Book Mathematical Modelling for Polymer Processing

Download or read book Mathematical Modelling for Polymer Processing written by Vincenzo Capasso and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymers are substances made of macromolecules formed by thousands of atoms organized in one (homopolymers) or more (copolymers) groups that repeat themselves to form linear or branched chains, or lattice structures. The concept of polymer traces back to the years 1920's and is one of the most significant ideas of last century. It has given great impulse to indus try but also to fundamental research, including life sciences. Macromolecules are made of sm all molecules known as monomers. The process that brings monomers into polymers is known as polymerization. A fundamental contri bution to the industrial production of polymers, particularly polypropylene and polyethylene, is due to the Nobel prize winners Giulio Natta and Karl Ziegler. The ideas of Ziegler and Natta date back to 1954, and the process has been improved continuously over the years, particularly concerning the design and shaping of the catalysts. Chapter 1 (due to A. Fasano ) is devoted to a review of some results concerning the modelling of the Ziegler- Natta polymerization. The specific ex am pie is the production of polypropilene. The process is extremely complex and all studies with relevant mathematical contents are fairly recent, and several problems are still open.

Book Mechanical Behavior and Heat Transfer in Polymer Fiber Melt spinning and Drawing Processes

Download or read book Mechanical Behavior and Heat Transfer in Polymer Fiber Melt spinning and Drawing Processes written by Hsien-Fu Hsiao and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the help of empirical studies, polymer fibers have been manufactured for many years without a deep investigation of the underlying physical nature of the spinning and drawing processes. As the requirements placed on polymer fibers have increased and quality control has become more important, the necessity of studying the theoretical fundamentals of polymer fiber spinning and drawing has grown. My Ph.D. research has sought to improve the modeling capability in both the spinning and drawing processes of polymer fiber manufacture.

Book Polymer Melt Processing

Download or read book Polymer Melt Processing written by Morton M. Denn and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-08-04 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the shaping in the manufacture of polymeric objects is carried out in the melt state, as it is a substantial part of the physical property development. Melt processing involves an interplay between fluid mechanics and heat transfer in rheologically complex liquids, and taken as a whole it is a nice example of the importance of coupled transport processes. This book is on the underlying foundations of polymer melt processing, which can be derived from relatively straightforward ideas in fluid mechanics and heat transfer; the level is that of an advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate course, and the material can serve as the text for a course in polymer processing or for a second course in transport processes.

Book A Review Chill Block Melt Spin Technique Theories Applications

Download or read book A Review Chill Block Melt Spin Technique Theories Applications written by Mustafa Kamal and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2013-03-15 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid Solidification Processing of molten metals and alloys has proved to be a reliable route for producing new and advanced materials. The Chill-Block Melt Spin (CBMS) technique is important because its simplicity, flexibility and perfection. High quality materials can be produced with lower costs, as compared to other routes, by refining the microstructure and trapping the nucleated (new) metastable phases. Melt-spun ribbons subsequently produced can then be consolidated to produce billets and sheets that can be used in many industries especially high-tech industries such as aerospace and racing automobiles. This book contains several perspectives about CBMS technology and should be a useful review for undergraduate and post-graduate metallurgy students.
