Book Random Processes for Engineers

Download or read book Random Processes for Engineers written by Bruce Hajek and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-03-12 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This engaging introduction to random processes provides students with the critical tools needed to design and evaluate engineering systems that must operate reliably in uncertain environments. A brief review of probability theory and real analysis of deterministic functions sets the stage for understanding random processes, whilst the underlying measure theoretic notions are explained in an intuitive, straightforward style. Students will learn to manage the complexity of randomness through the use of simple classes of random processes, statistical means and correlations, asymptotic analysis, sampling, and effective algorithms. Key topics covered include: • Calculus of random processes in linear systems • Kalman and Wiener filtering • Hidden Markov models for statistical inference • The estimation maximization (EM) algorithm • An introduction to martingales and concentration inequalities. Understanding of the key concepts is reinforced through over 100 worked examples and 300 thoroughly tested homework problems (half of which are solved in detail at the end of the book).

Book Simulation of Communication Systems

Download or read book Simulation of Communication Systems written by Philip Balaban and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 750 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simulation may be defined as the discipline whose objective is to imitate one or more aspects of reality in a way that is as close to that reality as possible; indeed, an apt synonym that is gaining some currency is artificial reality. Under this definition, simulation is a very old discipline. Probably the first applications of simulation were to scale models of various types of dynamical structures or mechanical devices. Man has always looked for ways to "try things out" before building the real thing; this is the motivation behind any form of simulation. Thus, simulation of communication systems is concerned with imitating some aspects of the behavior of communication systems. It is implicit in our use of simulation that the medium (so to speak) for carrying it out is the digital computer. Computer-based modeling and simulation of communication systems has only developed in the last 20 years or so, since the advent of modern digital computers. A variety of modeling and simulation techniques have been developed and described in widely scattered journals, but until now there has not been a single volume devoted to the subject. We have tried to provide a unified framework that describes both the disciplines involved and the methods of modeling and simulating communication systems and subsystems. In the electronic era, the first type of computer simulation, in today's use of the term, took shape in the form of analog computers.

Book Digital Signal Processing

Download or read book Digital Signal Processing written by Winser Alexander and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-11-14 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital signal processing (DSP) has been applied to a very wide range of applications. This includes voice processing, image processing, digital communications, the transfer of data over the internet, image and data compression, etc. Engineers who develop DSP applications today, and in the future, will need to address many implementation issues including mapping algorithms to computational structures, computational efficiency, power dissipation, the effects of finite precision arithmetic, throughput and hardware implementation. It is not practical to cover all of these in a single text. However, this text emphasizes the practical implementation of DSP algorithms as well as the fundamental theories and analytical procedures that form the basis for modern DSP applications. Digital Signal Processing: Principles, Algorithms and System Design provides an introduction to the principals of digital signal processing along with a balanced analytical and practical treatment of algorithms and applications for digital signal processing. It is intended to serve as a suitable text for a one semester junior or senior level undergraduate course. It is also intended for use in a following one semester first-year graduate level course in digital signal processing. It may also be used as a reference by professionals involved in the design of embedded computer systems, application specific integrated circuits or special purpose computer systems for digital signal processing, multimedia, communications, or image processing. - Covers fundamental theories and analytical procedures that form the basis of modern DSP - Shows practical implementation of DSP in software and hardware - Includes Matlab for design and implementation of signal processing algorithms and related discrete time systems - Bridges the gap between reference texts and the knowledge needed to implement DSP applications in software or hardware

Download or read book A Guide to Simulation written by P. Bratley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simulation means driving a model of a system with suitable inputs and observing the corresponding outputs. It is widely applied in engineering, in business, and in the physical and social sciences. Simulation method ology araws on computer. science, statistics, and operations research and is now sufficiently developed and coherent to be called a discipline in its own right. A course in simulation is an essential part of any operations re search or computer science program. A large fraction of applied work in these fields involves simulation; the techniques of simulation, as tools, are as fundamental as those of linear programming or compiler construction, for example. Simulation sometimes appears deceptively easy, but perusal of this book will reveal unexpected depths. Many simulation studies are statistically defective and many simulation programs are inefficient. We hope that our book will help to remedy this situation. It is intended to teach how to simulate effectively. A simulation project has three crucial components, each of which must always be tackled: (1) data gathering, model building, and validation; (2) statistical design and estimation; (3) programming and implementation. Generation of random numbers (Chapters 5 and 6) pervades simulation, but unlike the three components above, random number generators need not be constructed from scratch for each project. Usually random number packages are available. That is one reason why the chapters on random numbers, which contain mainly reference material, follow the ch!lPters deal ing with experimental design and output analysis.

Book Identification of Continuous time Models from Sampled Data

Download or read book Identification of Continuous time Models from Sampled Data written by Hugues Garnier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-03-13 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book dedicated to direct continuous-time model identification for 15 years. It cuts down on time spent hunting through journals by providing an overview of much recent research in an increasingly busy field. The CONTSID toolbox discussed in the final chapter gives an overview of developments and practical examples in which MATLAB® can be used for direct time-domain identification of continuous-time systems. This is a valuable reference for a broad audience.
