Book Freshwater Microplastics

Download or read book Freshwater Microplastics written by Martin Wagner and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-21 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This volume focuses on microscopic plastic debris, also referred to as microplastics, which have been detected in aquatic environments around the globe and have accordingly raised serious concerns. The book explores whether microplastics represent emerging contaminants in freshwater systems, an area that remains underrepresented to date. Given the complexity of the issue, the book covers the current state-of-research on microplastics in rivers and lakes, including analytical aspects, environmental concentrations and sources, modelling approaches, interactions with biota, and ecological implications. To provide a broader perspective, the book also discusses lessons learned from nanomaterials and the implications of plastic debris for regulation, politics, economy, and society. In a research field that is rapidly evolving, it offers a solid overview for environmental chemists, engineers, and toxicologists, as well as water managers and policy-makers.

Book Competitive Sorption and Transport of Heavy Metals in Soils and Geological Media

Download or read book Competitive Sorption and Transport of Heavy Metals in Soils and Geological Media written by H. Magdi Selim and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most reported incidents of soil contamination include an array of heavy metals species rather than a single ion. The various interactions in these multicomponent or multiple-ion systems significantly impact the fate and transport of heavy metals, and competition for sorption sites on soil matrix surfaces is a common phenomenon. Because of this, con

Book Heavy Metal Transport in the Environment from a Point Source

Book Simulation of Metal Fate and Transport in the Naugatuck River Connecticut with MEXAMS

Download or read book Simulation of Metal Fate and Transport in the Naugatuck River Connecticut with MEXAMS written by Scott Edward Streifert and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal transport in the Naugatuck River is currently being investigated to provide important data for waste allocation decisions. The development of suitable metals modeling capability is a necessary part of the management activities. The calibration, testing and evaluation of MEXAMS (Metal Exposure Analysis Modeling System) computer program was performed to meet the above requirement. Results indicate that the log K sub d and percent groundwater flow into the benthic compartments value were the most sensitive and were used as the major calibration variables. The model very accurately predicted both the particulate concentration of all benthic compartment and the total and aqueous concentration for all water column compartments. Now that the initial calibration has been achieved, the verification procedure will be performed and the initial calibration will be fine tuned.

Download or read book Numerical Modelling written by Peep Miidla and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-03-23 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates applications and case studies performed by experts for professionals and students in the field of technology, engineering, materials, decision making management and other industries in which mathematical modelling plays a role. Each chapter discusses an example and these are ranging from well-known standards to novelty applications. Models are developed and analysed in details, authors carefully consider the procedure for constructing a mathematical replacement of phenomenon under consideration. For most of the cases this leads to the partial differential equations, for the solution of which numerical methods are necessary to use. The term Model is mainly understood as an ensemble of equations which describe the variables and interrelations of a physical system or process. Developments in computer technology and related software have provided numerous tools of increasing power for specialists in mathematical modelling. One finds a variety of these used to obtain the numerical results of the book.

Book Containment of High Level Radioactive and Hazardous Solid Wastes with Clay Barriers

Download or read book Containment of High Level Radioactive and Hazardous Solid Wastes with Clay Barriers written by Raymond N. Yong and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2010-05-31 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the principal objections to or problems with the use of nuclear fuel is that a proven method for safe disposal of spent nuclear fuel has yet to be established. The central focus of most schemes underway to dispose of these high-level radioactive wastes relies on clay-based buffers and barriers to isolate spent fuel canisters in borehole
