Book Modeling Chemical Transport in Soils

Download or read book Modeling Chemical Transport in Soils written by Hossein Ghadiri and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-09-23 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling Chemical Transport in Soils: Natural and Applied Contaminants provides a comprehensive discussion of mathematical models used to anticipate and predict the consequences and fate of natural and applied chemicals. The book evaluates the strengths, weaknesses, and possibilities for application of numerous models used throughout the world. It examines the theoretical support and need for experimental calibration for each model. The book also reviews world literature to discuss such topics as the movement of sorbed chemicals by soil erosion, the movement of reactive and nonreactive chemicals in the subsurface and groundwater, and salt transport in the landscape. Modeling Chemical Transport in Soils: Natural and Applied Contaminants is an important volume for environmental scientists, agricultural engineers, regulatory personnel, farm managers, consultants, and the chemical industry.

Book Herbicides Mechanisms Involved in the Sorption Kinetic of Ionisable and Non Ionisable Herbicides

Download or read book Herbicides Mechanisms Involved in the Sorption Kinetic of Ionisable and Non Ionisable Herbicides written by Lizethly Caceres Jensen and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volcanic ash-derived soils (VADS, variable-charge soils) are predominant in some regions of the world, being of great importance in the agricultural economy of several emerging countries. Their amphoteric surface charge characteristics confer physical/chemical properties different to constant surface charge-soils, showing a particular behavior in relation to the herbicide adsorption kinetics. Volcanic soils represent an environmental substrate that may become polluted over time due to intensive agronomic uses. Solute transport models have contributed to a better understanding of herbicide behavior on variable- and constant-charge soils, being also necessary to evaluate the fate of herbicides and to prevent potential contamination of water resources. The following chapter is divided into four sections: physical/chemical properties of variable and constant-charge soils, kinetic adsorption models frequently used to obtain kinetic parameters of herbicides on soils, solute transport models to describe herbicide adsorption on VADS, and impact of experimental conditions of kinetic batch studies on solute transport mechanisms.

Book Simulating Spatial Variability in Atrazine Transport Under Different Tillage Systems Using GIS based RZWQM

Download or read book Simulating Spatial Variability in Atrazine Transport Under Different Tillage Systems Using GIS based RZWQM written by Khalil Ahmad and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study indicated that macropore flow, variation in K[Subscript oc] and pesticide half life with depth, and interception of pesticide by surface residue during application may be critical factors and should be considered in evaluating the pesticide component of RZWQM. It was noted that soils behaviour is extremely complex within the heterogeneous systems and modeling of pollutants in the vadose zone must incorporate the spatial complexity of the soil system. GIS-based vadose zone chemical transport models could be one way of dealing with the spatial heterogeneity of the soil system. GIS-based RZWQM made it possible to consider the spatial variability exiting in the terrestrial environment, simply the data input to the model, and allowed the user to visualize the thematic map with the output data for the field. GIS-based RZWQM model gave better simulation results as compared to RZWQM when spatial variability was accounted.

Book Environmental Chemistry of Herbicides

Download or read book Environmental Chemistry of Herbicides written by Raj Grover and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1988-03-31 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reference book deals with the physico-chemical principles and processes controlling the behavior of herbicides in the soil environ-ment and gives a concise, critical account of techniques associ-ated with each subject matter. It summarizes and tabulates data on herbicides by class or group and provides predictive modeling of their behavior with validation of the models from field data. The in-formation makes the reader fully aware of environmental issues rel-evant to herbicide use in agriculture, and allows more reliable and efficient recommendation of herbicide uses. Summaries and con-clusions suggesting gaps in information and potential areas of fu-ture research are also featured. The text is designed for weed sci-entists, environmental chemists and engineers, soil scientists, and those who are responsible for recommending as well as regulating the use of herbicides in agriculture. Soil Aspects Covered Include: ? Adsorption and bioavailability ? Diffusion and mass flow ? Transport in surface run-off ? Evaporation ? Dissipation ? Transformations

Book Root Zone Water Quality Model

Download or read book Root Zone Water Quality Model written by Lajpat Ahuja and published by Water Resources Publication. This book was released on 2000 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication comes with computer software and presents a comprehensive simulation model designed to predict the hydrologic response, including potential for surface and groundwater contamination, of alternative crop-management systems. It simulates crop development and the movement of water, nutrients and pesticides over and through the root zone for a representative unit area of an agricultural field over multiple years. The model allows simulation of a wide spectrum of management practices and scenarios with special features such as the rapid transport of surface-applied chemicals through macropores to deeper depths and the preferential transport of chemicals within the soil matrix via mobile-immobile zones. The transfer of surface-applied chemicals (pesticides in particular) to runoff water is also an important component.

Book Herbicide and Conservative Tracer Movement Through the Soil Profile and to Subsurface Drains Under No till and Chisel Plow Systems

Download or read book Herbicide and Conservative Tracer Movement Through the Soil Profile and to Subsurface Drains Under No till and Chisel Plow Systems written by Syed Imran Ahmed and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atrazine leaching losses were found to be higher than alachlor under chisel plow and no-till systems. First irrigation or simulated rainfall event immediately after chemical application resulted in higher peak concentrations of tracers and herbicides in the subsurface drain water under both tillage systems compared to subsequent irrigation events. The LEACHP model was also evaluated in predicting the chemical movement through the soil profile. The LEAC HP, on the average, predicted the transport of water and solutes through the soil profile reasonably well. The LEACHP model could not accurately predict the effect of rainfall events on the subsurface drain flows, although predicted flow for the no-till system was closer to the observed values. Predicted chemical losses with subsurface drain flow were correlated to the amount of water drained as subsurface drain flow.
