extrinsic factors of dissatisfaction: pay and communication. However, these positive feelings aren't enough by themselves to decrease turnover of nursing assistant employment in long-term care. Issues of respect, communication and pay do have an effect on the self-esteem of nursing assistants and will ultimately outweigh the good feelings one has about the work itself. Factors related to lack of respect, poor communication and low pay were identified as important in all of the study facilities as job dissatisfiers and reasons nursing assistants would leave a position.

Book Assessing the Determinants of Quality in Ontario s Long Term Care Homes Relationships Between Staff and Resident Satisfaction

Download or read book Assessing the Determinants of Quality in Ontario s Long Term Care Homes Relationships Between Staff and Resident Satisfaction written by Kevin Ross Walker and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis aimed to test the relationship between resident satisfaction and staff satisfaction. Using a cross-sectional design, administrators, staff and residents from 24 LTC homes were surveyed. Logistic regression models predicting high resident satisfaction were developed with a primary focus on the relationship to direct care staff satisfaction, while controlling for facility, staff and resident characteristics (and facility-level clustering). Regression models were developed for overall staff satisfaction and three other domains of job satisfaction. The odds of high overall resident satisfaction decreased by 27% and 31% for each 1-unit increase in overall job satisfaction and satisfaction with workload, respectively. In contrast, the odds of high overall resident satisfaction increased by 5.56 times for each 1-unit increase in mean staff satisfaction with work content. LTC homes may be able to improve staff and resident experiences concurrently by encouraging direct care staff to enter into meaningful relationships with residents.

Book State regulatory provisions for residential care settings

Download or read book State regulatory provisions for residential care settings written by Paula Carder and published by RTI Press. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Residential care settings (RCSs), such as assisted living facilities, provide community-based services for older adults and younger people with disabilities who require long-term services and supports. Within RCSs, staffing adequacy is a key factor for ensuring residents’ quality of care. However, because residential care settings are licensed and regulated by the states, staffing requirements vary considerably among states. This paper provides an overview of state regulations related to staffing in residential care, highlighting the variance among state regulations. The primary data source for this analysis was the Compendium of Residential Care and Assisted Living Regulations and Policy, 2015 Edition, funded by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation/US Department of Health and Human Services. Consumers and regulators need to be aware of the state variance in RCS staffing requirements and assess whether a state’s staffing requirements are adequate to meet residents’ needs.
