Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Free-piston engines are under investigation by a number of research groups worldwide due to their potential advantages in terms of fuel efficiency and engine emissions. Some prototypes have emerged, mainly aimed for vehicle propulsion, and have reported favourable performance compared to conventional technology. This paper describes the design of a four stroke free piston diesel engine. The simulation is described, and extensive simulation results are presented, giving insight into engine operating characteristics and performance. The operating characteristics of the free-piston engine was found to differ significantly from those of conventional engines, giving potential advantages in terms of fuel efficiency and emissions formation due to fast power stroke expansion.

Book Intelligent Robotics and Applications

Download or read book Intelligent Robotics and Applications written by Honghai Liu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-11-10 with total page 785 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The market demand for skills, knowledge and adaptability have positioned robotics to be an important field in both engineering and science. One of the most highly visible applications of robotics has been the robotic automation of many industrial tasks in factories. In the future, a new era will come in which we will see a greater success for robotics in non-industrial environments. In order to anticipate a wider deployment of intelligent and autonomous robots for tasks such as manufacturing, healthcare, ent- tainment, search and rescue, surveillance, exploration, and security missions, it is essential to push the frontier of robotics into a new dimension, one in which motion and intelligence play equally important roles. The 2010 International Conference on Intelligent Robotics and Applications (ICIRA 2010) was held in Shanghai, China, November 10–12, 2010. The theme of the c- ference was “Robotics Harmonizing Life,” a theme that reflects the ever-growing interest in research, development and applications in the dynamic and exciting areas of intelligent robotics. These volumes of Springer’s Lecture Notes in Artificial Intel- gence and Lecture Notes in Computer Science contain 140 high-quality papers, which were selected at least for the papers in general sessions, with a 62% acceptance rate Traditionally, ICIRA 2010 holds a series of plenary talks, and we were fortunate to have two such keynote speakers who shared their expertise with us in diverse topic areas spanning the rang of intelligent robotics and application activities.

Book Simulation of Electromechanical Valve Drive on Single Cylinder Four Stroke Free Piston Diesel Engine

Download or read book Simulation of Electromechanical Valve Drive on Single Cylinder Four Stroke Free Piston Diesel Engine written by Fyroz Ziffa Mohd Mustafa Kamal and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In conventional internal combustion engines, the camshaft is an apparatus often used in piston engines to operate the valves. The camshaft is connected to the crankshaft. The relationship between the rotation of the camshaft and the rotation of the crankshaft is of critically importance. Since the valves control the flow of air and fuel mixture intake and exhaust gases, they must be opened and closed at the appropriate time during the stroke of the piston. In the free piston engine, there is no crankshaft. So, the electromechanical valve drive (EMVD) will take the part in make the valve moving as usual. In this project, the model of EMVD will be developed in 3D CAD software.

Book Hybrid Computer Study of a Free Piston Engine with a Hydraulic Pump

Download or read book Hybrid Computer Study of a Free Piston Engine with a Hydraulic Pump written by F. Rueter and published by 1970.. This book was released on 1970 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A hybrid computer simulation of a hydraulic pumping engine, consisting of a free piston engine coupled pneumatically to a hydraulic pump, is developed and described. The simulation is used to investigate the operation and performance of the engine and its properties, to develop the engine to an optimum configuration, and to predict the effects of various design assumptions on engine performance. Book Advances in Internal Combustion Engine Research

Download or read book Advances in Internal Combustion Engine Research written by Dhananjay Kumar Srivastava and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-29 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses all aspects of advanced engine technologies, and describes the role of alternative fuels and solution-based modeling studies in meeting the increasingly higher standards of the automotive industry. By promoting research into more efficient and environment-friendly combustion technologies, it helps enable researchers to develop higher-power engines with lower fuel consumption, emissions, and noise levels. Over the course of 12 chapters, it covers research in areas such as homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) combustion and control strategies, the use of alternative fuels and additives in combination with new combustion technology and novel approaches to recover the pumping loss in the spark ignition engine. The book will serve as a valuable resource for academic researchers and professional automotive engineers alike.

Book An Application of the Free piston Principle to Steam Powered Air Compression

Download or read book An Application of the Free piston Principle to Steam Powered Air Compression written by Richard T. Harper and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study investigated how the basic principle and methods of analysis of the conventional diesel free-piston engine could be applied to steam powered air compression. A number of possible engine design configurations were discussed to meet the specific requirements of the energy conversion unit of a closed-loop pheumatic servo control system. A mechanically simple, self-contained design configuration was chosen and analyzed in detail. The equations of motion were developed for the piston assembly of the selected design configuration. The solution of these equations was demonstrated by means of an analog computer simulation. A laboratory model was fabricated to provide experimental data for comparison with the theory and all differences between this model and the mathematical model were defined. The steam powered free-piston engine was found to have significant potential and warrants further research and development in this area. (Author).
