Book Mathematical Analysis of Groundwater Flow Models

Download or read book Mathematical Analysis of Groundwater Flow Models written by Abdon Atangana and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-03-22 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides comprehensive analysis of a number of groundwater issues, ranging from flow to pollution problems. Several scenarios are considered throughout, including flow in leaky, unconfined, and confined geological formations, crossover flow behavior from confined to confined, to semi-confined to unconfined and groundwater pollution in dual media. Several mathematical concepts are employed to include into the mathematical models’ complexities of the geological formation, including classical differential operators, fractional derivatives and integral operators, fractal mapping, randomness, piecewise differential, and integral operators. It suggests several new and modified models to better predict anomalous behaviours of the flow and movement of pollution within complex geological formations. Numerous mathematical techniques are employed to ensure that all suggested models are well-suited, and different techniques including analytical methods and numerical methods are used to derive exact and numerical solutions of different groundwater models. Features: Includes modified numerical and analytical methods for solving new and modified models for groundwater flow and transport Presents new flow and transform models for groundwater transport in complex geological formations Examines fractal and crossover behaviors and their mathematical formulations Mathematical Analysis of Groundwater Flow Models serves as a valuable resource for graduate and PhD students as well as researchers working within the field of groundwater modeling.

Book Modeling Chemical Transport in Soils

Download or read book Modeling Chemical Transport in Soils written by Hossein Ghadiri and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-09-23 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling Chemical Transport in Soils: Natural and Applied Contaminants provides a comprehensive discussion of mathematical models used to anticipate and predict the consequences and fate of natural and applied chemicals. The book evaluates the strengths, weaknesses, and possibilities for application of numerous models used throughout the world. It examines the theoretical support and need for experimental calibration for each model. The book also reviews world literature to discuss such topics as the movement of sorbed chemicals by soil erosion, the movement of reactive and nonreactive chemicals in the subsurface and groundwater, and salt transport in the landscape. Modeling Chemical Transport in Soils: Natural and Applied Contaminants is an important volume for environmental scientists, agricultural engineers, regulatory personnel, farm managers, consultants, and the chemical industry.

Book Atrazine Transport Through a Glacial Till Aquifer in North central Missouri

Download or read book Atrazine Transport Through a Glacial Till Aquifer in North central Missouri written by Steven Pagan and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the claypan of North Central Missouri is traditionally believed to protect the groundwater from contamination, low concentrations of the herbicide atrazine have been detected in a shallow glacial till aquifer. The fate of the atrazine in the aquifer is not well known. With the continued use of atrazine, the concentration in the aquifer could increase to levels of concern or decrease if the conditions are not favorable for persistence. Beginning in the Fall 2007 and continuing through the Fall 2008, concentrations of atrazine and its degradation products deethylatrazine (DEA) and deisopropylatrazine (DIA) were measured at a typical field in Northeast Boone County, Missouri. The concentration ratio of DEA to atrazine (DAR) supports the concept that preferential flow paths within the claypan allow for direct transport of atrazine to the aquifer. These data were also necessary for constructing computer based flow models of the aquifer. Using the programs MODFLOW and MT3DMS within GMS 6.0, a groundwater flow model was produced that was coupled with a solute transport model of atrazine within the saturated zone. The model was constructed using constraints of historical use of atrazine since 1991. The model results were similar to those measured in the field and predictive simulations did not indicate an increase of atrazine concentration to alarming levels.
