Book Modeling and Simulation of a Search Radar Receiver

Download or read book Modeling and Simulation of a Search Radar Receiver written by Chung-Yi Chen and published by . This book was released on 1996-09-01 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evaluation of radar performance using an actual radar is extremely costly. Such a process usually provides only samples of data under limited and difficult-to-control scenarios. In contrast, computer simulation using a validated model of the radar system provides flexible and cost effective means of testing various aspects of the system. This research represents an initial attempt to construct function-by-function validated models of radar systems for performance assessment and to produce simulation software which can accept environment data and threat scenarios and drive the radar models. Several desirable aspects of radar operations have not been included in this work but should be considered for future implementation. They are: multiple PRF capability and range-Doppler ambiguity resolution; ECCM features such as carrier frequency agility and sidelobe cancellation; and clutter map for enhanced zero velocity target detection. In this thesis, the software model of a generic search radar operating at a medium pulse repetition frequency (PRF) with Doppler filtering capability is created. A simulation program is written which takes this radar model, combines it with user defined trajectories and cross sections of targets and jammers to produce echo signals, and displays the radar output on a plane-position indicator (PPI) and separately on a range-Doppler plane.

Book Simulation of a Dynamic Aircraft Radar Signature

Download or read book Simulation of a Dynamic Aircraft Radar Signature written by Joseph J. Sacchini and published by . This book was released on 1996-06-01 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a package which simulates the dynamic radar signatures a radar receiver would expect when tracking a moving target such as an aircraft or a missile. The package consists of several MATLAB codes. The basic engagement simulated is a radar, such as seen on a fully active missile seeker, engaging a target such as an aircraft. The static scattering characteristics of the target are required as an input to the package. The package then simulates the radar-target engagement dynamics modeling the target motion and the physical target vibrations which effect the signature the radar receives. The outputs of the package are the scattered electric field, the Doppler shift, and the angular tracking error, or glint, all as seen by the radar. This package is meant to aid a hardware-in-the-loop simulation of a radar-target engagement.

Book An Object Oriented Model for a Radar System Simulation

Download or read book An Object Oriented Model for a Radar System Simulation written by State University of New York at Buffalo. Dept. of Computer Science and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "This paper describes an object oriented model for simulation of a radar system and its environment. The input to the system is a set of radar, target and environmental specifications, and the output is a synthesized IF (Intermediate Frequency) signal similar to the one output after the IF amplifier stage of a radar. The model simulates the radar system using separate Radar, Environmental, and Target modules. In the Radar module the transmitter and the receiver modules are isolated. The transmitter module provides signal objects to the environment. The Target and Environmental modules generate instances of the model objects specified by the user and provide them to the environment. These object instances interact with the signal objects, and at the end of a sampling period backscattered signal objects are sampled by the receiver module. The system is designed for the maximum flexibility and for incremental improvement. Thus various radar systems and environmental settings can be simulated by changing the parameters of the associated modules. Many existing models for targets and specific environmental conditions can be incorporated into our model."

Book Electronically Scanned Arrays MATLAB Modeling and Simulation

Download or read book Electronically Scanned Arrays MATLAB Modeling and Simulation written by Arik D. Brown and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "[Contains] more lengthy mathematical derivations than most {comparable books] ... for arrays, provides for a unique, stand-alone mathematical description that can be adopted by anyone trying to communicate the theoretical foundation for their array design...has insights from a practitioner that are unique. The MATLAB® scripts alone are worth the price." —Daniel C. Ross, Ph. D, Northrop Grumman Corporation Electronically Scanned Arrays: MATLAB® Modeling and Simulation is considered the first book to provide comprehensive modeling/simulation programs used to design and analyze Electronically Scanned Arrays (ESA), a key technology internationally in the scientific and engineering communities. Several books have been written about ESAs, but most cover only fundamental theory. Few, if any, provide the insightful, easy-to-use simulation tools found in this book. Obviously, MATLAB® is one of the greatest tools available for exploring and understanding science and engineering concepts, and we use MATLAB functions to easily and instantly calculate ESA patterns. However, to achieve a truly insightful and in-depth analysis of subarray architectures, conformal arrays, etc., it is imperative that users first develop a firm grasp of ESA fundamentals. Covers largely unexplored topics, such as reliability aspects and the application of ESAs in space This volume helps readers build that elemental understanding of how ESAs work. It also provides code to run as an aid, so that readers don’t have to start from scratch. The book expands on ESA principles and provides a modeling framework, using MATLAB to model applications of ESAs (i.e. pattern optimization, space-based applications, and reliability analysis). Presented code serves as an excellent vehicle to help readers master the analysis and simulation of ESAs. Exploring how difficult problems can be simplified with short, elegant solutions, this is an invaluable resource for students and others new to ESAs, as well as experienced practicing engineers who model ESAs at the systems level.
